Chapter 337: Chapter 314: Meeting Parents [End of Volume 6]
In the few days after Nie Yun thrashed the Divine Holy Empire’s Emperor, Huangg Ling, a plague-like phenomenon swept through Guangming City. Every night, several ministers and their entire families were annihilated. In their vast manors, not even a chicken or a dog was left alive—everything was killed!
However, this "plague" was confined to certain ministers and had little to do with the common folk, so it didn’t spark widespread panic. It did, however, become a juicy topic of conversation passed from person to person.
Inside Hongyang Building, the grandest tavern in the Divine Holy Empire, the crowd was bustling, and talk of the major events that had shaken the Imperial Capital over the past few days was everywhere.
"It’s terrifying! I heard that this young man, Nie Yun, used to be just some nobody from a remote town in the Divine Wind Empire. Who would’ve thought he’d be so incredible? Not only did he reach the Secret Realm, but he also sent the Royal Family’s Huangg Chen Ancestor flying with a single punch!"
"What do you mean, one punch? It was one slash of a sword that sent him flying! Huangg Chen Ancestor, an old monster who reached the Secret Realm ages ago, suffered such a major defeat yet didn’t say a single word in the end. He just tucked his tail between his legs and scurried off!"
"And what does that tell you? It means His Majesty Nie Yun’s power is so immense that the Huangg Chen Ancestor was no match for him at all!"
"That’s all old news. Have you guys heard? Last night, the entire household of the Minister of Finance, Zhang Luo, was wiped out! From the oldest to the youngest, not a single person was spared!"
"Good riddance! That Zhang Luo was a villain through and through; he should have died long ago. If he wasn’t so powerful, I would’ve wanted to take care of him myself!"
"Yeah, death was too good for him. Not only was he arrogant, but his sons were rotten to the core, too. They bullied the common folk and never did a single good deed. If they’re dead, they’re dead. They don’t deserve an ounce of sympathy!"
"I’m not talking about whether they deserved sympathy. I’m talking about the cause of their deaths!"
"The cause of death? Hasn’t the Empire already posted a notice? It said Zhang Luo openly committed treason and was eliminated by imperial soldiers..."
"Are you an idiot? That’s not what happened at all. Zhang Luo was one of Emperor Huangg Ling’s closest confidants, why would the Emperor kill him? I heard it was that Nie Yun fellow who did it. He’s the one who’s been killing all these ministers, a dozen or so in the last few days. His Majesty Huangg Ling has no other choice but to take the blame or claim it was a plague, just to keep people from panicking!"
"What? Lord Yun killed them? That can’t be possible!"
"It is! I heard those ministers were part of some evil organization that once tried to harm Lord Yun’s family. That’s what set him off and made him act! Wherever he strikes, not a chicken or dog is spared, and not a blade of grass is left standing! He’s truly ruthless!"
"Of course Lord Yun is ruthless! You didn’t see it that day. His Majesty Huangg Ling was held by the young man and slapped across the face again and again. His face was so swollen... Tsk, tsk, I don’t think a water vat is that big..."
Inside the tavern, every table was abuzz with hushed discussions about the strange events of the past few days, and the name on everyone’s lips was the young man called Nie Yun.
This young man was like a meteor streaking across the sky, appearing out of nowhere and shining with a brilliance no one could hope to match.
At a table in the farthest corner of the tavern, two men and two women sat listening to the rampant speculation around them, their eyes wide as if they were in a dream.
"Brother Xiaotian, do you think what they’re saying is true? This Nie Yun they’re talking about... is he really your son?"
A middle-aged man with thick, dark eyebrows asked the man across from him.
This man was about forty years old, with a heroic air about him. His strength was at the Peak of Qi Sect, and he possessed a commanding presence.
"I don’t know either," the man replied. "But Xiaotong sent word for us to return to Guangming City, that we no longer need to hide. If it weren’t for Xiaoyun, I doubt we would be safe so soon! You know as well as I do that the ones who captured us were major figures in the Divine Holy Empire!"
The middle-aged man was also confused, rubbing his temples, not knowing what to say.
"I still can’t believe it. The Nie Yun they’re talking about is a Secret Realm Powerhouse. Even if Nie Yun is a genius, there’s no way he could have jumped from the Armor Realm to the Secret Realm in just over three months. That... How is that possible!"
The middle-aged man with the thick, dark eyebrows still looked utterly unconvinced.
"To be honest, it’s not just you. I’m completely baffled myself. I always knew Xiaoyun would be extraordinary one day, but... the Secret Realm? I still can’t bring myself to believe it!"
The second middle-aged man said with a helpless expression.
These two men were none other than Nie Yun’s father, Nie Xiaotian, and Luoo Zhanhao, City Lord Luoo! The two women sitting with them were Nie Yun’s mother and sister.
They had come after receiving a message from Nie Tong. However, for safety’s sake, the four of them had not gone directly to the meeting point. Instead, they had donned disguises. Their original plan was just to enter the tavern to get a sense of the situation, but they had unintentionally overheard all of this.
"The two of you—one is the City Lord of Luoshui City, and the other was once called the number one genius of Luoshui City. You’ve always been so sensible, so what’s gotten into you now? Do you think I don’t know my own son? My son, even if he improves quickly, reaching the Qi Sect by now would already be impressive. A Secret Realm Powerhouse... heh. To be honest, today is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing. It’s definitely not the same person!"
Seeing the two men agonizing over it, the mother, Nie Ling, laughed from her seat.
The Qi Sea Continent was immeasurably vast. Who knew how many people shared the same name? The Divine Holy Empire was an unknown distance from the Divine Wind Empire, so it wasn’t surprising that another genius named Nie Yun might emerge.
’If every genius was her son, she’d have far too many of them.’
"You’re right. We were overthinking things..."
Hearing Nie Ling’s rebuke, the two men nodded in unison, looking ashamed.
"Haha! Did you hear that? These two ignorant fools actually claim that Lord Yun is his son! How ridiculous!" a young man suddenly exclaimed, pointing at Nie Xiaotian’s group and roaring with laughter.
