Chapter 373: Chapter 240: The Du Family’s Golden Core (3)

Du Haixian’s eyes burned like torches as he stared directly at Du Leishi.

"Regarding your Core Formation, how are the preparations coming along? The family’s resources are at your disposal. Is there anything you still need?"

Du Leishi stood ramrod straight. At his father’s words, a slight frown creased his stern face as he replied in a deep voice.

"Father, during the last demon-quelling campaign in You Province, I had a fortuitous encounter. I managed to extract a wisp of Cyan Lotus Earth Core Fire from a thousand-year-old Earth Fire Lotus. After some preliminary Refinement, it might serve as my Golden Core Dao Fire."

"However, even with the Dao Fire prepared, I have been unable to find a suitable Golden Core Blessed Land. The quality of the Blessed Land determines the upper limits of my cultivation path, so I must be cautious. The Spiritual Qi in ordinary Earth Veins is too thin, and the Evil Qi is insufficient. If I were to force Core Formation, I’m afraid I would only form a Low-Grade Core. That would sever my future path, to say nothing of my ambition for the Jiedu Envoy position..." Du Leishi’s hawk-like eyes glinted.

Du Haixian waved a dismissive hand. "Enough nonsense. Get to the point."

Du Leishi gave an awkward smile.

"I’ve heard the Cyan Cloud Sect possesses a certain secret Blessed Land. Father, could you perhaps... see if they would do me a favor?"

"Absurd! The Du Family and the Cyan Cloud Sect have always been at odds. Our conflict over our cultivation paths is as irreconcilable as fire and water. Why would those old fools from the Cyan Cloud Sect ever agree?" Du Haixian cursed.

Du Leishi didn’t dare even breathe.

After a long moment, Du Haixian let out a long sigh.

"Fine. I will see if I can ask some friends at court to put in a good word."

Du Leishi was overjoyed. "Thank you, Father!"

Du Haixian stroked his beard in contemplation, mulling over what other hidden connections the family could leverage.

Just then, a clear, cold, yet urgent female voice pierced through layers of Restrictions, echoing clearly into the hall.

"Ye Qingxuan, Daoist of the Cyan Cloud Sect, has come to request medicine! I pray Patriarch Du will grant me an audience!"

A trace of surprise flashed in Du Haixian’s eyes.

Du Leishi’s head snapped up, his gaze darting like lightning toward the hall’s entrance as the aura around him instantly tensed.

"The Daoist of the Cyan Cloud Sect?" Du Haixian raised an eyebrow, his expression turning inscrutable. He let out a cold laugh.

"What a timely coincidence."

"Lei Shi, accompany me to meet this honored guest."

Du Leishi was elated. "As you command!"

...

A silver light flashed. Ye Qingxuan appeared before a range of magnificent, steep mountains, cradling the unconscious Qin Xuan in her arms.

It was a colossal, jet-black cliff, sheer as a mirror and soaring into the clouds as if an Immortal had carved it from the mountain with a single stroke of a sword.

In the dead of night, specks of spiritual light dotted the cliffside. The vine-like Spiritual Plants clinging to the rock face emanated a soft, cyan glow, creating a spectacular sight.

Ye Qingxuan took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the churning qi and blood within her. Her face was etched with fatigue and desperation.

"Ye Daozi of the Cyan Cloud Sect has graced us with her presence. Forgive my failure to greet you properly."

Just then, a gentle, aged voice drifted toward her.

The next moment, the cyan vines on the Profound Cliff writhed as if alive, parting to form a path.

An old man with a refined, scholarly face and a full head of white hair and a matching beard appeared at the cliff’s edge. He was dressed in a cyan brocade robe.

The aura he exuded was gentle, in perfect harmony with nature.

"Greetings, Patriarch Du." Ye Qingxuan’s eyes lit up. She cupped her hands in a salute, her voice filled with urgency.

"This is an emergency, and I apologize for the intrusion. My friend here suffered a backlash from the Demon Sect’s Power of the Golden Evil. The foundation of his heart meridian is damaged, and his life hangs by a thread."

"I have long heard that the Du Family’s Yi Wood Evergreen Skill is profound and without equal, particularly in the arts of healing and life extension. I implore you, Patriarch Du, to lend us your aid. Both the Cyan Cloud Sect and I, Ye Qingxuan, would be eternally grateful!"

The hand Du Haixian was using to stroke his beard paused. His gaze swept over Ye Qingxuan before finally settling on the man in her arms, Qin Xuan. He let out a soft chuckle.

"Ye Daozi, it is not that I am unwilling to help. But your esteemed Sect and my Du Family are rivals on the path of cultivation... Furthermore, the Golden Evil Qi inside your friend is exceptionally tyrannical and fierce. It is also entangled with a bizarre Talisman Power that has already invaded his organs and Divine Soul. An injury of this severity... I’m afraid..."

"Rest assured, Patriarch Du. I, Qingxuan, guarantee that my presence here has nothing to do with my Sect."

Looking at Ye Qingxuan’s determined and pleading gaze, Du Haixian sighed softly.

"Very well. My ancestor, Elder Xuan Ya of the Du Family, once received guidance from a Venerable of the previous generation of the Cyan Cloud Sect. A sliver of that old connection still remains. Bring him to the Cyan Wood Spirit Residence for now."

"I will do what I can, but whether he can be saved will depend on his own fortune."

"Thank you, Patriarch Du!" A flicker of hope ignited in Ye Qingxuan’s eyes as she hastily expressed her gratitude.

Du Haixian nodded and waved his sleeve.

A gentle cyan light enveloped Qin Xuan, guiding Ye Qingxuan as they transformed into two streaks of light and vanished into the depths of the plant-covered Profound Cliff.
