Chapter 18: Chapter 18: First Use of Inventory

Riven’s eyes narrowed not in shock, not in disbelief but instead in suspicion because elves — one of the three Great races weren’t supposed to be here.

This desert wasn’t the habitat of the elves. They usually made their city surrounded by lush green vegetation and dense forest.

He didn’t want to believe her but the urgency and fear in her voice were real. So just to be sure, he rushed towards the entrance and took a peek outside.

His expression darkened — a massive army of creatures with pointed ears, long silver hair, and sharp emerald eyes that held an almost timeless calm was moving towards them. Their entire body was clad in armor as white as milk itself.

This wasn’t all; every movement they made was graceful and fluid, carrying a quiet elegance that made even the simplest step appear effortless.

An army of elves was rapidly closing in... There was no doubt about it. Riven’s head snapped to his right and only a single sentence left his lips.

"We need to escape..."

Ayala’s face became pale. She replied with a grim voice.

"But mister, a sandstorm is approaching. If we go out then we will burn to death!"

The woman beside them replied.

"Don’t worry about that, I can take care of it."

Riven looked at her with suspicion. Did she really mean it, or was it some kind of trap? At first, he wanted to refuse but then he looked back at the massive army of elves approaching.

If they stayed here then they would meet a fate worse than death because the elves were obsessed with experimenting on human bodies.

The sandstorm made the situation even worse... if they stepped outside and the sand of the storm touched their body then they would burn to death.

He had no way out in this situation. The woman was claiming to have a way out of this situation so maybe he should accept? However, he didn’t trust the woman so maybe he shouldn’t accept?

But then again if they refused then they would die. If he accepted at least, they would get a chance to survive. Riven glared at the woman and said.

"Fine but remember betraying us won’t end well for you."

The woman smiled slightly and added.

"I only harm scums who have taken the freedom of living beings away. You saved me so I have no reason to harm you."

Riven didn’t say a word instead he signaled her to take them out of here. The woman nodded her head and started to walk towards the exit.

Just as Riven and the woman were about to step outside, Ayala’s voice resounded through their ears.

"Wait."

"What? We need to hurry otherwise the elves will spot us!"

Ayala pointed towards the bottle of water and chests full of food. Then she added,

"We need to take them with us, finding food will be almost impossible in the desert. If we take them with us then at least we won’t have to worry about food for a few days."

Riven looked at the large chest of food and dozens of bottles of water resting on the floor. There was no way that they could carry all of them. Even talking about a single chest would be enough to slow them down.

Besides in the middle of combat, these things would be easily destroyed but... He wasn’t against taking them since Ayala was right that food and water would be scarce in the desert.

The problem was how to carry them. Maybe Ayala knew it since she suggested it. So he asked.

"How are we supposed to carry these?"

Ayala didn’t reply immediately, instead, she walked towards a pot, put her palm on top of it, and a heartbeat later, the pot dissolved into countless blue particles.

Riven blinked a couple of times and then he asked.

"Where did the bottle of water go?"

The chest was also completely gone. There was no sign of it... did she destroy it? No, that didn’t make sense since she was the one who wanted to take these with them.

Besides she had a support class and the wielder of the support class possessed no combat ability. So even if she wanted to, she couldn’t destroy it.

So where did the bottle of water and chests go?

Riven glared at her and asked.

"What did you do?

Ayala looked at him in confusion and replied.

"What else, mister? I just stored it in my inventory. Now hurry up and store it in your inventory! As you said earlier, we don’t have much time!"

Riven’s eyes browned knitted together then he realized it dawned upon him. He remembered that players had the ability to store items in their inventory...

Riven thought to himself.

"How could I have forgotten about this?"

The ability to store items in their inventory was one of the greatest boons granted by the system... second only to the system awakening their class.

As he was lost in his own thoughts, Ayala shouted, her voice carrying a sense of urgency.

"Mister, what are you doing? Quickly store them in your inventory! As you said, we don’t have much time."

Riven nodded his head, his gaze sweeping across the entire room. He mentally noted every single bottle of water or chest containing food or water.

Riven got to work and as far as he remembered, he just had to touch the item and say the word ’store’ in order to store items in his inventory. He touched the surface of a bottle of water of water and mumbled.

"Store."

The bottle of water dissolved into countless blue particles and the system whispered into his ears.

(You have stored a bottle of water of water!)

Riven didn’t stop. He continued touching the surface of the things that he wanted to store in his inventory and repeating the same words.

The system continued whispering.

(You have stored a bottle of water!)

(You have stored a bottle of water!)

(You have stored a chest!)

As Riven continued storing one item after another, the woman’s voice resounded through his ears.

"Should I help?"

Riven shook his head and said without hesitation.

"No."

Riven ignored her and continued storing items in his inventory.

As he was storing items in his inventory, the entire tent shuddered as the sound of something slamming onto the wall with fierce force resounded through his ears.
