Chapter 356: Chapter 356: I Was Worried I Couldn’t Find You
Claire Sinclair crumpled the letter into a ball, threw it in the trash, and then ran out of the villa.
As she passed through the sea of flowers, she happened to spot a cradle nestled in the bushes. Inside lay a wailing baby.
It was the baby boy she had risked her life to save!
Claire Sinclair hurried over and picked the baby up.
Seeing the baby wave his tiny fists and cry his heart out, Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but think of the child she had lost, and an unbearable pain tore through her heart.
’If only my child were still alive...’
’Seriously, what am I thinking!’
Claire Sinclair glanced around. There wasn’t a soul in sight. A chill ran down her spine, and she quickly clutched the baby and ran out of the sea of flowers.
-
A yellow taxi pulled up to the entrance of Quincy Manor.
Claire Sinclair stepped out of the car, an incessantly crying baby in her arms, and rushed to the entrance of Quincy Manor.
By now, the presidential candidate’s event would have ended long ago. She didn’t know if he was back yet, but waiting for him at Quincy Manor was definitely the right move.
As she reached the manor gate, Aiden Howkins was just stepping out of the guardhouse. "Young Madam," he said in surprise, "where have you been all day? And what’s going on with this baby?"
"Didn’t I send you a video this morning? This is the baby from that video. I went out to bring him back."
"What about those people?" Aiden Howkins asked.
Claire Sinclair shook her head. "They knocked me out when I got there. By the time I woke up, they were gone. I don’t know why, but they didn’t kill me."
Aiden Howkins studied her eyes, searching for any sign of discomfort, but he could find no trace that she was lying.
’Oh well,’ he thought. ’She can explain it to Young Master Quincy herself.’
"Young Master Quincy has been worried sick. You should hurry inside."
"Okay. Please take the baby back to his family. He must be starving."
"Leave it to me." Aiden Howkins carefully took the baby into his arms.
Claire Sinclair hurried into the manor, walked straight to his office, and knocked on the door.
She waited for a long moment, but there was no response...
’Is he not in there?’
Claire Sinclair cautiously pushed the door open. Sure enough, no one was inside.
’He must be on the second floor, then.’
Claire Sinclair turned and went up to the second floor. As she approached the study, she saw that the door was ajar.
A glance inside revealed Adrian Quincy sitting at his desk. Her laptop, "Little White," sat on the desk in front of him. His eyes were locked on the screen, staring intently at a dense grid of surveillance feeds.
Claire Sinclair stepped inside and said tentatively, "Mr. Quincy, I’m back."
As if by instinct, Adrian Quincy shot to his feet, crossed the room in a few quick strides, and pulled her forcefully into his arms. "Claire, don’t you ever go off on your own like that again. I was so worried when I couldn’t find you."
"Uh..." Feeling guilty, Claire Sinclair didn’t know what to say.
He held her for a moment before loosening his grip, lowering his head to kiss her. The kiss was frantic, filled with anxiety, and soon her own breathing became just as ragged.
Gasping for air, she had to push him away. She looked up into his dark eyes. "I’m completely fine. See for yourself if you don’t believe me!"
Adrian Quincy’s cold eyes narrowed. In a low voice, he said, "Hand over what you bought at The Bitter Sea."
"Huh?"
"I’m confiscating it."
"How could you—"
Before Claire Sinclair could protest, a look of displeasure had already clouded Adrian Quincy’s eyes.
Claire Sinclair pouted and muttered under her breath, "It’s not like I did anything wrong..."
