Chapter 417: Chapter 301: The World Is Not a Peaceful Place; With Grain in Hand, One Doesn’t Panic

Eating watermelon is both refreshing and cooling. On a scorching summer day, a bite of chilled watermelon after a meal is the perfect way to aid digestion and send a wave of cool relief through your entire body.

In the living room, Lin Li and Su Yue, having just finished lunch, were sitting on the sofa eating chilled watermelon.

"CHOMP, CHOMP, CHOMP..."

Lin Li picked up a large slice of watermelon and took huge bites. In just a few moments, he had finished the entire piece.

Su Yue spat a seed into the trash can. Watching Lin Li grab another big slice from the fruit bowl, she said, "Lin Li, you don’t spit out the seeds when you eat watermelon?!?"

"Spit out the seeds? What a pain! It’s not like they’re bad for you, and they’ll be out by tomorrow anyway..." Lin Li answered casually.

Then, he took huge bites of the watermelon in his hand, swallowing the seeds along with the flesh.

"..." Su Yue was left speechless by his reply. She rolled her eyes at him and said with disgust, "Could you please not say things like that while we’re eating? It’s ruining my appetite..."

"Mhm, mhm." Mumbling through a mouthful of watermelon, Lin Li clearly hadn’t paid any attention to what Su Yue had said.

Seeing Lin Li’s mumbled response, Su Yue could only shake her head helplessly. She went back to her own slice, taking a bite, spitting out a seed, and eating at a slow, unhurried pace.

"Phew..." After eating three large slices in a row, Lin Li let out a long breath and stopped eating.

’I was already pretty full from the barbecue earlier. Three big slices of watermelon on top of that is pretty much my limit. If I eat any more, my stomach will feel uncomfortably bloated.’

He went to the bathroom to wash his hands. When he came out, he said to Su Yue, who still hadn’t finished her first slice, "I’m heading home."

Su Yue was spitting a seed into the trash can when Lin Li came out of the bathroom and announced he was leaving. She quickly looked up at him and said, "Let’s play some games for a bit before you go!"

"Alright. Then hurry up and eat. We can play a few rounds, then I’m going home for a nap." Lin Li nodded, sat down on the sofa next to Su Yue, picked up the remote, and changed the channel.

...

「At 1:30 PM」

Lin Li left Su Yue’s apartment and started walking toward his own residential complex.

Normally, it would be scorching hot outside in the mid-afternoon. But thanks to the artificial rain this morning, the temperature on the streets was manageable, thirty-four or thirty-five degrees at most.

An occasional breeze blew against him. Although the wind was still warm, it was much cooler compared to the temperatures of the past few days.

「About ten minutes later」

Lin Li arrived back at his own home.

He walked over to the cabinet-style air conditioner in the living room, took the Refrigeration Spiritual Artifact out from the Mysterious Small Island, and after activating it, placed it on top of the AC unit.

"WHOOSH..."

The surrounding temperature dropped rapidly. In just a moment, the living room became chilly.

Lin Li lay down on the living room sofa and groggily drifted off to sleep.

「At 3:00 PM」

Having napped for over an hour, Lin Li slowly opened his eyes. He grabbed his phone from the coffee table and checked the time.

’It’s still early. There’s still a long while until dinner.’

After that short nap, Lin Li felt full of energy. He wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep even if he tried. After a moment’s thought, he decided to make a trip to Dongwu City in the Spirit Realm before dinner.

"I’ve sold all the pearls I had on hand. I should head to Dongwu City and restock for future trades..." Lin Li muttered to himself. With a thought, he vanished from the sofa where he lay.

"WHOOSH..."

The Refrigeration Spiritual Artifact, which he had forgotten to turn off, continued to operate, maintaining a pleasant, cool temperature in the living room.

...

In the vast, boundless Spirit Realm, within the borders of the nation known as the Chu Kingdom, lay Dongwu City, near the frontier. In a deserted alley there, a man wearing a gray linen shirt and sunglasses appeared out of thin air.

It was an overcast day in Dongwu City. The scorching sun, usually much larger than the one on Blue Star, was hidden behind a thick layer of clouds.

"WHOOSH..."

A strong gust of wind swept into the alley, making Lin Li’s clothes flap loudly. Compared to the wind on the streets of Rongcheng back on Blue Star, this breeze in Dongwu City was quite cool.

Lin Li took off his sunglasses and stored them away on the Mysterious Small Island. He muttered to himself as he walked out of the alley.

"That black, arched Stone Gate on the Mysterious Small Island... every time it activates to send me to the Spirit Realm, it emits a golden light so bright it could blind someone. It’s a bit annoying! If only I could adjust its brightness."

After leaving the alley, Lin Li went to the side of the road to see if there were any empty carriages passing by.

He planned to hail an empty carriage and head to the tavern that sold raw oysters.

’I could walk to the tavern, but it’s a pretty long way from here. It would take quite a while.’

’Running would be faster, of course, but showing up to a business meeting drenched in sweat isn’t a good look.’

While waiting for a carriage by the roadside, Lin Li noticed some puddles on the street. He looked up at the gloomy sky; it seemed Dongwu City in the Spirit Realm had also had a downpour not long ago.

All in all, Dongwu City was currently much cooler than Rongcheng. Both cities had recently experienced a heavy rain, but the outdoor temperature in Rongcheng was now thirty-four or thirty-five degrees, while in Dongwu City it was thirty degrees at most.

A brand-new horse-drawn carriage approached from the distance. The driver saw a person on the roadside waving at him. Knowing he had a customer, he immediately steered the carriage over and stopped in front of him.
