Chapter 311: Proof

"You want proof?!" Wei Ru sighed heavily in exasperation while looking around at the dozens of eyes that were staring at her.

Even though she was a skilled talisman master, there were still many cultivators here who were much more skilled and respectable than she was.

Therefore, sensing all the gazes directed towards her, she couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable, yet she knew this was also a situation she had no way of escaping from.

’Just what kind of proof can we even provide? Does this guy have a screw loose or what?’ Yi Chen thought with a subtle frown.

A similar thought was also going through Wei Ru’s mind, but compared to Yi Chen, her thinking speed was much faster, and just a second later, she exclaimed with a firm expression.

"You want proof? Fine! I’ll show you the proof!" she exclaimed while glaring at Han Fu, and the very next instant turned towards Yi Chen.

Hearing Wei Ru’s claim, Yi Chen couldn’t help but glance at Wei Ru in surprise.

Just then, he felt her hands grab his head from behind, and the next instant, a cold sensation enveloped his lips.

"!!!"

Sensing Wei Ru’s lips on his, Yi Chen’s eyes widened, and the first instinct that came to his mind was to push her away.

However, from the periphery of his vision, he could sense the prying eyes of not only all the guests but also the emperor and Cao Li that were fixed on their figures.

If any doubt regarding his identity were to arise, if he didn’t cooperate right now, then he would definitely be kicked out of the ceremony and lose the best chance he had to be in close proximity to Cao Li.

Not wanting to fail the mission, he decided to bite the bullet and reciprocate the kiss, making the entire banquet hall fall silent as they watched the scene play out before their eyes.

A couple of seconds later, their lips finally separated.

With a red hue apparent on her face, Wei Ru pulled back her head and, not meeting Yi Chen’s eyes, turned towards Han Fu.

Her expression turned frigid the very next moment, "Are you satisfied now? Or do you want us to take you to our bedroom as well?"

"T-This...N-No..."

Pain-filled tears trickled down Han Fu’s face as a tormenting pain struck his heart. Losing strength in his legs, he fell on his knees with a loud thud.

"This can’t be! Just how could you do that to me?!! Wei Ru-"

Before he could continue further, Wei Ru pointed towards the nearby servers and said, "What are you waiting for? Take him out of this place lest he further spoils the occasion with his nonsense."

The servers immediately responded to Wei Ru’s instructions and, grabbing Han Fu by his shoulders, started dragging him out.

"S-Stop! She’s lying!... Wei Ru...say that you’re lying, please! Wei Ru!!!"

Han Fu’s wailing figure was soon dragged out of the hall as his pain-filled roars soon got submerged by the sound of music that began the very next second.

Seeing that the situation had been resolved, the tight furrow on Cao Li’s forehead loosened considerably. However, annoyance was still evident on her face as she glared, not at Wei Ru and Yi Chen but at the emperor.

Gesturing him towards her, she muttered something in the emperor’s ears, causing his expression to stiffen. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

A second later, he nodded with a subtly darkened expression and tilted his head, his face recovering its usual expression.

Meanwhile, all the other guests in the room continued socialising with each other. However, if one were to look carefully, one would observe that they had all deliberately distanced themselves from Yi Chen and Wei Ru’s figures.

It was apparent that they had no intention of even accidentally being associated with the two of them and had deliberately kept their distance.

Clearly observing the mood around him and also wanting to give a piece of his mind to Wei Ru, Yi Chen pointed towards the exit and said, "Let’s grab some air."

Wei Ru nodded the next moment, and the two of them soon walked out of the hall side by side, still pretending as if they were a couple.

It was only after they had walked several steps ahead and were now almost at the courtyard that Yi Chen stopped and, while leaning his elbow on the pillar beside him, sighed exasperatedly.

"Why did you do that? Just why?" he asked while turning his head to glare at Wei Ru.

Seeing the blame evident in his eyes, Wei Ru pursed her lips and said, "It was the only way I could think of at that moment... If I were unable to give any proof, then I feared that Young Master Chen would be forced out of the banquet. So please try to understand..."

’I fucking got molested by an old hag just now, and you want me to understand?’ Yi Chen thought while gritting his teeth and exclaimed, "Wasn’t there any other way? You could have just made up any other lie like you’ve been doing so many times!"

The previous polite tone was no longer in his voice as he continued, "You did that despite knowing that I’m a married man, didn’t you? Didn’t you feel even the slightest hint of guilt while doing that?

You say that you did it for me, but I beg to differ! You clearly did that to ensure that that guy was completely heartbroken and stopped chasing after you any longer...isn’t that right, Madam Wei?"

Yi Chen asked with a glare.

"Young Master Chen..." Wei Ru took a breath to clear her head and said, "I won’t lie that my selfish interest wasn’t involved in my decision...however, as I’ve said before, I was unable to think of any other way at that time and was forced to resort to that in order to avoid suspicions.

You might have also realised that everyone’s eyes, including those of the emperor and Madam Cao Li, were directed straight at us...If our lie was to be caught, then the end result would have been something neither of us would like to know."

Hearing her not being apologetic about her actions, Yi Chen could only clench his jaw in frustration, as what she had said was indeed the truth.

At that time, even he had no clue how to get out of that quagmire, so Wei Ru’s actions, even though unacceptable according to him, did end up helping him in the end.

Seeing the frustration evident on Yi Chen’s face, Wei Ru continued, "But still...I apologise for my actions. Even after knowing that you’re married, I was forced to take that decision and kiss you.

However, at the last moment, I did make sure to coat my lips with a subtle layer of Qi to ensure that our lips never actually made any contact...though we were still in close proximity with each other, that was something that couldn’t be helped."

"Wait...you did what?" Yi Chen, who was seething in irritation, felt as if he had been suddenly hit by a jolt the moment he heard Wei Ru’s words.

"I coated my lips with my Qi...wait, you didn’t realise? I thought it would be obvious..." Wei Ru couldn’t help but furrow her eyes when she noticed Yi Chen’s changing expression.

’...So that’s why there was a cold sensation all over my lips...’ Yi Chen widened his eyes in realization as the frustration he had been carrying all this time began to fade and at the same time the guilt rising in his heart subdued.

Yi Chen let out a deep sigh at that very moment.

"Thank god it didn’t happen...otherwise...how would I be able to face her when we meet?" his voice softened by the end of it.

Wei Ru, who had been observing him, was clearly able to understand what he meant after listening to those words.

"Then does that mean Young Master Chen is no longer angry towards me?" she asked a second later, a curious yet playful gaze apparent in her eyes.

"Well..." Yi Chen couldn’t help but make an awkward expression as his eyes met hers, "I’m sorry, Madam Wei...I lost myself a bit there."

Wei Ru chuckled softly at those words and just waved her hands, "It’s alright, Young Master Chen. Your reaction only tells me how much you care about your wife...which in a way is a pretty admirable quality in a man..."

A bitter smile momentarily appeared on Wei Ru’s face as she said those words.

Seeing this, Yi Chen was immediately reminded of something, and he couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you do that then?"

"Do what?" Wei Ru asked in confusion.

"That man earlier...you clearly have feelings for him as well, don’t you?" Yi Chen asked matter-of-factly and continued, "...Yet you blatantly tried to push him down and reject him. A man like him would definitely care a lot about his wife as well, you know that, right?"

"This..." Wei Ru bit her lip the next second, at a loss for words.
