Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Devil Slayer Wolf

As Riven stared at the wolf below them, he saw from the corner of his eyes — a wolf with white fur that was covered in blood and wound across its entire body charging towards the brown wolf.

Before anyone could react, including the brown wolf, it jumped and landed directly on top of the brown wolf’s body, completely pinning it down.

It tried to bite down on the brown wolf’s neck but before it could succeed, the brown wolf used it tail to attack. It’s tail collided with white wolf’s with fierce force and it’s grip on the brown wolf’s body loosened.

Seizing this opportunity the brown wolf broke free and bit down on the white wolf. It tried to drive its broken claws into the white wolf’s body.

However, the white wolf fought back by thrashing its body against the brown wolf and trying to bite or claw it every time it got a chance.

Due to the intensity of the fight beneath them, the tree trembled violently. Riven tightly gripped the trunk of the tree for support before he turned to Ayala.

Ayala also had gripped the trunk for support. He gave her a nod of approval and said.

"Be careful..."

Ayala replied.

"I will, mister."

Afterwards, he turned his back on the battle. The battle was still raging.

The white wolf bit down on the brown Wolf’s skull with its powerful jaw. In an instant, the skull exploded into a bloody mess and the lifeless body of the brown wolf slammed onto the ground.

It had killed the brown wolf just like that.

However, the kill came at a cost. That was the ability to defend itself.

The white wolf stumbled before collapsing onto the ground. There was no moment except the movement of its chest moving up and down indicating it was still breathing.

Both were far beyond anything he could defeat normally... but now one could barely move and the other was dead.

He could take advantage of the white wolf’s injury and seal it away. He would gain a subject stronger than Level 35.

That would boost his combat power greatly.

He just had to seal the wolf to make it his subject.

A heartbeat later, he created the mental images of two daggers and they manifested in his palm. Riven turned his head to Ayala and said.

"Stay here..."

Without waiting for a response, he threw the daggers towards the back of the injured wolf with all his might. They landed without any resistance and lodged themselves deep into the flesh of the beast.

The wolf roared as the dagger began to dissolve into a blue aura which flowed into the wolf’s body. Its body started to twitch uncontrollably and it tried to stand up but...

The white wolf slammed onto the ground. The wolf tried to stand up again but it slammed to the ground again. It kept trying and failing as its body twitched uncontrollably.

As the wolf struggled to stand up and its body twitched uncontrollably, he jumped and landed on the back of the wolf. He manifested a long sword this time and drove it into the flesh of the wolf.

The moment it touched its skin, the long sword dissolved into blue aura and traveled into the wolf’s body. Its body glowed with a blue hue that disappeared and reappeared several times a second.

A heartbeat later, the twitching and struggling of the wolf stopped. A bright blue light exploded from the wolf’s body.

Then the system whispered into his ears...

(You have gained a subject!)

(You have gained 15 sealing power!)

(Your level has increased!)

(Your mana reserve has increased!)

(Current Mana Reserves: 122/270)

(Current Level: 6)

Riven didn’t waste time and opened the subject tab, searching for information about the wolf. When he found it, a smile crept onto his face.

(Name: Devil Slayer Wolf.

Level: 40)

He had finally gained a powerful subject. It would make it a lot easier to survive considering most of his subjects were near him.

As he was lost in his own thoughts, the system whispered into his ears once again. The same words also flashed before his eyes.

(Your subject is requesting mana for healing their injuries)

(Accept request?)

Riven stared at the words that flashed before his eyes. He thought for a moment and said.

"Accept."

Although, his mana reserves were currently low. The wolf was severely injured practically on the verge of death — he wasn’t going to let his strongest subject die. So he accepted.

A heartbeat later, flesh began to cover its wound. Before long, the wounds covering the wolf’s entire body had disappeared like they didn’t exist in the first place.

The devil slayer had finally returned to its peak condition. Now it could protect them in his stead.

However, he was feeling very weak and he knew the reason. He stared at his remaining mana reserves.

(Mana Reserve: 65/270)

It looked like using mana manifestation multiple times was very mana-consuming. He had to rest and replenish his mana reserves.

Thankfully, he could leave the job of taking them to the river and protecting them to his subject the devil slayer now.

So Riven tilted his head, staring at Ayala who was still at the top of the tree and he shouted.

"Come down. We will use the wolf as a mount now."

Ayala didn’t say a word instead she climbed down and walked over to the devil slayer. Then she hopped on the back of the wolf. Riven gave her a nod of approval.

But before they could leave, the ground beneath them started to tremble violently. Before they knew it, the ground beneath them cracked which grew larger with every passing second.

From those cracks... black roots emerged which shot out towards them. Ayala, who was beside him, became pale and his subject’s body also trembled slightly.

Ayala whispered into his ears, her eyes widened in fear.

"The black aura of the roots is an extension of the devil of the desert’s power. That means they are close... We need to flee mister! Right now!"

Riven didn’t say a word instead he stared at the devil slayer and said.

"Run with everything you have."

If they get caught by the devils of the desert... they would certainly perish since there was no way that they were going to defeat horrors whose level was greater than 600.
