Chapter 94: Traitors

A burst of wind hits their faces as they look towards the direction of the explosion, their faces turning serious as they knew that what was eventually going to happen was finally coming.

"Fuck you, goddamn traitors!! Especially you, Lucan! I treated you like a BROTHER, HELPED you HAVE your current JOB, and THIS, THIS IS HOW YOU’RE GOING TO REPAY IT!??"

Swinging an arm while casting wind elemental magic, one field operative shouted in utter wrath as he cleared the aftermath of the explosion, making sure that the violence of his spell never reached the students standing behind him.

"No hard feelings, Reinhardt; this is just the way the world works..." one of the field staff standing opposite him said, a faint, mocking smile on their face as they reached out with their staff, creating a great magic circle of glowing crimson that tells how much of a danger this spell will be once it is released.

There was no stopping it at all, that crimson magic circle disappearing as a massive meteoric fire descends in its place, causing color to drain out of the students’ faces, most of them merely comforting themselves by thinking that this is nothing but a nightmare that will eventually come to pass.

"REAAAGHH!!" the students will be snapped away from their terrified daze; however, another operative defending the students shouts in frustration as she waves her staff, creating an azure magic circle that manifests a thick, solid dome of water that encompasses the entirety of the area.

That scream shows just how difficult it is for this elite mage to fend off the meteor descending towards their location, her arms- no, all her limbs trembling as she barely keeps the protective water dome from collapsing underneath the offensive spell’s weight and force.

"I see... no hard feelings... is it?" meanwhile, looking at the meteor being dropped on them, the field staff who first spoke, Reinhardt, mutters to himself as he begins floating in mid-air, alarming both his allies and opponents, as during the time they are working together, they know full well that him acting like this means one thing and one thing only.

He snapped.

And with that single motion, the meteor was completely doused of its original power as it quickly receded into nothing more than a small ember, before eventually being snuffed out of existence by the raging wind now blowing in its place.

"Defend yourselves!!" his opponents warned among themselves as they rushed and did the best they could offer at that moment to create defensive barriers that would hopefully fend off the attack coming for their lives.

"Stay behind me!!" meanwhile, the female mage who previously defended against the meteor shouts in urgency as she creates a water barrier once again, knowing full well that even just the aftermath of this man’s magic might injure the students if they, the field operatives, don’t act to defend them.

There wasn’t even a grand magic circle or anything else signifying the great height of mastery over the spell cast, only a single indicator that this man is far from a normal elite.

All hell broke loose.

That single snap creates a current of air so terrifying that it turns the space within it a vacuum for a mere moment, causing everything within its surroundings to get pulled towards its center, as if a cyclone intending to destroy everything around it.

That wasn’t the most terrifying part of it all, as just like the calm before the storm, that pulling motion stopped for a mere moment, giving everyone a moment of respite.

Before the storm approaches, that is.

The pulling motion is overturned, inverting into a pushing one, both sharp and swift, blades of wind surging towards his front while some stray, weaker ones were directed behind him as well, showing why it is that even his allies erected a barrier to protect themselves from his attack.

Rocks, grass, trees, even the earth itself, everything in the path of those wind blades was cleaved, leaving behind an indelible mark of damage that reveals the prowess of this field operative for the entire student body to witness in its entirety. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"Even if he’s just an academy operative right now, Sir Reinhardt was once a student of the academy as well..." one of the field staff watching behind the wall of water told the students as he looked up to that oppressive figure floating in mid-air with a clear gaze of admiration.

"That’s Reinhardt’s original, something incredibly hard to create, a spell derived from rudimentary ones, mixed together, recalibrated and repurposed to bring something new..." one other operative explains as she watches the curious gaze on the students’ faces, clearly in wonder what sort of spell their protector is using right now.

"Watch closely, at the very least, you will all have the chance to take a step to that level in the future, students..." that same operative continues, his words giving the students the faintest trace of hope in this direst of times, his easygoing smile making them feel comforted and motivated all the more.

"AAAAGHHH!!!"

"HELP!!!"

Some of the weaker ones among his opponents scream in front of Reinhardt’s relentless spell, magic barriers being torn apart by virtue of his wind blades’ sheer sharpness, cleaving the bodies of the people hiding behind in a swift, ruthless fashion that disregards the years shared working together.

"Reinhardt, stop!! You’re going to kill me too!!" while he continues with his endless assault, he hears a feminine voice seemingly begging for mercy, forcing his gaze to be directed towards the individual, and as soon as his gaze lands on the source of the voice, it happens.

His hand loosened from his stave as the faintest light of mercy appeared in his eyes.

Who wouldn’t? After all, it is the very woman that he fell in love with, created a great relation with, that is speaking to him right now, causing the seed of hesitation to bury itself deep in his heart, his hand trembling as he came to realize that if he were to continue with his assault, then this lady would eventually fall under his spell as well.

He froze.

He hesitated, to the point that the endless torrent of wind blades began dying in number.

But as he looks at the student behind him, he is forced to remember why he so decisively deploys his most taxing attack without further consideration at all.

’Traitors.’ The thoughts appear in his mind as he looks at the several-year-long companion now standing against him, deviating from the purpose of academy operatives like them, causing him to clench his teeth in a renewed resolve, all while replying in a cold, detached tone.

"Mercy is not for traitors to claim."

Mana dances around his being once more, this time in an even livelier fashion than before, yet before his spell can even surge in strength again, he is met with another difficult circumstance. frёewebηovel.cѳm

Perhaps due to the hesitation he felt while mid-casting a sustained spell, his body had taken quite the toll, forcing him to cough blood several times in a row, all while his body began descending from the air down to the ground, the spell receding in strength as he did so.

Eventually, he collapsed, blood staining the ground as he barely kept himself up, the allies gathering around him in an attempt to help him up, but he merely raised his hand as if to stop them from doing so, wanting them to focus more on the opponents in front of them.

Trees fall down, along with the bodies of traitors, and yet despite that, malignant roots of said traitors still remain, as the more powerful among them managed to survive the violent onslaught of his spell, now eyeing this once-savior with immense hostility in their eyes, thinking that he should be the top priority to be eliminated.

The ones standing alongside Reinhardt wouldn’t allow it to happen, however, as magic circles also began appearing around them, prepared to deal with whatever their opponents were going to throw at them.

Flame rages, and gale blows as spells between elite mages clash once more.
