Chapter 73: Growing Dangers

Despite being a sophomore student, Laios Evergreen still couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed standing against opponents far greater in number compared to his own group, with little responsibility on him, forcing himself to stand in front of the group of freshmen he is leading as a form of taking responsibility.

"Let’s stop the screaming, chances are, we’re just going to attract more enemies than getting actual help..." he told them as he took a deep breath, intending to take down some of the Silver Direwolves instead in order to score just a little bit more before being disqualified.

Hearing the seriousness in his voice, the underclassmen agree with him as they prepare their weapons, magic staffs, and short staves as well, intending not to go down without a fight.

Leaves rustled, forcing them to let their guards down, the cogs in their minds whirring as they began thinking of ways to deal with the approaching threat.

Then, a blurry shadow appears around their peripherals, that sudden, swift, and eerie movement making all the hairs in their body stand straight up, as if they just encountered a creature that grows specifically to hunt.

And hunting is what that blurry figure truly did.

But the prey wasn’t what the group expected it to be.

They were already prepared to get disqualified once that swift figure pounced on them and activated the barrier of the protective bracelet, only for them to notice something off.

The E Tier Silver Direwolves, previously vigorous, threatening, and powerful, as they eye the group of students, now feel far more manageable than before. Shallow, yet debilitating wounds suddenly appear around their limbs, making them easier to deal with compared to their strength before.

’That’s about it, those two D Tiers should be the main problem...’ after dealing with the weaker creatures surrounding the students, the blurry shadow stopped moving as he landed silently on the branch of a tall tree, his eyes glowing the faintest of gold as he took a look in a certain direction.

’She’s fast...’ this figure remarked as he watched a blade-wielding lady fighting against two D Tier creatures, one of them being a larger, faster, and seemingly smarter version of the Silver Direwolves he just dealt with previously, and the other one being a bear with iron-like skin.

Despite the difference in size, however, the lady appears to be the one commanding the match between herself and her two opponents, the two beasts dancing around her palm as she swings and thrusts her blade all around, gradually forcing these opponents to accumulate debilitating wounds all around their bodies.

Disappearing from the branch of that tree once again, this figure turned into a blurry shadow once more, within a few moments reaching another spot where another pair of strong creatures were lurking in wait for students that they can turn into nourishment and food.

’Sensory Expansion.’

As soon as he hit attacking range and saw two D Tier Silver Direwolves seemingly waiting around for their kin to take care of the group of students, they got surrounded, the figure, Novus, immediately opened and expanded his senses, intending to deal with them as fast as he can by taking advantage of the things he had learned and developed during his third time in the Evolution Domain.

’Weak... weaker than the slimes in the domain at least...’ Despite these Silver Direwolves standing at a higher tier than all the slimes he had fought against in his time in the Evolution Domain, Novus still couldn’t help but think as he saw the difference in certainty, in the solidity of these direwolves’ path of attack.

As if picking up some sort of danger approaching them, the two Silver Direwolves immediately perked up as they exude a thick, suffocating, murderous intent, forcing every living being around and near them to either freeze in place, shaking from terror, or scuttling away while also trembling in complete fear.

The threat doesn’t seem to disappear even with such a warning from them, though, as they feel a chill running down their spine, the fur around their neck standing particularly straight as if they can sense something about to hit them right there. ƒreewebɳovel.com

And their speculation is the right one, the threat forcing them to turn around and fight back, both Silver Direwolves immediately pouncing towards the source of that malicious intent directed at them.

As soon as they reached the figure, intending to fight with them, they swung their sharp claws, planning to rip the opponent to shreds.

Sharp claws tore through flesh and cracked bones, all while crimson blood splattered on their silver fur.

The two D Tier Silverwolves reveal a smirking expression as they watch their proudest sharp weapon sinking through the flesh of the opponent, audacious enough to try and ambush them despite the difference in strength, the mana around the creature in front of them paling in comparison to theirs.

Perhaps this false sense of superiority from measuring one’s strength through mana alone is the very reason why they noticed it way too late.

Their opponent raised his bloodied arms, his hands eventually reaching both their limbs, grasping them completely as fingers tightly clasped around them.

Then it just hit their mind, that bloodlust, that murderous intent directed towards them never disappeared in the first place, forcing them to draw their limbs back in an attempt to expose their opponent’s damaged part even more.

"You’re not going anywhere, pups." Novus looked up, the fur on the entirety of his opponents standing at their very ends as they watch that faint, yet ever-so-threatening smile crack his face, their instincts screaming that this opponent is nothing but danger personified for them to deal with.

Flesh is mangled, and bones are shattered.

This time, it wasn’t Novus who took damage, but the two Silver Direwolves instead, their howling resounding all across the woods as their attacking limbs got completely destroyed, bones turned into smithereens and poking through their torn flesh and skin, some of them even piercing through their opponent’s skin and flesh.

While they feel immense pain from the damage, however, Novus merely smiles even when his hands are filled with pokes and holes from the Silver Direwolves’ shards of bones, as if he’s just about to do them something far worse.

"Hup."

He inhaled, deep, before mana gathered around himself in a torrent that felt like a cyclone circling around the eye of the storm, reinforcing his arms’ muscles, skin, and bones near instantaneously before he decided that it was already his turn to attack.

He landed a punch, shocking his opponents to no end.

"Beasts are gathering around SE-3 and E-4 sectors; several student groups are also noticed roaming around that area!"

"Monsters from NW-4 and W-5 sectors are gathering around as well; they seem to be surrounding the students in that area!!"

"Vice Headmaster, we are getting more and more reports of field staff spotting middle to high D Tier beasts and monsters around the infested island!!!"

As she hears all those reports coming from the staff around her, Runia’s hands clenched tighter and tighter, her composure barely being maintained by the thought that letting her wrath take over will do nothing to help with the situation the students found themselves in right now.

"Call in all available rescue and combatant staffs right now, we’re going to send them into the field too." she decided as she began massaging her forehead in an attempt to calm herself down.
