Chapter 392: Chapter 392: Groundless Talk

Tristan Tanner said, "Okay, just copy it and send it to my phone. You can find me on WeChat with my number. It’s too late now, so don’t bother coming over."

Claire Sinclair nodded. "Okay, I’ll send it right after we hang up."

After hanging up, Claire Sinclair immediately added Tristan Tanner on WeChat and sent him the recording.

Now, all she could do was wait.

When she returned to Evergreen Garden that night, Claire Sinclair was a mess of emotions. She had no appetite for dinner, so she showered and went straight to bed. But she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

After a sleepless night, she was too exhausted to get out of bed in the morning. Her body ached, her head felt heavy, and just like that, her health had collapsed.

Lying helplessly in bed, Claire Sinclair grabbed her phone and texted Mr. Quincy, "I think I’m sick."

Adrian Quincy: What’s wrong?

Claire: I think I have a fever.

Adrian Quincy: Where are you?

Claire: At home. I can’t get out of bed.

Adrian Quincy: I’m heading back right now. Lie still and don’t move around.

Claire: Okay.

She knew it was an imposition, but at that moment, she needed him with her.

It would take him some time to get there from Quincy Manor. Unable to wait, Claire logged onto social media.

The moment she logged on, she saw that the number of hateful comments had already surpassed a million. Some clout-chasing accounts had even started a trending topic to get more engagement: #ClaireSinclairDefendsTheOtherWoman.

After brewing overnight, the topic had shot to the number one trending spot.

To get more attention, one clout-chasing account had somehow dug up a list of Claire Sinclair’s assets, revealing her total income to be over 100 million.

This included a property in Evergreen Garden with its source of funds listed as "unknown," as well as an unexplained two-million payment, which they alleged was a fee from Harrison Lynch for the cover-up.

Claire Sinclair found it ridiculous. These accusations were utterly baseless!

Even though she knew no one would believe her if she tried to clear her name now, Claire Sinclair posted a statement anyway:

1. The property in Evergreen Garden was purchased in my name by the man I love. He paid for all of it; I didn’t contribute a single cent.

2. The 20 million was for the copyright fees for my novel, *What If I Want to Break Up With You Today, Too?*

3. The 5 million was for the copyright fees for my novel, *Senluo, Senluo, Please Don’t Say Goodbye to the World!*

4. The 5 million was compensation paid to me by Mr. Ethan Kingsley on behalf of M2L.

5. The 2 million was the survivor’s benefit left to me by my sister.

6. The 1.5 million is from digital royalties for my novels, and the remaining small amounts are my salary from the newspaper.

7. As for the other large sums of money you mentioned, I have no idea where you got those figures from. All I know is I never received any of it.

...

Claire Sinclair only explained the sources of her income, making no mention of Yvonne Judd.

After she posted the statement, just as she’d expected, the wave of online attacks resumed. Practically no one believed her.

Claire couldn’t be bothered to explain any further. Curious, she opened the official social media page for the Aethelgard Central Police Department.

They had only posted two notices in the last day. The first was a wanted notice and an announcement of the capture of several other accomplices in a rape case. The second was a notice about the discovery of the body of a middle-aged man with the surname Li, reminding the public not to spread rumors.

Aside from the wanted notice, all other announcements used pseudonyms.

The circumstances surrounding Harrison Lynch’s death were suspicious. A crowd of onlookers had gathered by the time police arrived the previous night, which was why they were forced to issue a statement. However, with the case still unsolved, regulations prevented them from revealing further details.

In short, both notices were related to Yvonne Judd. Unfortunately, besides Claire and a handful of other people, no one knew the truth.

It looked like she would have to endure the public condemnation for some time yet.
