Chapter 430: Chapter 413: A Remarkable Commotion
As he pondered, Yang Jian’s Spiritual Power swept over Gao Linglong. This girl had a stunning aura. The way she faced them wasn’t calmness, but a kind of indifference. It was just too strange.
The moment his Spiritual Power made contact with Linglong, Yang Jian froze. With his level of power, he had of course discovered the mystic secret she held.
’This kid... when did he get mixed up with the Dragon Race? The Dragon Race has always been proud and aloof, never interacting with Human Cultivators. This...’
It had to be said, Xuee Zhongnan was a rather uninteresting person. At a time like this, any other Sect Leader would have been constantly trying to build connections and offer benefits. But Xuee Zhongnan just droned on and on about the Holy Hall’s principles, telling Wang Meng to shoulder more responsibility.
Even Yang Jian, who didn’t care much for such things, was speechless listening to it. And yet, Wang Meng on the other side was nodding frequently, accepting the lecture with great humility.
’It’s truly a case of one weirdo meeting another. There’s just no helping it.’
After chatting with the two for a while, Wang Meng and Linglong went to their arranged accommodations. They were indeed quite luxurious, much better than last time. After becoming a Star Alliance Envoy, his status was completely different.
"That Sect Leader of yours is a good person," Linglong said suddenly.
Wang Meng just smiled. In the Cultivation World, being good or bad wasn’t the point.
"You should rest. I have to go out for a bit." Wang Meng wanted to find Xu Huang.
"I’ll go with you," Linglong said.
Wang Meng cleared his throat. "Well, the place I’m going isn’t really suitable for you."
"It’s fine, I don’t mind," Linglong said nonchalantly. "My father, the emperor, told me to follow you to see more of the world."
Wang Meng was beyond frustrated. ’Lady, you may not mind, but I do!’
But Master Wang really had no way to handle Linglong. He couldn’t just let her do as she pleased, either. If she threw a princess-sized tantrum, heaven knew what kind of trouble she would stir up. Wang Meng didn’t want to cause any trouble for his Sect Leader.
"Are you sure?"
"I’m sure."
So, Wang Meng took Linglong with him.
Xu Huang was delighted by Wang Meng’s arrival and was also very enthusiastic toward Linglong. It was obvious Xu Huang had misunderstood their relationship. Wang Meng had no way to explain, and Linglong just acted completely unfazed.
The two found a tavern. It was clearly a bit of a "dive bar," the very ordinary kind, but this was the sort of place Xu Huang and his friends usually hung out.
With Xu Huang, Wang Meng could really relax. They went back and forth, drinking joyfully.
"I want to try some," Linglong said out of the blue.
Wang Meng was stunned. Xu Huang just laughed heartily. "Alright, coming right up!"
"Thank you, Brother Xu," Linglong said.
Wang Meng was practically petrified. ’...Is this still Linglong? She actually knows how to be polite???’
Linglong took a sip, smacked her lips, and a blush appeared on her cheeks. "It’s so spicy."
Xu Huang couldn’t help but roar with laughter. "That’s liquor for you! The spicier the better. Wang Meng, your girlfriend is very cute."
"Ahem, we’re not..."
"Brother Xu, I’ll toast you." As she spoke, Linglong actually downed the whole cup of liquor, though the Dragon Maiden clearly choked a little.
"Haha, excellent!"
Xu Huang also drained his cup. You could tell he had a great impression of Linglong; not only was she beautiful, she was also straightforward and frank.
"Brother Xu, what was Wang Meng like back in the Holy Hall?" Linglong asked.
"Haha, you’ve asked the right person! This kid used to be a real character. Let me tell you..."
Tipsy, Xu Huang was excited and began to tell Linglong about the first time he met Wang Meng. Wang Meng didn’t even have time to stop him. Linglong, however, listened with great interest.
"Well, if it isn’t Xu Huang. Looks like you’re doing pretty well for yourself, even have money for drinks. When are you going to pay up?"
