Chapter 410: Chapter 393: Divine Techniques
After Ji Rushan returned to the cliff, the Exotic Beasts once again tangled together, reforming into a floating stone.
The process was rather nauseating for everyone to watch.
"The Dragon Tomb probably isn’t a place just anyone can enter. I’ll give it a try."
Mingren smiled faintly, but the others all had mixed expressions. ’This guy really doesn’t know how to choose his words.’
Mingren stepped onto the first floating stone. He used neither Elemental Power nor a Holy Statue, but strangely enough, the stone didn’t explode.
Bu Qingyun had a sudden realization. "These things might be small monsters that survive by absorbing Dragon Qi. One must have an aura powerful enough to make them submit. Your very being must be of a higher order than theirs."
"This must be the Talent Bridge recorded in the ancient texts."
Only by possessing a sufficiently superior foundational aura could one prevent these Exotic Beasts from attacking. The alternative was death.
"The Dragon Tomb must be just ahead."
Seeing that they were about to reach the Dragon Tomb, everyone’s eyes lit up with excitement. Ji Rushan was the exception, of course. If this theory held true, it meant he was barred from entry.
’With my talent, Ji Rushan of the Celestial Rainbow Sect, I can’t even pass this one trial???’
With no incidents along the way, Mingren smoothly crossed to the other side.
No one dared to compare themselves to someone with the Holy Light Demon Collapse Body.
Lin Jinghao went second. The moment he stepped forward, the void was suddenly filled with countless white lights. They didn’t attack him, however. Instead, they formed a complete bridge, as if welcoming him home.
The Nine Luminaries Cyan Dragon Body possessed the aura of a dragon.
Legend had it that at the dawn of the world, all the Small Thousand Realms were one. The Dragon Race, the Demon Race, and humans all shared a common ancestor, until some unknown event shattered that unity.
It even shattered the Small Thousand Realms into countless sundered spaces, creating the situation they knew today.
But such matters were too remote for humankind, who lacked the long lifespans of the Dragon and Demon Races.
Lin Jinghao reached the other side without a hitch.
He glanced at Ling Fei, who gave a slight shake of her head. Bu Qingyun then stepped forward. The Young Master of the Cyan Cloud Sect was quite proud, and sure enough, the floating stone remained perfectly stable. Although his crossing lacked Lin Jinghao’s dramatic flair, Bu Qingyun also reached the other side successfully.
The moment Bu Qingyun arrived, before Yi Fan could even make a move, Ye Haitian’s figure flickered and he landed on a floating stone. The star disciple of the Evil Intent Sect was clearly eager to try, having waited for a long time.
Instantly, the floating stone beneath his feet dissolved into streaks of white light that slashed toward him. Ye Haitian sneered, leaping into the air and flying toward the other side. By the time Wang Meng and the others tried to stop him, it was already too late.
In an instant, the void transformed into an ocean of white light as countless rays surged toward Ye Haitian.
Gritting his teeth, Ye Haitian summoned his Life Artifact—the Sea and Sky Banner. An illusory ocean instantly materialized around him, its towering waves radiating Elemental Power and blocking the countless white lights.
"Ye Haitian, come back!" Yi Fan roared.
But Ye Haitian refused to listen. He had summoned his Life Artifact with the intent to force his way to the Other Shore; he had no intention of giving up halfway.
The Sea and Sky Banner desperately resisted the Exotic Beasts’ assault as they tore at it frantically. Gradually, cracks began to appear in the illusory sea.
It took only a single fissure for one of the Exotic Beasts to slip through. Ye Haitian was horrified as it lunged for his eye.
Its speed was unimaginable. Ye Haitian hastily dodged, but that one opening was the beginning of the end.
At this point, Ye Haitian couldn’t escape even if he wanted to. With a bloodcurdling scream, the countless white lights swarmed him. In an instant, Ye Haitian was reduced to a skeleton, which then plummeted into the Abyss.
