Chapter 209: Chapter 209: The Swarm Revealed, Shadow Step

The silence following the explosion was absolute.

A five-hundred-mile gap had been violently torn into the impenetrable Aegis Wall. The outer districts of the Kentari capital were a smoldering ruin of melted durasteel and pulverized silver spires.

The atmosphere of the Ringworld, previously sealed perfectly within the barrier, was bleeding slowly out into the vacuum of space, creating a swirling, atmospheric mist around the breach.

Lucifer stood on Isolde’s neck as the massive Crystalline White Dragon hovered above the devastation.

Zephyria sailed smoothly through the breach. The five-mile-wide floating city entered the atmosphere of the Ringworld, its pitch-black Void-shield cutting cleanly through the dissipating smoke of the nuclear blast.

Lucifer didn’t order the city to bombard the remaining structures. He didn’t order the mortal army to deploy.

He was looking closely at the massive crater his bombs had created.

The explosion had peeled back the thick, durasteel crust of the capital city. The sleek, utopian surface was gone, revealing the subterranean layers of the Ringworld.

It wasn’t filled with maintenance tunnels or power conduits.

It was a hive.

"Lucifer," Elara’s voice crackled over the comms rune. The Twilight Sovereign was standing on the high balcony of Zephyria as it floated into the breach. "Are you seeing the lower levels?"

"I see it," Lucifer stated coldly.

The exposed subterranean depths of the Kentari capital were completely choked with dark green, pulsating fleshy webbing.

It was the exact same biological rot he had purged in the quarantine sector. Millions of massive, glowing green egg sacs clung to the metallic underbelly of the city.

The Xenophage.

But these weren’t wild, uncontrolled infestations.

The massive, subterranean breeding grounds were neatly sectioned off by heavy, automated laser grids. Large, mechanical conveyor belts, stamped with the silver crest of the Kentari Royal Family, were actively dumping massive containers of biomatter directly into the glowing green maws of the Primary Hives.

"They are farming them," Celeste observed, her voice tight with disgust over the link. The High Ranger had zoomed in with her scope. "Those containers on the belts... Warlord, they are filled with bodies. Humanoid bodies. The Royal Family is feeding the lower-class citizens directly to the swarm."

"A symbiotic relationship," Lucifer noted smoothly, his void-swirling eyes narrowing. "The ghost of Emperor Hindley wasn’t exaggerating. The nobility feeds the poor to the bugs to keep the swarm placated, and in exchange, the swarm provides an infinite, biological defense force."

As if on cue, the exposed breeding grounds erupted.

The concussive shockwave of the Nova-Bombs had shattered the automated containment grids. Millions of Xenophage Warriors, massive Broodlords, and screeching aerial Flyers poured out of the ruptured green webbing. The bugs swarmed over the melted durasteel, their clicking, insectoid legs creating a deafening, metallic wave of sound.

They weren’t attacking the remaining Kentari forces. They were swarming upward, attempting to climb the ruined spires to reach Zephyria.

"The swarm is mobilized!" Celeste yelled. "We have millions of hostiles inbound. Snipers are tracking targets!"

"Hold fire," Lucifer commanded.

"Hold fire?!" Vexia shrieked from the Aether-Forge. "There are a billion bugs climbing up my basement walls! Let the Dragoons shoot them!"

"No," Lucifer said smoothly.

He didn’t want to waste time fighting a planetary-scale bug extermination mission. The Xenophage was an infinite swarm. If they stayed and fought, the Royal Family would have time to evacuate, or worse, deploy whatever remaining Precursor super-weapons they had hidden in the palace.

"The bugs are a distraction," Lucifer explained. "They want us bogged down in the streets. We are going to cut off the head of the snake."

He tapped the comms rune.

"Zephyria, hold altitude at thirty thousand feet," Lucifer ordered. "Maintain shields. Do not deploy ground forces. Let the bugs climb the walls; the Sanguine Grid will drain them if they touch the barrier."

"And us?" Elara asked, her spear igniting with violet fire.

"We are going inside," Lucifer stated.

He looked toward the absolute center of the Kentari capital.

Rising above the smog and the swarming bugs was the Grand Palace. It was a staggering, towering monolith of pure, unblemished silver and white gold. It was entirely untouched by the explosion, protected by localized, high-tier energy shields.

Lucifer didn’t fly Isolde toward the palace. The anti-air defenses would shoot a dragon out of the sky before she got within a mile.

"Isolde," Lucifer commanded. "Return to the city. Join the perimeter defense."

The Winter Sovereign didn’t argue. She recognized a surgical strike protocol. Isolde banked sharply, diving back toward the safety of Zephyria’s Void-shield.

Lucifer vaulted off her neck before she turned.

He plummeted toward the ruined, bug-infested streets of the capital.

He didn’t activate Zephyr’s Grace. He didn’t use Gravity Crush.

He tapped directly into his *Viceroy of Shadows* title.

"Shadow Walk," Lucifer whispered.

He didn’t hit the ground. He hit the shadow of a falling piece of debris.

The moment Lucifer touched the darkness, his physical form dissolved into pure, intangible dark matter. He seamlessly merged with the shadows of the ruined city.

He moved instantaneously, bypassing the physical world entirely. He traveled through the interconnected network of darkness cast by the towering spires, the smoke clouds, and the swarming bugs.