A few Cultivators surrounded them. The leader was a Body Cultivator whose eyes were glued to Linglong. With a bit of liquor in her, Linglong’s cheeks were flushed. Her long, shapely legs were slightly exposed, their white skin dazzling. Perhaps it was the atmosphere, but she seemed to have shed her usual cold arrogance, making her even more alluring.
In truth, while the three of them had been drinking, many eyes in the tavern had already been drifting their way.
Xu Huang stood up. "Hex Dong, I have a junior from my Holy Hall here today. I’ll give you an answer tomorrow!"
"Oh, a Holy Hall Disciple, how nice. Why wait until tomorrow? There’s no time like the present. Don’t tell me you’re planning to welsh on your debt? This little lady is quite a looker. Is she one of your Holy Hall Disciples?"
"Hex Dong, if you want to start something, I’ll be happy to oblige!"
"Start something? Can you afford to? Don’t think Xuee Zhongnan can protect you. You owe money to the Immortal Commerce. Not even the Heavenly Emperor himself could save you now!"
Hex Dong was incredibly arrogant. The Cultivators behind him burst out laughing as well. They had clearly all been drinking and were deliberately looking for trouble.
Wang Meng frowned. He didn’t mind someone picking a fight, but how did Xu Huang end up in debt?
He had heard of the Immortal Commerce. It was a massive organization that operated across various Small Thousand Realms, acquiring all sorts of resources. It also ran many high-end auction houses, traded in intelligence, and was even rumored to have an assassination business.
"Hex Dong, I’m right here. I’m not going to run away. I will definitely repay the money I owe the Commerce. Besides, I still have three days!"
Xu Huang said in a low voice.
"Is that so? A thousand Top-Grade Spirit Stones. What are you going to pay that back with? As a Steward, I’ve determined that you no longer have the ability to repay your debt. So, you’d better come with us."
"You’re just looking for trouble!"
"Heh heh, Xu Huang, we go way back. I don’t really want to make things difficult for you. How about this: let me take this little girl with me, and I can give you a one-month extension. How about it? No interest!"
The way Hex Dong stared at Linglong, it was as if his eyes were about to bore right into her.
Wang Meng thought to himself, ’This guy is about to have a very bad day. With Linglong’s temper, she’s going to blast him to smithereens.’
But Master Wang had miscalculated again. Not only was Linglong not angry, she even looked a little scared, blinking her big eyes. One can only imagine how devastatingly effective a proud Dragon Princess would be when putting on a timid, pitiful act.
If it weren’t for the public setting, Hex Dong would have truly gone wild. The breathing of the Cultivators behind him also quickened.
The sound of swallowing filled the tavern.
"Wang Meng, Linglong, you two should head back. This is just a small matter. I’ll take care of it, and we can get together again next time," Xu Huang said with a smile.
No matter what, how could Wang Meng let them take Xu Huang away? He stood up. Although he didn’t have a thousand Top-Grade Spirit Stones on him, with his current abilities, it wouldn’t be a problem to find a way to get them.
"I’ll guarantee it. The one thousand Spirit Stones will be repaid within three days."
Hex Dong was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter. After laughing maniacally for a bit, he glared ferociously at Wang Meng and roared, "Where did a little punk like you crawl out from? Who the hell do you think you are to speak here?!"
The Cultivators in the tavern all waited for the show to begin.
The Immortal Commerce was an incredibly powerful and far-reaching organization, the kind that even Sects wouldn’t easily provoke.
Wang Meng looked at Hex Dong and shook his head helplessly. "Originally, I really did want to be reasonable!"
And Master Wang made his move. With a wave of his right hand, a golden Spirit Rhinoceros Finger materialized in the air.
"A Life Artifact!"
A wave of low gasps went through the tavern. To possess a Life Artifact, one’s power was certainly not ordinary.
