Chapter 228: 228:Memories II

Atheline felt something uneasy twist inside of him. So that was how the novel went after marriage, directly imprisoned. And he had thought he had had it rough, he was basically being treated like royalty at that time.

The fact that he was watching his own wife slowly collapse was gutting him but he had to continue through it.

This is just a memory nothing else’

He had to tell himself over and over again every time her expressionless face appeared in his mind. From the moment they met, Lilith’s face had always carried different expressions though hidden but this one was just blank.

There was nothing. He couldn’t even read her.

He turned to follow her but then, the world shifted.

He stood above churning waters this time.

The wind storm before him was large as the waves rose high enough to cover buildings. Above, lightening stroke into the water like an elemental guard.

Atheline could clearly recognise the place since he had been there. It was the stormy islands, the one belonging to the sovereign of darkness.

He was not familiar with how this part went in the book. His gaze swept across the storm.

He watched as ships struggled against the storm barrier, masts cracking under pressure. Lightning split the sky while the sea itself refused passage.

And yet in all that struggle a small group still made it through.

The Saintess stood at the bow of a fragile vessel, hands raised in prayer while Caius stood beside her light surrounding him like a protective veil.

So this is how they entered the novel’

What happened after made him slightly angry and indignant. While he and Lilith had struggled to get past the storm, Caius slashed once after Yander had finished her prayer and the storm parted like a curtain.

Why isn’t Lily here, is she already inside?’

The thought calmed him down. Since they had managed to enter it, she had probably figured out how to enter and went in on her own. freewёbnoνel.com

Atheline followed them to the island. He watched the familiar routine almost the same as theirs but more emotional and suicidal.

More than ten people in the twenty-five-person team died. Some sacrificed their lives to save Yander, others for Caius, while the other’s were just plain bad luck.

What was different for them was the Second Island. There wasn’t even a small reaction from the ancient snake. The ground didn’t rise occasionally, only smooth ground was there.

The third island, the temple, was also more chaotic. Only four people remained. It irked Atheline as he watched the protagonist, Caius, take the darkness Sovereign Aether core, which belonged to Lilith.

It also puzzled him since he had not seen her through the whole fight. It was as though she never came to the island.

Caius and Yander had been the ones who made the most of the profit on the island.

What went wrong? That belongs to my wife’

Until the moment it switched to the next memory, he still couldn’t believe it.

The first thing he saw was the throne, still as majestic. Leaning slightly to the side, her head resting on her hand as her cold and detached gaze looked down at the group of councillors, nobles, ministers and military officials was Lilith.

Atheline stood beside the throne, looking at the trembling court. They all had pale faces and none of them even looked at her.

His gaze shifted to the always talkative noble elder, but the older man’s eyes moved from side to side avoiding Lilith’s. He was much quieter and the zeal that he always carried was gone.

The throne room seemed to be too glum unlike the current state in the present. He could already imagine the killing intent and pressure she was realising.

He sighed in relief. Thankfully he was nothing but a phantom.

"What is it?" She coldly demanded.

Everyone flinched collectively. The noble elder stepped forward.

"Your majesty, news has reached us of the storm ruin outside Titam kingdom trade routes," he quietly said then glanced at the others," it is believed that a lot of moon crystals were discovered." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Her hands clenched but her expression never changed.

The noble elder continued "It is believed that the saintess took all of them?"

"Why do you say that?"

He avoided her gaze as sweat flowed down his forehead. He was clearly unable to put what he wanted to say into words.

"What is it!"

Everyone jumped at her loud voice. Atheline frowned.

"News has come that moon crystals were freely distributed all over the kingdom and the saintess was the one responsible for it..." he replied, " ...people are hailing her as the saviour. "

She crossed her leg over the other and leaped further back, her glowing golden eyes sweeping over everyone.

"And what does that have anything to do with me?"

Someone gasped.

"She is taking over your prestige politically. People may start putting her above you my Queen, that is unacceptable. She is challenging your authority by distributing moon crystals that you put restrictions on!"

Her shoulders shook slightly then she burst into loud condensing laughter. Everyone waited for her to finish the tension increasing.

"What can a little thing like her ever do. Get prestige over me? What have you been eating these days... haa... You gave me a good laugh," her gaze sharpened, " if you ever bring me such useless reports I will skin you alive."

Every face paled.

"Yes, your majesty."

She smiled.

"Good, now report to me everything that has been going on."

Atheline sat through the meeting but his worry had gotten even worse. Just from the way she had dismissed what Yander was doing, Atheline knew it would be far worse.

She was probably underplaying the amount of crystals Yander and Caius had found but only he knew, the catastrophic amount especially in the hands of two green horns.

This was a huge political lever that she had lost without even knowing. He knew they would probably elevate Yander’s status across the kingdom. He wouldn’t be surprised if she came out just below Lilith in status.

"Bring me the saintess. And spread the word, anyone who uses crystals that have not been distributed by the kingdom will be beheaded. Unmarked moon crystals must be submitted to the kingdom for inspection with a legitimate source. "

Her command startled Atheline out of his thoughts.

What in the world are you doing Lily?’
