Chapter 19: Saga 19— A Little More About Azure Blake!

Gasps of shock and surprise alike filled the air. Magicules were drained into a wound, and still no effect was made on the cut. This was unlike anything Professor Adian had ever seen before. He tried again and again, but still the same thing—his mana was still being absorbed by the wound on the boy’s leg.

"Move, let me try!" Stillwell pushed Adian aside and decided to give it a go, but the result was the same: her mana kept on being drained, and if she wasn’t careful, she might have ended up with chronic mana knockout—a condition that happens when one uses up all their mana.

"Now that’s very interesting—"

Claire stood up from the couch and walked towards the window. A translucent miniature appeared on her left eye.

"They may have not noticed, but those claw marks must have imprinted some kind of complex on his body that causes mana to be drained. Something similar to what Sylvia does, but way more unrefined, but it seems the drained mana is being redirected though.... I can’t figure out where just yet...."

Claire just broke down the mechanism of what was happening to the boy with just one look.

The boy scrambled to his feet aggressively, his skin started to turn purple, his fingers grew into claws, and the teeth in his mouth grew sharp.

"What the hell is going on?" a student yelped.

The normal and sane thing for the students to do here was to run for their dear lives. But normal to the Renodin third-year students slightly differed.

They all took on battle positions, ready to pulverise their classmate who seemed to have lost his mind. Renodin first-year students had the capabilities of at least a D-rank hunter, while the third years had the capabilities of B-rank. So a maddened classmate wasn’t that terrifying at all.

The student council members were literally unfazed. Yuki was having a nap on the couch. Claire had withdrawn to painting her nails, Harriden was reading, and Sylvia was meditating. Kael was quite curious to see how the situation would be handled.

"Stand down, students!" Adian stretched forth a hand. A green glow erupted around the crazed student.

"Clazien."

The student completely froze in a ball-shaped jade gem. The crazed student couldn’t move an inch or make any facial expressions. He was just completely still.

’That should keep him in place until we figure out what to do next.’ Adian dusted his hands.

Stillwell ordered the students to disperse. She then placed a hand on the large jade gem, crimson mana spread around it, and then the jade started to float.

Kael turned away from the window, and the show had already ended. Just when he was about to return to his room, a letter appeared on the center table.

This caught Kael’s attention instantly. "Where did that come from?"

Sylvia’s eyes opened in annoyance. "Tsk! That goddamn guild master sure does know how to disturb people." She stood angrily and grabbed the letter. When she tore it open, a projection jumped out of the letter.

"Hello, Azure Blake. I have a new mission for you directly from—"

"Not interested." Sylvia dropped the letter on the table and walked away.

"I knew you would say that, but if you don’t accept this quest, I’ll suspend your licence and also expose your secret identities."

A short old man wearing a suit that resembled a butler continued to speak without fear.

"Hahaha, how very scary." Yuki cooed mockingly.

"It’s not like we have a choice.... That old geezer is fairly hard to kill." Claire flicked her wrist, and the letter floated to her hand, then she grabbed it.

"As perceptive as usual, Claire. The mission details will be imprinted on the letter after the end of this transmission. This time the client has increased your pay to 50 million gold coins. If you have any enquiries, you know the drill." The transmission ended.

"That slimy bastard." Harriden banged his book closed.

"Chill, he couldn’t expose our identities even if he wanted to." Claire rolled her eyes.

She carefully read the quest details—her face folded into a profound grimace.

"So it has to do with the recent disappearances around the hot springs," she muttered.

The letter was passed around, and eventually it reached Kael.

’Investigate the disappearances in the Sumbiya Highlands and put down the cause.’

[Impromptu Quest: Accompany Azure Blake on their mission]

[Time limit: None]

[Reward: Likeness (Sylvia) +50]

[Penalty for failure: Permanent erectile dysfunction]

’Really,’ Kael hissed.

He proceeded to meet with Sylvia to ask her if he could join them on their mission.

"Sure!" she replied without even looking him in the eye.

"I always wanted to ask, how did Azure Blake come about?..." Kael’s voice carried. He had always been curious as to how they all became close friends.

"It’s a long story, but I don’t mind telling you." Yuki sat upright on the couch with a rather serious facial expression.

"There’s really no need to—"

"Just allow him to." Claire hugged Sylvia from behind.

"I don’t see the reason why not," Harriden added.

Hence, everyone agreed for Yuki to share their story of how four freaks became the strongest S-rank party in all of Reinburg.

"It all began when we met at the Reinburg Grand Ball—"

The Reinburg Grand Ball was host to dignitaries from other nations and lands who were in friendly partnership with the Kingdom of Reinburg.

A few weeks after Sylvia was adopted and still finding her footing, she, along with her other siblings, went to the ball together with her father and mother. Sylvia didn’t have many friends, but she always did her best to network when necessary.

When she went into the garden to get some fresh air, she mistakenly bumped into a dark-skinned noble from the Strotan Theocracy. The young dark elf noble was dressed in a fine black suit. That made it very hard for someone to notice that he was even around—he just blended into the environment perfectly.

"I think you should watch where you are going, human," Harriden muttered.
