Chapter 82: Preparations
True to her words, Elara immediately went into action before the day even ended.
The moment Lionel left the study room, several servants replaced him. Elara basically called for everyone.
"Summon the estate staff immediately."
"I want you to prepare invitation letters."
"We’ll need fresh flowers brought from the capital."
"And contact the royal chefs as well."
The entire Exelio estate instantly became chaotic because of her numerous orders. They haven’t seen their lady as enthusiastic as this one, so everyone was eager to follow her orders.
When everyone heard that, they would throw a ball in 5 days, they became skeptical.
"F-Five days?"
"That’s far too short..."
"We still need decorations, musicians, food preparations, invitations..."
Even the head maid looked slightly troubled for a moment after hearing the plans. After all, organizing a noble ball normally took weeks of preparation, especially for one hosted by the Exelio family.
However, Elara simply looked at everyone calmly.
"Then hire more people," she answered without hesitation.
The servants immediately fell silent at that.
"We have enough wealth for it," Elara continued firmly. "If the estate staff alone cannot finish everything in time, then bring in additional workers from the capital."
"I want this celebration prepared properly for my son."
"Yes, Your Highness!"
With it, the servants immediately rushed in different directions afterward. Some began preparing invitation letters while others started organizing decorations, flower deliveries, musicians, and banquet arrangements.
Additional workers were quickly hired from nearby towns and even from the capital itself. Tailors, chefs, florists, and servants continuously entered and left the estate throughout the entire day.
Because of the ball, the once peaceful Exelio estate was not transformed into complete chaos.
Meanwhile, while everything is happening, Lionel could only stare speechlessly at the situation unfolding around him.
Mother is really serious about this...
Within just a day and a half, their household was able to send out invitation letters to nearly every major noble house across the Empire. And despite the extremely short notice about it, almost nobody dared reject the invitation.
After all, this was not just an ordinary noble gathering. It was a celebration personally hosted by Duchess Elara Exelio herself. And on top of that, she was also the Empire’s only princess.
Missing her invitation would practically be the same as offending the imperial family directly. Because of that, countless nobles immediately began changing their schedules after receiving the invitation.
The tailors around the empire also became busy with all the noblewomen rushing to prepare new dresses after receiving the invitation. The impact of the ball was so huge that within a single day, it became one of the most talked-about topics among the Empire’s high society.
Inside the Exelio estate, the preparations only became busier as the days passed by. Servants continuously moved around the hallways while carrying boxes of fabrics, flower arrangements, and trays filled with samples for the banquet.
The large ballroom inside the mansion was already being completely redecorated. At the same time, fresh flowers from the capital arrived every morning to fill the whole space.
Large crystal chandeliers were cleaned carefully until they sparkled brightly once again. Expensive carpets were rolled across the ballroom floors while musicians repeatedly practiced near the hall under strict supervision.
Meanwhile, the estate’s kitchens had become a complete chaos on their own. With countless chefs hired, it was like a battlefield. Because everyone was skilled, they continuously argued over ingredients and what to put in menus.
Because of that, dozens of kitchen workers had no choice but to prepare food from morning until midnight.
"The sauce is too salty!"
"We should do beef instead of pork." freewebnøvel.com
"I told you, the cream sauce is better!"
The entire estate had practically lost its peaceful atmosphere since then. And in the middle of all that chaos, Lionel also could not escape it.
"Young Master, please stand still."
Lionel silently stood inside one of the fitting rooms while several tailors surrounded him from every direction. He remembered Rylan and Eiden in the same position as him.
One tailor carefully measured his shoulders while another adjusted the sleeves of a formal coat against his body.
"This color suits Young Master better."
"No, the silver embroidery should be placed here instead."
"We should prepare at least three outfits just in case."
Lionel could already feel a headache forming in his head while listening to all of them. Karma really got him.
"I only need one," he tried telling them. However, nobody listened to him.
"This is a celebration ball hosted by Her Highness, my lord," one tailor answered seriously while continuing to pin measurements onto the fabric. "Everything must be perfect."
Another servant walked forward while holding several expensive fabrics for him to choose from. Meanwhile, Elara was sitting nearby while observing everything proudly.
"No, no. The darker one looks more elegant on him," she commented while staring at Lionel thoughtfully.
"Mother..." he sighed helplessly.
But Elara completely ignored the exhaustion in his voice.
"We still need to prepare your accessories as well," she continued seriously. "And perhaps a new cape too."
Lionel silently looked toward the ceiling afterward.
At this point, enduring Imperial Army training suddenly sounded easier than surviving his mother’s preparations for this ball.
"The white embroidery is too plain."
"Yes, Your Highness!"
"And make the inner layer cleaner around the neckline."
"Understood!"
Lionel could only stand there helplessly while the tailors hurried around him again. But despite everything, Lionel still allowed them to continue.
After all, he knew his mother’s sentiments, and honestly, he understood that resisting at this point was completely meaningless.
And just like that, the entire Exelio estate spent the next few days in complete chaos. From morning until late at night, servants continuously rushed around the mansion without any rest.
They didn’t just decorate the inside, but also the outside. Five days seemed impossible for everyone. Even Lionel found it difficult to believe how quickly his mother managed to prepare everything.
As expected of Mother... Lionel complimented.
And then finally, the day of the celebration arrived.
