Chapter 400: Chapter 293: Oh, Humans! If You Don’t Court Death, You Won’t Die

Lin Li picked up his pace and plunged into a patch of dense grass. His body collided with the overgrown weeds, creating a RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE sound.

"Haa..."

’Almost there.’

The long sprint had left him a bit tired. Slightly out of breath, Lin Li emerged from the grass and saw a cell phone tower in the distance. He knew he wasn’t far from the safe zone now.

A few minutes later, the safe zone came into view. He also spotted a razor wire fence that had been set up along its perimeter.

’What’s going on? How did such a long razor wire fence appear so suddenly?’

Lin Li looked at the razor wire fence lining the safe zone in the distance and gradually slowed his pace.

He had driven his van here this morning and hadn’t seen this fence along the road.

Now, looking along the fence, it stretched far into the distance, as far as the eye could see.

’To think they fenced off the entire edge of the South District’s safe zone, right up to the wilderness, in just a single day. The construction crew that installed this razor wire is incredibly efficient!’

AWOO...

A beast’s roar came from near the safe zone.

As Lin Li stared at the safe zone, separated from him by the razor wire fence, he heard the beast’s roar in the distance and immediately looked toward the sound.

The distance was too great to see clearly, so with a thought, he retrieved a pair of binoculars from the Mysterious Small Island.

Through the binoculars, Lin Li saw about ten construction workers in work clothes inside the safe zone. They were in a standoff with eight all-gray wolves on the other side of the razor wire fence.

’These construction workers dare to face off against those gray wolves. It seems they aren’t Mutant Beasts. Otherwise, these ordinary people would have been done for long ago.’

Lin Li observed the situation in the distance for a moment through his binoculars.

Then, he returned the binoculars to the Mysterious Small Island and ran quickly toward the site of the human-beast standoff.

...

A middle-aged man with a cigarette dangling from his mouth stood behind his workers. He glared at the gray wolves outside the razor wire fence. Their refusal to leave was seriously preventing his crew from finishing the final reinforcements on the fence.

"These damn gray wolves, why won’t they just scram! Xiaoli, Xiaowang, you two, go get some stones, quickly..."

"Okay, Boss." The two young construction workers replied immediately upon hearing their boss’s order. They turned and ran back to the roadside, where they gathered a large pile of Little Stones.

A moment later, Xiaoli and Xiaowang returned to their colleagues, their arms full of Little Stones.

"Give ’em hell! Show these things what we’re made of." The middle-aged man, the boss, took a few steps forward and grabbed a Little Stone from Xiaoli’s arms.

As he hurled the Little Stone in his hand at the gray wolves outside the fence, he called for his employees to follow his lead and deal with the troublemaking animals.

Thanks to the protection of the razor wire fence, the construction crew wasn’t worried the gray wolves could harm them. Otherwise, they would have fled long ago.

Hearing their boss call on them to attack the gray wolves with Little Stones, everyone immediately followed suit. They each grabbed Little Stones from the supply held by their colleagues, Xiaowang and Xiaoli, and started pelting the gray wolves outside the fence.

The dense barrage of Little Stones caught the eight lingering gray wolves completely off guard. Nearly every wolf was hit by at least one or two of them.

AWOO.

AWOO.

AWOO...

These gray wolves were just ordinary wild animals. After being hit by the Little Stones, they howled in pain.

Some of the slower-reacting gray wolves were hit so hard their heads were split open and bleeding, a truly miserable sight.