He didn’t travel alone.

He established the Shadow Walk link to his core commanders on Zephyria.

Elara, Lyra, Sarah, Celeste, and Vexia felt the sudden, pulling sensation of the Void magic. They didn’t resist. They let the shadows on the high balcony swallow them.

The six of them moved as a single, untrackable unit of dark matter, shooting beneath the chaotic battlefield, completely bypassing the millions of Xenophage monsters and the remaining Kentari defense grids.

They materialized simultaneously.

They stepped out of the shadows cast by a massive, polished silver statue directly inside the grand foyer of the Kentari Royal Palace.

The transition was flawless. One second they were on a floating city; the next, they were standing in the heart of the enemy stronghold.

The foyer was massive, opulent, and utterly silent. The floors were polished white marble, the walls lined with glowing, ancient Precursor technology that hummed softly.

"That is a very efficient way to travel," Vexia noted, smoothing down her crimson silk dress and hovering an inch off the spotless floor. "And much better for my footwear than walking through bug slime."

"We are in the palace," Celeste confirmed, her dark eyes scanning the vast, empty room. The High Ranger held her silver daggers at the ready. "No guards. The outer perimeter must have pulled all the security forces to the breach."

"They didn’t pull all of them," Lucifer said smoothly.

He pointed toward the massive, heavily reinforced durasteel doors at the far end of the foyer. The doors were sealed tight, glowing with intricate, red locking runes.

"The Royal Family is in the throne room," Lucifer stated. "They are locked in. They think the shield walls and the bugs will keep us busy for months."

"Let’s disappoint them," Elara smirked, spinning her violet-flaming spear.

The council moved quickly across the foyer. They didn’t bother trying to find a control panel or hack the access codes.

Lucifer stepped up to the massive durasteel doors.

He didn’t draw the Blade of Ruin. He raised his right hand. The Gauntlet of the Void King crackled with fierce, pitch-black lightning.

"Spatial Rend," Lucifer commanded quietly.

He grabbed the space directly in front of the heavy doors and violently twisted his wrist.

The localized spatial distortion didn’t just break the locks. It physically ripped the massive, fifty-foot-tall durasteel doors entirely off their reinforced hinges. The thick metal slabs imploded inward, tumbling across the polished floor of the throne room with a deafening, echoing crash.

Lucifer stepped through the ruined doorway.

The throne room was not empty.

It was a sprawling, circular chamber of blinding silver and gold. At the far end sat a massive, elevated throne made of glowing blue crystal.

Sitting on the throne was First Prince Pine.

He was an older, slightly heavier version of the arrogant Prince Phil whom Lucifer had vaporized earlier. Pine wore a ridiculous, overly ornate silver military uniform plastered with medals. He clutched a glowing control scepter in his shaking hands.

But Prince Pine was not alone. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com

Standing in a massive, protective semi-circle around the throne were twenty colossal figures.

They were not Kentari Royal Guards. They were Xenophage.

These were not the scythe-legged Warriors from the streets. These were Broodlords. They were fifteen feet tall, heavily armored in thick, pulsating dark green chitin. They wielded massive, biological cannons grafted directly onto their arms, glowing with highly corrosive, highly volatile bio-plasma.

"You broke into my palace?!" Prince Pine shrieked, his voice cracking with absolute, unadulterated panic. He pointed his glowing scepter at Lucifer. "You savages! You destroyed the Aegis Wall! You have doomed the entire Dominion to the vacuum of space!"

"I am opening a window," Lucifer corrected smoothly. He walked slowly into the center of the throne room, completely unfazed by the twenty Level 70 Mythic bugs staring at him.

"Kill them!" Pine screamed to his monstrous bodyguards. "Turn them into paste!"

The twenty Broodlords raised their biological cannons. The glowing green bio-plasma hummed, preparing to unleash a synchronized volley that would melt the entire room.

"Elara. Lyra," Lucifer said softly, not even breaking his stride.

The Twilight Sovereign and the Dawn Saintess moved instantly.

They didn’t charge the bugs. They stepped perfectly in front of Lucifer, raising their weapons. Elara’s violet-flaming spear and Lyra’s blinding holy broadsword crossed.

The two Queens unleashed their combined auras. The Twilight and Holy light slammed together, creating a massive, localized dome of absolute, impenetrable energy.

The twenty bio-plasma blasts hit the dome simultaneously.

The explosion was blinding. The throne room shook violently. The intense, corrosive heat washed over the shield, attempting to melt the magic.

But the barrier held perfectly. The Level 70 attacks splashed harmlessly against the Tier 5 Sovereigns’ combined defense.

Lucifer didn’t stop walking. He stepped through the intense glare of the exploding plasma, walking straight out of the protective dome and directly toward the Broodlords.

Prince Pine stared in horror as the Warlord emerged completely unscathed from the concentrated barrage.

"He’s a monster!" Pine wailed, scrambling backward on his crystal throne. "He’s a demon! Call the God! Summon the Fury!"

The Prince didn’t try to cast a spell. He pulled a jagged, glowing red crystal from his uniform pocket and slammed it violently against the armrest of his throne.

The crystal shattered.

The room instantly grew suffocatingly hot. The air pressure spiked, carrying the heavy, aggressive smell of burning ozone and raw, unadulterated rage.

The Prince had just hit the panic button. And the panic button summoned a deity.
