Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Servant Disciple
Opening the door, Yu Changsheng saw the rows of single-story houses outside and the several youths dressed in gray. Only then did he accept the fact that he had transmigrated into a Cultivation World.
This was the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, the Outer Peak of the Wanxiang Sect.
And he was one of the thousands of servant disciples here. To put it nicely, he was still an Immortal Disciple!
The original owner of this body shared his name, was sixteen years old, and had a Cultivation at the Qi Refining Second Layer. He came from the Yu Clan, a Qi Refining Clan from Bright Moon City outside the mountains.
But his talent for Cultivation was limited. He had the most common of Three Spirit Roots, which included the Wind Attribute. If he had stayed with his clan under his father’s care, he might have lived a peaceful life.
But the original owner was unwilling to accept this fate. Wanting to gain power, he had resolutely joined the Wanxiang Sect and become a servant disciple.
This Wanxiang Sect was one of the most renowned Cultivation Sects in Wuzhou.
A thousand years ago, it had been home to several Great Cultivators of the Purple Mansion, making it a Cultivation Holy Land in Wuzhou of infinite glory. After suffering several calamities, it could no longer compare to a First-class Sect today, but it was still firmly in the second tier.
Moreover, the Wanxiang Sect had a deep foundation and possessed all sorts of rare Cultivation Techniques. It had five Inheritance Peaks, attracting countless Loose Cultivators and clans who flocked to it.
As a servant disciple, the original owner only needed to reach the Qi Refining Third Layer Realm to choose a basic Cultivation Technique from one of the Inheritance Peaks. In his haste, he had made a mistake while trying to break through last night, which was what allowed him to transmigrate here.
’How tragic. He died just two days after joining the sect.’
Yu Changsheng sympathized with him in his heart.
As a Major Sect, the process for the original owner to join the Wanxiang Sect had been incredibly arduous. The world was filled with countless Cultivators with Mixed Spirit Roots, and his ability to stand out and be chosen as a servant disciple was in no small part due to his clan spending Spirit Stones to bribe the Guiding Envoy.
But who would have thought that before he could realize his ambitions, he would be replaced by someone else?
Having fused with the other’s memories, Yu Changsheng now shared his obsession with gaining power.
In this dangerous Cultivation World, only strength was everything.
Cultivate the Dao! Attain long life! Become an immortal!
’Don’t worry, I will carry on your will and protect your family!’
Yu Changsheng made a silent vow.
BANG BANG BANG!
"Get out here and work! Stop slacking! What time do you think it is?!"
Outside, the Servant Steward pounded fiercely on the door, shattering the heroic ambitions in his heart!
’I’ve transmigrated, and I still have to work? Can you believe it?’
Yu Changsheng sighed and quickly shouted, "Coming, coming!"
He came out of his house to see the Servant Steward with the Fu Manchu mustache cursing as he ordered the group of youths to work.
Servant disciples had to do a lot of chores. He, for example, had been assigned to Spirit Field number 180 on the edge of the Outer Peak. His daily tasks were to create rain, pull weeds, and drive away pests, as well as to periodically hand over the harvested Spirit Rice.
With the Magical Power of the Qi Refining Second Layer, completing all this took at least half a day, sometimes lasting into the evening. There was very little time left in a day for him to cultivate. Only by advancing to become an Outer Disciple would he have any free time.
The condition to become an Outer Disciple was also simple: after selecting a basic Cultivation Technique from one of the five Inheritance Peaks, one had to cultivate to the Qi Refining Fifth Layer and participate in the annual sect selection.
"When will these days ever end?"
A nearby servant disciple, slightly older than him, saw Yu Changsheng and the other new servants and secretly shook his head.
After the Servant Steward finished his lecture, he left on his own. The other servant disciples let out a collective sigh of relief and started chatting amongst themselves.
"Senior Brother Zhuang, how many years have you been here?" Yu Changsheng asked curiously, picking up a weeding sickle from the side of the courtyard.
The people in the courtyard had all introduced themselves yesterday. This Senior Brother Zhuang before him was a kind person who would proactively offer advice when he saw new disciples doing something wrong.
"Five years," Zhuang Yan said, looking at him with a sorrowful expression.
"I was once like you, full of hope, thinking that joining a Major Sect meant I could learn a Supreme Dao Skill, be free and unfettered, and have a bright future. But in reality, it was just jumping from one pit into another."
His world-weary words immediately caught the attention of the surrounding youths. One of them asked with a puzzled look on his face. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"But can’t we become Outer Disciples? Then we’d have time to cultivate."
Zhuang Yan glanced at the youth and said mercilessly, "Most of those who become servant disciples have Mixed Spirit Roots. And there are so many servants in the sect, plenty of whom are stronger than you. How can you possibly compete?"
"Putting aside everything else, just look at me. In five years, I’ve reached Qi Refining Fourth Layer, and I’m even practicing the Sword Control Skill. Do you think you can surpass me without some fortuitous encounter?"
Hearing this, the youths’ faces turned pale, clearly feeling the pressure.
This was not the future they had imagined.
"In the sect, servant disciples are just treated like beasts of burden. Of course, it’s not completely hopeless. If you can suck up to some Outer Disciples, your life here can be much easier. You might be able to climb up by relying on them."
"If your methods are even more clever, you could get friendly with some Inner Sect Disciples or Elders. It might even be possible to get in through the back door."
"This place, just like the secular world, requires you to curry favor with the powerful."
At this point, Zhuang Yan suddenly fell silent, his expression changing.
