Chapter 27: The Great Me.
Leon looked at Sylas’s joyful expression, as a satisfied smile tugged at his lips. He directed his hand to pat the boy, but Kael suddenly grabbed his hand.
His gaze shifted toward Kael and he noticed faint traces of mana flowing from his body. Though the aura was subtle, it carried enough pressure to make Leon feel a chill run down his spine.
Kael shook his head gently, as he muttered silently. "Don’t disturb him while he’s eating."
Pain shot through Leon’s hand, and quickly traveled through his whole arm.
He quickly withdrew his hand, grabbed it with his other hand as a small tear appeared at the corner of his eye.
He started rubbing his hand in order to reduce the pain, and while doing that a thought rang inside his head. ’Monster!! I repeat once again, he’s a monster!!’
"Serve me food." Kael said, voice firm.
Leon’s back straightened up as he quickly made his way towards the food and started serving it to Kael.
He filled Kael’s plate with various dishes before finally setting it down in front of him. Once he was done serving, his gaze shifted to Kael, anticipation flickering in his eyes as he waited to see whether Kael liked the food or not.
Without saying anything, Kael lifted a slice of meat and dipped it into the gravy which was kept near him and took a bite.
As he chewed the bite, there wasn’t any visible change in his expression. His usual calm demeanour stayed intact.
But on the other hand, Leon was waiting for any kind of appreciation he could get from Kael for the food which he cooked.
He remained standing there for a while, minutes began to pass as the food on Kael’s plate almost disappeared.
Time passed, and before long, Kael finished his meal. He placed the cutlery neatly onto the plate before rising from his seat.
He turned toward the kitchen and made his way there to wash his hands. After finishing, he returned to the dining room. As he stepped inside, he paused for a moment in the middle of the room and shifted his gaze toward Leon, who was still standing beside the dining table.
Leon’s gaze was fixed onto the ground, a visible expression of sadness was on his face. ’He at least could’ve said a simple ’It’s good’, right?’
A faint smile appeared on Kael’s face, he walked towards the garden but before he left his voice filled inside the chamber. "Food wasn’t that bad, next time try to cook something better."
He took a small pause, crossed his arms and continued. "The meat was that of a boar, where did you get it from?"
A bright smile tugged at the corner of Leon’s lips, he leaned forward slightly. "The great me went to the jungle and did a hunt for it,"
He pointed a thumb toward his chest and puffed it out slightly.
"Well, of course you’d notice, sir. The great me was the one who cooked it, after all." He let out a small cough before looking away.
"And please don’t think of it as something you owe me for. I was simply returning the favour for what you did earlier, sir."
A vein popped on Kael’s forehead, as he clenched his fists. He tried not to lose his composure, but then he finally said. "Eat your food, and go wash the dishes."
A sudden sense of disbelief hit Leon like a hurricane, he instantly grabbed his chest. "Ouch!! Such a cold-hearted person you are, mansion lord."
Without saying a word, Kael walked over to him and lightly brought his fist down on Leon’s head.
Bonk.
"Enough with the nonsense," he said flatly.
Leon’s hand travelled to his head, as he grabbed it. Small beads of tears welled in his eyes, and a small groan left through his mouth. "Ughhh!!! That’s totally unfair, mansion lord."
Without paying any kind of attention to him, Kael made his way outside where Sylas was playing.
His gaze fell on Sylas who was sitting next to the tree, making a small castle out of the mud.
A gentle smile appeared on Kael’s lips as he walked toward the chair beneath the shade of the tree and took a seat, enjoying the peaceful evening.
Time passed as the light of day slowly started to fade, the bright light of the moon descended over the ground, as the slow breeze remained constant.
Kael’s head turned towards the tree, he simply stared at it for a while until Leon’s voice fell inside his ears.
"My lord, why are you staring at that tree?" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
He took a small pause, he placed his palm over his mouth and muttered gently. "Are you trying to get rid of it?"
No kind of response came through Kael, a while passed as silence fell over the garden. The only sounds in the surroundings were the breeze and Sylas’s chuckles.
But then he finally broke the silence. "The wind today is kinda suspicious."
Leon tilted his head, a sense of confusion lingered over his face. "What do you mean by that?"
"You don’t have to worry about that. Just head into the city tomorrow and carry out your patrol." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Leon’s eyes flickered in confusion as he tried to process what he had just heard. The words seemed so unexpected that he stared at Kael for a moment before finally speaking.
"What do you mean by carry out the patrol?" he asked.