Hex Dong had never paid the Holy Hall any mind, and he certainly never expected someone hanging around with trash like Xu Huang to actually have a Life Artifact.
BOOM...
The Spirit Rhinoceros Finger shot out. Hex Dong frantically pulled out a giant shield. The finger slammed into the shield, erupting with a powerful shockwave.
This Hex Dong was also at the Minor Perfection level. The people recruited by the Immortal Commerce were never weak.
The force of the finger blast sent Hex Dong stumbling back five or six steps. Just as he was about to start cursing, streams of golden light shot toward him.
BOOM... BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM...
Wang Meng didn’t give him any chance to react, firing a continuous barrage of Spirit Rhinoceros Fingers. The shield in Hex Dong’s hand was no ordinary item. A Profound Turtle was carved on it, and a blue Crystal Stone was embedded in its shell. Each time a Spirit Rhinoceros Finger struck the Profound Turtle, it would flare with blue light. However, it only blocked three hits before the light shattered. On the fourth strike, cracks appeared on the shield. Hex Dong never imagined his opponent would be so ruthless. ’Isn’t he afraid of offending the Commerce???’
Hex Dong never got his answer. He was blasted straight out of the tavern’s main entrance by the Spirit Rhinoceros Finger and sent tumbling into the street.
The few Cultivators who were with Hex Dong also faced the attack of the Spirit Rhinoceros Fingers. The smarter ones had already fled.
Wang Meng had no intention of starting a massacre in Snow Moon City. There were always some worthless scum in this world.
"Stop, or I’ll kill her!"
A Cultivator shot out from nowhere, placing a jet-black Long Sword against Linglong’s fair neck—a shocking sight.
Xu Huang was furious. "Put the sword down! You dare kill someone in Snow Moon City!"
"Heh heh, Xu Huang, you’re not a kid anymore, yet you’re still so naive. Who said I was going to kill her? But if I were to slice up her pretty little face, I imagine a lot of people would be heartbroken. Enough talk. Let’s go, little lady!"
The Cultivator with a goatee sneered sinisterly.
Wang Meng, however, was quite relaxed. He gestured for Xu Huang to stay out of it. "Sure, if you want to take her, then take her."
Linglong slowly turned her head, a cold smile gracing her lips. The moment after she smiled, the goateed Cultivator turned into an ice sculpture. The temperature in the entire tavern seemed to plummet.
"Tian’Er said you were a trustworthy man. You didn’t even protect me at a time like this. Are you even human?!" Her Highness the Princess was clearly quite displeased.
Wang Meng just smiled, not minding at all. "You don’t need it. Do you think that kind of protection would have been meaningful?"
Linglong thought about it and realized he had a point. She sat back down as if nothing had happened, right next to the artistically posed ice sculpture.
’One has a Life Artifact, the other can use Ice Magic without a sound. These two youngsters are experts.’
Xu Huang downed a cup of liquor. "You two should go first."
"Brother Xu, let’s keep talking. Wang Meng has some skills, just let him handle it. You were just talking about Yang Ying. Is that girl really that beautiful?" Linglong asked, her interest piqued.
Xu Huang wasn’t one to shrink from trouble either, so he sat down and continued his story for Linglong. After chatting for a while longer, he realized the two weren’t in that kind of relationship, so he spoke freely.
Wang Meng, on the other hand, was completely relegated to being a chaperone. The surrounding Cultivators were all trying to guess the duo’s origins. They had some real nerve, beating up people from the Immortal Commerce and not even leaving.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before a squad of Cultivators arrived with great fanfare at the tavern’s entrance.
More than twenty Cultivators all bore the insignia of the Immortal Commerce. The leader glared viciously around at everyone. This was unbelievable. Someone actually dared to provoke the Immortal Commerce? Even the City Lord had to show them some respect. The most impressive thing about the Immortal Commerce was that even the City Lords of various places might one day need to borrow money from them.
To be continued.