A swaggering, imperious servant disciple walked into the courtyard, followed by two lackeys. He carried himself as if no one else around him mattered.
"He’s here to ’borrow’ people again."
"Stay away, stay away."
Nearby, a few servants who recognized the man quickly lowered their heads.
"Senior Brother Zhuang, who is that?" Yu Changsheng asked curiously, standing next to him and noticing everyone’s fearful expressions.
Zhuang Yan whispered cautiously, "That’s Huang Li from the next courtyard. He’s on duty at the Spirit Chicken Garden. Relying on the fact that his older brother is a genius in the Outer Sect of Sword Control Peak, he acts like a tyrant. He can’t stand seeing anyone better than him and often comes to other courtyards to ’borrow’ people to help him feed the Spirit Chickens. If you refuse, you’ll be dragged out and beaten."
"And that job of feeding Spirit Chickens is much harder than tending to our Spirit Fields. Every single one of them is at the Tier One Middle Stage, comparable to a cultivator at Qi Refining Fifth Layer. They’re also picky eaters with bad tempers. If they’re the slightest bit unhappy with their Spirit Rice, they’ll whip you with their wings. Those wings are like iron! Getting hit by one would, at the very least, break some bones!"
"I was bullied by him during my first two years here, too. If you see him outside, stay far away and don’t make eye contact."
As he spoke, Huang Li finished scanning the courtyard and his gaze locked directly with Yu Changsheng’s. He immediately frowned.
The other disciples had all lowered their heads in fear when they saw him, but this youth alone did not. Heh, and he was quite handsome, too.
This stirred feelings of jealousy and displeasure in his heart. He walked towards Yu Changsheng and shouted, "You’re a new servant disciple, too? Perfect. Come with me and help me feed the chickens!"
"If you do a good job, this young master will reward you handsomely!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Huang Li’s two lackeys chuckled and moved to flank Yu Changsheng, cornering him in a way that left no room for refusal.
Yu Changsheng never would have thought that he would be targeted just for looking at the guy for a second too long.
Meanwhile, Zhuang Yan, who had just been whispering to him, had already silently retreated into the distance. He picked up his sickle along with the other servant disciples, pretending he didn’t know him.
"Senior Brother Huang, I still have a Spirit Field to tend to..." Yu Changsheng forced a troubled smile and tried to walk past him.
But Huang Li wasn’t about to let him go so easily. With a flick of his eyes, his two lackeys grabbed Yu Changsheng by the shoulders.
"Hehehe, how long does it take to feed some chickens? It’ll be quick. You can take your time tending to your Spirit Field after you’re done!"
"Let’s go!"
Huang Li smirked, then waved his hand, leading his lackeys and Yu Changsheng out of the courtyard.
Even though Yu Changsheng shouted and struggled, no one was willing to help him. The moment he tried to use his Magical Power to resist, he was punched in the stomach, unable to even cast a single Fireball Skill.
"How pitiful. Do you think he’ll even make it back?"
"He’ll probably come back, but who knows if he’ll be on his feet. Few who go to feed the Spirit Chickens return unscathed." freewёbnoνel.com
"It’s Yu Changsheng’s own fault for being new and not knowing the rules. What’s the point of being so handsome anyway?"
"Don’t you guys make the same mistake. When you see someone stronger than you, you must lower your head, you hear?"
"Alright, stop with the snide remarks. Hurry up and get to work!"
Zhuang Yan, genuinely annoyed with the gloating servant disciples, couldn’t help but shout.
Soon, the servants in the courtyard dispersed, each going off to do their own tasks.
Meanwhile, Yu Changsheng was led down the mountain, racking his brain for a chance to escape.
But there was no chance...
Qi Refining Second Layer was, in reality, only slightly stronger than a Mortal Martial Artist. His Magical Power was limited, and he didn’t know any profound Magic. The three people with him were all at least as strong as he was.
Especially the leader, Huang Li, who was already at Qi Refining Fourth Layer. If he angered him, he was afraid it wouldn’t be as simple as just taking a punch.
Thinking of this, Yu Changsheng became much more obedient and walked behind Huang Li, not daring to make any rash moves.
The Spirit Chicken Garden was located in a valley on the Wanxiang Sect’s Beast Taming Peak. It took them about the time it takes for two incense sticks to burn to get there. The exterior was protected by a small Array to prevent chicken thieves from visiting.
Huang Li took out an Array Wooden Token, swiped it, and strode in triumphantly. The other three followed close behind.
This chicken-feeding job was something his older brother, Huang Suyu, had pulled strings to get for him. It paid three hundred Spirit Coins a month, and if he did well, he could even get Qi Blood Pills and Spirit Enhancement Pills.
That was why he could look down on all the other servants!
Huang Li called for a servant to bring a small bag of Spirit Rice from a wooden hut. He then grabbed a small basin from the side and shouted at Yu Changsheng.
"Take this and go in to feed them. Give each Spirit Chicken about 20 grains of Spirit Rice. Remember not to feed them too much. These Spirit Chickens are not easy to serve. If they see you treating them differently, they’ll get jealous and cause trouble!"
"Don’t blame me for not warning you. The weakest of these Spirit Chickens are at Tier One Third Layer, and their wings are as hard as iron. If you don’t feed them properly and get sent flying, you’ll be bedridden for at least a few days!"
Yu Changsheng took the basin, his eyes wide as saucers. It wasn’t because he was scared by the mighty and ferocious Spirit Chickens in the enclosure, but because symbols had appeared above their heads. A closer look revealed lines of data.