His Command Banner fell into the Abyss along with its master.
A Life Artifact of this caliber would be incredibly tempting to most, but no one present would risk their life for it. In the hands of another, someone else’s Life Artifact was, at best, a powerful Magical Artifact.
Yi Fan sighed and stepped forward onto a stone. It wobbled instantly, and white light began to flare. Yi Fan’s figure flickered, and he returned to the cliff.
He shook his head with a bitter smile. "Looks like there’s no chance for me. Senior Brother, I’ll wait for you out here."
On the other shore, Bu Qingyun nodded.
Yi Fan and Ji Rushan exchanged a glance, their expressions clearly showing their frustration. To have come all this way only to be unable to see the Dragon Tomb for themselves was a bitter pill to swallow.
But compared to Ye Haitian’s fate, it was better to take a step back and live to fight another day.
Chen Zhuhua and Meii Youqing were clearly frightened by Ye Haitian’s gruesome end. The two had already discussed it; even if they made it across this floating bridge, the ordeal wasn’t over. The Qingyang Daoist Sect’s records on the Dragon Cave stated there were at least three more trials ahead. It was time to retreat in the face of such difficulty.
In this situation, the best course of action for Hua Jianyu would have been to give up, but he refused.
He threw out the Demon Suppression Tower. ’This isn’t the Sect; out here, it’s all about individual strength.’
Hua Jianyu hadn’t used his full strength against the Wandering Souls. Holding the Demon Suppression Tower in his palm, he stepped onto a floating stone. The stone shuddered, as if trying to break free, but the Demon Suppression Tower erupted with light, forcefully suppressing the Exotic Beast.
It took Hua Jianyu some time, but after watching so many others test the way, he had figured out the rules. ’As long as I stay on the floating stones, the Exotic Beasts in the void won’t attack. So for these stones, I just have to stop them from breaking apart to get across!’
And his Demon Suppression Tower had exactly that ability.
Having finally reached the other side, Hua Jianyu let out a huge sigh of relief, his forehead drenched in sweat. With every stone he stepped on, he had to use the Demon Suppression Tower to suppress the Exotic Beast and keep it from scattering. The suppression wouldn’t last long, but it was just enough time for him to cross.
Only Ling Fei and Wang Meng remained.
"I’ll take you across," Ling Fei said.
Wang Meng smiled, shook his head, and gave Ling Fei a slightly puzzled look. "You’ve already helped me so much. Any more and I’ll be embarrassed. Let me try on my own."
"Wang Meng, you don’t have to do this. Advancing a Five Elements Body is difficult, but it’s not as if there are no other ways."
Ling Fei said, biting her lip.
Wang Meng looked at Ling Fei with a strange expression. ’Something isn’t right.’ It was as if Ling Fei knew him extremely well. While they had gotten along quite well at the Alchemy Institute, their friendship hadn’t reached this level.
Wang Meng wasn’t arrogant enough to think that Ling Fei was interested in him.
"This trip to the Dragon Tomb is very important to me. It’s my chance to find life in the face of death."
Wang Meng said with a smile, not looking at all like a man marching to his death.
Ling Fei was clearly about to stop him, but Wang Meng suddenly shook his head. "If we’re talking about constitutions, my Five Elements Body isn’t bad at all."
Ling Fei froze, retracting the hand she had extended to stop him, but her entire body remained on high alert. "Go ahead and try!"
Ji Rushan, Yi Fan, Chen Zhuhua, and Meii Youqing all watched with peculiar expressions. Ji Rushan was a bit more reserved, having some history with Wang Meng. But Yi Fan and the two women shook their heads. This was a classic case of not knowing one’s own limits.
’On the path of Cultivation, how many chances do you get to just ’give it a try’? Pushing your luck will get you killed.’
Everyone present was from a top-twenty Sect. Although the Holy Hall had produced Mingren, that was just a fluke. One could say the Holy Hall simply got incredibly lucky.
