Chapter 24: I Want The Bounty’s.
He started walking towards the couple, and the moment he reached them, he noticed that there were still some trails of mana mixture remaining on their body.
Without saying a word, he released his mana and directed it toward the mixture. The crimson energy surged forward and engulfed it.
The moment it made contact, his mana began to neutralise the mixture, slowly unravelling it as though it were deciphering a complex code. The process continued for several moments, the two energies clashing with each other.
Then, once its task was complete, his mana withdrew from the mixture and shot back toward him, flowing into his body once again.
A smirk tugged on his lips, gaze shifted towards the count. "That priest had taken absolute control over your mind and body."
"Your consciousness was working for him, that’s why you don’t remember anything related to that."
Count’s expression started to darken, and the sweat started to roll down his cheek as he clenched his hair. "F-f-fuck..."
"Did I support ’the black order’?"
He took a small pause and then slapped both of his cheeks. "H-how dare a vessel of his majesty cause a treason?" His voice stuttered, and he felt as if it carried the pain of disappointment within.
’Such a foolish, yet loyal fellow.’
A small sigh escaped through Kael’s mouth as he crossed his arms, and Sylas remained sleeping inside his arms. "Enough with that. You were under another’s control. The shame belongs to those who manipulated you, not to you."
A heavy silence fell over the room. The countess still lay unconscious on the slab, while the count remained frozen in place, unable to overcome the guilt and sense of betrayal weighing on his heart.
But then, Kael finally decided to break the silence. "If you truly want to lessen the burden of this grudge, then take these pests and deliver every last one of them to the Imperial Army."
Kael turned towards the door and started walking towards it. But before he could reach it, the count’s voice fell inside his ears.
"W-wait!"
Kael turned his head slightly and looked at the count who had wiped the sweat off his face.
"What is it?" ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"U-uh... is there any way in which we can repay you?"
"I don’t want to let you go empty-handed after saving us from the black order and preventing us from committing treason."
Kael stood there for a while without saying anything, but then a smile appeared on his face. A thought lingered inside his head. ’Perfect opportunity for me to get a hefty amount of money, and get the warrant for my mansion.’
"I recently built a mansion on the outskirts of the forest. I don’t want to be bothered again by your soldiers claiming that I built it illegally."
"And also, the bounty on these people’s heads, I want all of that."
Count’s eyes widened a bit, but then out of nowhere, a smile tugged his lips. "That’s it? Consider it done, benefactor." His voice carried a strange enthusiasm within it.
After that, Kael walked out through the exit and slowly made his way toward the outside of the castle. When he entered the room filled with portraits, his gaze travelled across the walls.
A slight frown appeared on his face as he noticed that the portrait of the strange goddess was no longer there.
’The portrait isn’t there, huh?’
"Well, that’s not something which I’ll care about." He muttered as he started walking towards the castle’s door.
When he left the castle, his gaze still kept travelling across the city. He noticed that the city was still empty, but the shops were still open.
The people of the black order weren’t there anymore; it felt as if they all got to know about the death of the high priest and left.
But a strange thought suddenly appeared inside his mind. ’This order might be a bit more cursed than it seems to be.’
A sigh left through his mouth as he patted Sylas’s head gently and kept walking towards the forest.
He kept walking until he reached his mansion, and travelled inside as if nothing ever happened.
When he entered, he noticed Leon sweeping the floor. The clothes he was wearing were different from the ones he had on earlier.
Kael’s gaze then swept toward a corner of the yard, where a long clothesline had been strung up. The clothes belonging to all three of them hung from it, swaying gently as they dried in the air.
Leon’s gaze was fixed on the ground, but it shifted towards Kael the moment he heard him enter. He noticed that Sylas was laying gently in his grasp.
Soon after, a sigh of relief escaped through his mouth as he muttered. "I was worried sick because of him,
His eyes started to well up with tears, as a smile appeared on his face. "I hope he’s all well."
Without uttering a word, Kael started walking towards the hall. He walked inside without sparing Leon a second glance, as though nothing had happened to him and everything was perfectly normal.
Leon’s gaze trailed Kael for a while, but then a thought erupted inside his mind. ’Wow... I protected Sylas and got hurt badly. He didn’t even spare me a glance, nor did he bother asking whether I was alright or not.’
