Chapter 399: Chapter 399: Killing to Silence
Claire Sinclair fast-forwarded the recording to 12:03:12 and held her breath, but nothing happened.
’That guy... was he lying to me?’
Landon Winston suddenly said, "Copy that!"
’Copy what?’
Claire Sinclair was about to ask, but she suddenly noticed he was wearing a Bluetooth headset. He must have been on a call with someone.
Following the instructions from the call, Landon Winston changed direction and headed somewhere else.
Claire Sinclair asked curiously, "Where are we going now?"
"To catch a ghost."
"..." ’I don’t get it.’
Landon Winston added, "Young Madam, hold on tight!"
"Okay!" Claire Sinclair grabbed the handle with one hand and gripped her clothes tightly with the other.
After a few minutes of driving, the car suddenly lurched. The car behind them had hit them!
Fortunately, Landon Winston swerved in time, and they only got a scrape on the rear bumper.
Claire Sinclair’s heart leaped into her throat. She said urgently, "Are they trying to get themselves killed?"
Landon Winston said in a low voice, "They’re desperados to begin with."
"You know who they are?" Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask.
Landon Winston said, "I’m not sure, but I’m certain they’re the same people who hit Captain Tanner."
"You mean Officer Tanner was also hit by a car when he got injured?"
"That’s right." As soon as the words left his mouth, Landon Winston suddenly slammed on the brakes.
"SCREECH—" The ear-piercing sound tore through the air. The powerful inertia threw Claire Sinclair’s body forward. Luckily, she was wearing her seatbelt and didn’t fly out of the car.
She was still reeling from the shock!
Claire Sinclair slowly lifted her head and looked ahead. They had stopped on an unfinished bridge. Less than a meter from the front of the car was a wide, churning river.
The car chasing them shot straight into the river...
Claire Sinclair’s eyes widened. She murmured, "How dangerous..."
Landon Winston wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked back at Claire Sinclair’s pale face. "Young Madam, are you hurt?"
"No. What about you?"
"I’m not hurt either." After confirming she was safe, Landon Winston unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.
Seeing this, Claire Sinclair got out of the car as well. She walked to the edge of the broken bridge and looked down at the massive splash in the water. Soon, two people surfaced.
"They’re still alive!" Claire Sinclair exclaimed.
Landon Winston frowned and looked around. The support team had arrived.
Hearing footsteps, Claire Sinclair looked back and saw they were all carrying guns. She couldn’t help but ask, "Who are they?"
"They’re on our side."
"Oh..." ’Thank goodness they’re on our side. Otherwise, with so many guns, we’d have been shot full of holes.’
Just as Claire Sinclair breathed a sigh of relief, Landon Winston suddenly cursed, "Damn it!"
Claire Sinclair froze for a second, then asked urgently, "What’s wrong?"
"They’re being silenced. It’s not safe here. Young Madam, please get back in the car immediately." As he spoke, Landon Winston quickly moved to her side and opened the car door for her.
"Uh, okay!" A chill ran through Claire Sinclair’s heart, and her scalp tingled. It would be a lie to say she wasn’t scared. She quickly got back into the car.
Before getting in, she glanced curiously at the river’s surface. All she could see was the water turning red; the figures were gone.
Clearly, something had happened to those two.
Landon Winston also got into the car and started heading home.

The moment Claire Sinclair walked into Quincy Manor, Adrian Quincy came out to meet her, pulling her into his arms.
As she listened to his racing heartbeat gradually steady, the anxiety in Claire Sinclair’s own heart finally subsided. "Mr. Quincy, it was so dangerous on the way back just now!"