In their eyes, Wang Meng was simply overestimating his own abilities. ’He probably thinks he’s on the same level as Mingren. But on the path of Cultivation, reality is cruel. Someone you once looked down on might surpass you in an instant.’
Wang Meng appeared relaxed on the surface, but inwardly he was quite anxious.
As he stepped onto the first stone, everyone watched with bated breath. Mingren’s expression remained unchanged, though ever since Wang Meng had appeared, he seemed to have reverted to his old self.
The floating stone was stable. Ling Fei couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief. ’The Five Elements Body is a type of variant Sacred Body, so its order isn’t low. These Exotic Beasts have always responded to auras, not raw power.’
But she had sighed in relief too soon. The stone instantly dissolved into countless motes of white light. Not only that, but a great light erupted from the Abyss, even more astonishing than the commotion Ye Haitian had caused.
Faint roars echoed from within the Abyss. The blood-red darkness below began to churn and boil, as if something terrifying was about to erupt from it.
Ling Fei wanted to act and pull Wang Meng back, but the countless white lights had already formed a barrier. At this point, even she, with her Holy Statue, would be rushing to certain death if she charged in.
But then, something miraculous happened. The white lights weren’t attacking Wang Meng. Instead, they swirled around him, eventually coalescing into a Giant Dragon formed from countless motes of light.
The Giant Dragon’s head was right before Wang Meng’s eyes. He could feel the Dragon Crystal in his Sea of Fate throbbing. With a wave of his hand, the Light Dragon lowered its head. Wang Meng stepped onto it, but instead of flying to the other shore, the dragon brought him before Ling Fei and the others.
"Come on up. I’ll give you a ride across," Wang Meng said with a smile. Inwardly, he was both grateful to Tu Mu and puzzled. ’He clearly knew what Human Cultivators come to a Dragon Tomb for, so why did he give me a Dragon Crystal?’
Ling Fei stepped on without hesitation. The Light Dragon remained perfectly still. Ji Rushan was momentarily dazed as he recalled his Sect Leader’s words, and a complex feeling welled up inside him.
Ji Rushan jumped on. The Light Dragon seemed a bit reluctant, but after Wang Meng gently patted its horn, it settled down.
Chen Zhuhua and Meii Youqing looked at each other in dismay. They had just been looking down on Wang Meng. As the proud prodigies of the Qingyang Daoist Sect, they were too embarrassed to accept his offer.
"Come on up. Don’t you two want to see the Dragon Tomb for yourselves?" Wang Meng asked with a smile.
Unable to resist the temptation of the Dragon Tomb, Chen Zhuhua and Meii Youqing hesitated for a moment before jumping onto the Light Dragon. The dragon then carried everyone across to the other shore.
Wang Meng waved his hand, and the Light Dragon dissolved into countless motes of white light, disappearing into the gloom.
Hua Jianyu’s gaze toward Wang Meng was complex, but it was mostly filled with hostility. He had used up half of the Demon Suppression Tower’s power just to get across, and this guy...
Lin Jinghao looked Wang Meng up and down, sniffing intently. "You seem to have the scent of the Dragon Race on you. How strange. Very strange indeed."
Lin Jinghao only possessed the Nine Luminaries Cyan Dragon Body; to put it plainly, he merely had a draconic presence in his soul. Wang Meng, on the other hand, definitely possessed a true Dragon Qi, which was why these Exotic Beasts had been so obedient.
Mingren and Wang Meng exchanged a smile. In this world, perhaps everyone else would underestimate Wang Meng, but not Mingren.
It had always been just Mingren.
"Let’s see the true face of the Dragon Tomb."
The group saw a massive stone gate held up by pillars hundreds of meters tall. Coiled around the pillars were bas-reliefs of Giant Dragons.
"So, it’s behind this door? Allow me!"
Ji Rushan said. ’When it comes to strength, who can compare to a Body Cultivator?’
