The outdoor temperature in Rongcheng today was scorching—it felt even hotter than the forty degrees the weather forecast had predicted.
Su Yue emerged from the building like a nimble kitten, darting out of the scorching sun and into the shade of the trees lining the road, then headed for the community entrance.
The security guards at the entrance of the Happiness Garden District weren’t on duty outdoors today. Instead, they stayed inside the security office, which was filled with air conditioning.
It was understandable, of course. In this weather, anyone on duty outside would probably get heatstroke and collapse after just ten or twenty minutes under the blazing sun.
The guards on duty today were two young men, who were busy staring down at their phones and playing games inside the security office.
Suddenly, one of them spotted a graceful figure walking out from within the district and immediately nudged his colleague with his elbow.
"What’s that for?" the nudged guard asked in confusion.
"Quick, look! It’s Teacher Su."
"Where? Where’s Teacher Su?"
"Over there."
Su Yue was wearing a loose white T-shirt, but it did little to hide her curvaceous figure. That, combined with her radiant beauty and elegant temperament, left the two young men in the security office staring dumbfounded.
As Su Yue emerged from the shade and passed by the district entrance, she noticed the two young men in the security office watching her. She gave the two guards a polite nod before leaving the district.
"Teacher Su smiled at us."
"Yeah! She’s so beautiful when she smiles."
"She’s beautiful even when she isn’t smiling."
"Yeah."
After leaving the district and walking a short way, Su Yue immediately spotted a luxury sedan parked across the street.
Li Ke was sitting in the car, enjoying the air conditioning, when he saw a familiar figure appear across the street.
He picked up a small rosewood box from the passenger seat. The box itself was clearly expensive, suggesting that whatever it held was even more precious.

Li Ke opened the car door and got out. Looking at Su Yue as she approached, he said with a smile,
"Miss, it’s so hot out. You didn’t have to come all the way out here..."
"Mr. Li, you came all this way just to deliver something for me. I’m already embarrassed enough; how could I possibly trouble you to bring it all the way to my doorstep?" Su Yue said with a smile.
Li Ke looked at the young woman before him, a girl he had watched grow up to become more and more beautiful. He handed her the rosewood box, his face full of fatherly affection, and said,
"What’s with all the formality with your Uncle Li? You’re making us sound like strangers. Don’t you ever worry about ’troubling’ your uncle."
"If you need me to bring any other Spiritual Artifacts from the house in the future, just give me a call. I’ll clear it with the Master and Madam afterward."
As Su Chen’s confidant, Li Ke was the only person besides Su Chen’s immediate family who had unrestricted access to the underground vault where Su Chen kept his many valuable collectibles.
"Okay." Su Yue smiled and nodded at his words.
’But even though Mr. Li said that, I won’t actually do it,’ she thought. ’Those are all collectibles Dad spent his money on. It’s better to ask him first.’
"Well, Miss, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back," Li Ke said.
"Drive safe, Mr. Li," Su Yue said.
"I will."
VROOOM...
The luxury car started up and headed for the intersection ahead, quickly disappearing from Su Yue’s view.
Holding the rosewood box, Su Yue crossed the street and headed back toward the district entrance.
A few moments later, Su Yue was back in her cool, air-conditioned home.
"Phew..."
"Finally home."
Even though she had only been outside for a little while, Su Yue was starkly reminded of just how inhospitable the weather was.
She sat down on the living room sofa, reached for the cool water on the coffee table, and took a large gulp before setting the rosewood box on her lap.
SNAP.
She opened the rosewood box. Inside, an exquisitely crafted Spiritual Artifact lay quietly on the lining.
Closing the lid, Su Yue picked up her phone and called Lin Li.
RING... RING... RING...
Far away, in the wilderness of the South District Suburbs, Lin Li was sitting under a large, leafy tree when he suddenly heard the phone in his pocket ring.
He pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen. A familiar name was on the caller ID.
He also noticed the spotty signal bars on the screen and thought to himself,
’If I’d gone any deeper into the wilds, my phone wouldn’t be able to get a signal from the tower, and this call from Su Yue wouldn’t have come through.’
"Hey, what’s up?" Lin Li asked, answering the call.
"I have something very interesting in my hands right now. Want to see it?" Su Yue said, her voice full of mock mystery.
’This woman... Even if I wanted to see it, it’s not like I can just pop over to your place right now...!’
Out in the wilderness, Lin Li glanced around. All he could see in any direction were rolling hills and lush, green trees and plants.
"Not interested."
"..." Holding the rosewood box, a wide smile on her face, Su Yue hadn’t expected him to answer like that. Her smile froze for a few seconds before she switched to a soft, alluring whisper.
"You’ll regret it if you don’t see this..."
"What on earth is it? Stop trying to build suspense and just tell me!" Lin Li demanded.
But Su Yue, wanting to maintain the mystery and surprise Lin Li, had no intention of telling him what she was holding.
