Chapter 1401: Dragonborns In Action
Aesa arrived at another battlefield only moments after separating from Eccar. The defenders there were in even worse condition.
An entire district near the outer walls had become a nightmare of destruction and death. Buildings had collapsed into the streets. Fires burned among homes. The portal hanging above the center of the district pulsed like a dark heart while endless disturbing creatures poured from it.
The defenders were barely holding on. Several knights fought with broken armor and blood covering their bodies. Mages struggled to cast even basic spells as their Magic reserves neared depletion. Corpses littered the streets around them in various conditions.
The voice of the Void Architect continued echoing inside the minds of the defenders.
"Stop fighting."
"You have already lost."
"There is no hope."
The pressure continued wearing down their morale.
Then the temperature suddenly dropped. The defenders immediately felt a chilling wind swept through the battlefield.
Frost spread across broken walls, ice crystals formed across their weapons and armor. Several defenders looked up and saw a streak of blue light descended from the sky and landed in front of them.
The impact shook the entire street. A wave of ice exploded from the landing point.
The creatures closest to the impact froze instantly. Their bodies became frozen statues before shattering into thousands of crystalline fragments.
"The Dragonborn!" Someone shouted.
Hope immediately returned. More defenders turned toward the center of the frozen street.
A lone woman stood there. Blue-white Dragon Magic flowed around her body while frost danced through the air around her.
It was Aesa.
Unlike Eccar, she showed no smile. Her expression remained cold and unreadable.
Several creatures rushed toward her. Aesa casually raised one hand and the air froze. Hundreds of ice spikes erupted from the ground. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
The charging creatures were instantly skewered. Their frozen bodies shattered moments later.
The defenders stared in awe.
Aesa glanced toward them. "You are all slowing me down."
Her voice remained as cold as ever. The exhausted defenders blinked.
"Leave. I’ll handle this."
The command was simple.
Despite her harsh tone, relief immediately spread through the defenders.
One knight who nearly collapsed from exhaustion said, "Thank you, Dragonborn."
Another mage said, "We thought we were finished."
Aesa merely nodded.
The defenders wasted no time. They began withdrawing while supporting their wounded companions. Hope had returned to them the moment they saw her.
Soon only Aesa remained before the portal.
Hundreds more creatures emerged.
Aesa narrowed her eyes. She froze entire groups with every gesture. Massive walls of ice crushed monsters. Blizzards swept through the battlefield and reduced those damned creatures into frozen fragments.
Yet the portal continued producing more.
Aesa immediately understood that the portal itself was the problem.
Above the city, she spotted a distant streak of golden-brown light. Eccar had moved on to another location.
Aesa clicked her tongue. "I need to be faster."
Blue Dragon Magic erupted from her body. The temperature across the entire district plummeted. The streets became covered in thick layers of ice. Even the portal began slowing as frost crawled across its surface.
Thousands of glowing runes appeared around the gateway.
Then gigantic chains made entirely of ice erupted from the ground and wrapped around the portal.
The dark gateway resisted and cracks started to spread through the ice.
Aesa extended both hands and the surrounding air froze solid.
The portal itself became trapped inside a colossal sphere of ice.
Then she clenched her fists and the frozen sphere shattered. The portal shattered with it. The dark energy exploded before dissolving into nothing.
The flow of creatures immediately stopped. Aesa lowered her hands and released a breath of cold air from her mouth.
One portal down but many of it still remained.
Without another word, she launched herself into the air as a streak of blue light and raced toward the next battlefield.

Sylven also arrived at his battlefield at the similar time as the two others.
The district he reached had once been one of Leonora’s residential areas. Now it barely resembled a place where people had lived. Buildings broken and hollow, fires burned, and dark corruption stained the streets while disturbing creatures continued pouring from a portal.
The exhausted defenders then saw something unexpected happened. A small figure suddenly landed on top of a stone monument.
They immediately noticed him.
A young knight’s eyes widened. "Kid! Get away from there!"
Another knight turned pale. "Someone protect him! Move the child!"
Without hesitation several defenders began rushing toward the small figure. After all, Sylven looked no older than fourteen years old. To them, he appeared completely out of place in the middle of a battlefield.
Sylven blinked. Then he smiled awkwardly at them.
Before he could explain anything, dozens of disturbing creatures noticed him and charged toward the monument.
The defenders’ expressions immediately changed.
"Look out!"
But Sylven simply raised one hand and green Dragon Magic exploded outward.
The entire battlefield shook and then the ground ruptured.
Massive roots burst from beneath the streets like serpents awakening from slumber. They tore through stone roads, walls, and erupted directly beneath the charging creatures.
The monsters never even reached him. Hundreds of vines shot up and wrapped around them. The roots tightened and their bodies exploded apart.
More vines emerged from every direction and skewered the remaining creatures before lifting them high into the air.
Flowers made of glowing green energy bloomed along the vines. A second later the flowers opened and thousands of razor-sharp petals erupted everywhere like a storm. Every creature caught within the attack was sliced apart instantly.
The defenders froze in awe. The battlefield that had nearly overwhelmed them moments ago suddenly stood empty. Only the enormous forest of roots remained.
The young knight who had tried to save Sylven stared with his mouth hanging open. "What..."
Sylven scratched the back of his head. Then he jumped down from the monument and landed before the stunned defenders.
"Sorry," he said with a sheepish smile. "I forgot I look younger than I actually am."
The defenders continued staring.
Sylven pointed at himself. "I’m one of the Dragonborn."
The words immediately shocked them even further.
Several knights almost dropped their weapons.
"A Dragonborn?"
"The Dragonborn?"
Sylven nodded. "So you don’t need to worry about me. You should all leave this area."
Relief immediately spread across the defenders.
"We thought we were finished."
"Thank you for saving us."
More voices followed.
Sylven simply waved his hand. "You’re welcome. Now go."
The defenders did not need further encouragement.
They quickly began withdrawing while helping their wounded comrades move away from the battlefield.
Within minutes, only Sylven remained standing before the portal.
The dark gateway continued pulsing while more disturbing creatures began emerging from its depths.
Sylven’s smile slowly faded.
Green Dragon Magic flowed around his body as enormous roots started spreading beneath the district.
Just like Eccar and Aesa before him, he understood immediately.
The creatures were not the real problem. The portal was. He immediately act to destroy it.
