Chapter 302: Chapter 301: Harvest of Equipment

The remains underground were so disgusting that Colin wasn’t in the mood to rummage through them. Kase and Ale, however, were happy to take a look, and they were the ones who had unearthed all these items.

First was the loot recovered from the Demons.

Although a Demon’s body would quickly turn into a puddle of black sludge upon death, their equipment and items remained. However, once deprived of the Demon’s Mana, these leftover items were no different from things made in the Mortal World.

The most valuable of these items was the chain from the Chain Demon. Though it had lost its Magic Power, it still held a lingering evil aura. It might be of some use if they took it back to Donkexes.

Next was the equipment from the Beard Demon, such as its Long-Handled Blade and Wrist Guards.

Once separated from the Demon, this equipment was no different from gear forged by mortals. They could just be sold off later.

Besides these items, the Demons had also managed to get their hands on a suit of Plate Armor from somewhere.

Colin lifted the bundled suit of Plate Armor from the pile of gear.

It was a complete suit of Plate Armor.

Of course, calling it Plate Armor was a bit of a stretch. Compared to the perfectly fitted, full-body Plate Armor worn by true nobles, this suit was rather crude. It would be more accurate to call it "transitional plate."

Compared to the one Colin was wearing, this suit’s Chest Guard offered a smaller area of protection.

In addition, the equipment included Armed Clothing, a Chain Armor lining, plate Arm Guards, Leg Guards, and Greaves fastened by leather straps, as well as a Dog-faced Helmet with a liftable Face Mask and a pair of Funnel-shaped Gloves.

This suit of Armor probably hadn’t been maintained for some time. Its surface was dull, and rust had appeared in some places. It only looked a bit better after Ale treated it with a [Repair Technique].

Colin shoved the Armor into a corner of the carriage with a CLANG.

The whole set was very heavy, weighing nearly forty-four pounds.

Furthermore, this type of Armor required a full suit of Armed Clothing to be worn. Due to its limited coverage, it also needed various pieces of Chain Armor for protection, which is why it was also known as Plated Chain Armor.

The Armor bore no noble crest. It felt like an outdated set bought by some Mercenary who had money, but not that much. As such, there was no way to trace it back to its original owner.

Therefore, according to the unwritten rules of Adventurers, the Armor was now Colin and his party’s spoils of war.

To be honest, Colin could use this Armor himself.

The only problem was that the Funnel-shaped Gloves and Metal Plate Armor would severely restrict his movements. Insisting on Casting while wearing it would likely be very difficult.

But that was a matter for another time.

In any case, Colin was determined to get a new Helmet. The Beard Demon’s strike to the back of his neck a few days ago had left a lasting impression on him.

It was strange, though, that the Demons hadn’t worn this Plate Armor.

Colin guessed it was probably because Chain Demons and Beard Demons didn’t typically fight in Armor, so they wouldn’t bother wearing it after coming to the Mortal World, lest it hinder their movements. It was also possible that wearing Plate Armor would interfere with the Beard Demons’ tentacle-beard attacks... In any case, there were surely plenty of reasons.

As for the real reason, perhaps only the Demons themselves knew.

After shoving the Armor into the carriage, Colin picked up the last piece of loot from the ground. It was a Leaf Hammer.

The hammer itself was beautiful.

The head of the Leaf Hammer was silver, composed of several vertical flanges. A thin, golden trim ran along the head, which had a complex structure, like a blooming flower.

[Dawn Messenger / Non-Ordinary Magical Item]

[Damage: 2-9]

[Divine Protection: Weapon Damage and hit chance +1]

[Dawn Light: The Leaf Hammer emits light in a three-meter radius. When the wielder uses Healing Magic, the amount healed is increased by 1-4 points. This effect lasts for one minute and can be used once per day.]

’This hammer would have been perfect for Orelia...’

"Orelia sacrificed herself for mortals, didn’t she? So why can’t mortals tolerate her?!"

Just as Colin was thinking this, Ale’s complaining voice reached his ears.

He turned to see her hugging her small backpack, staring intently at the bed inside the carriage.

The few people moving things nearby stopped in their tracks.

Kase and the others looked completely bewildered. They still didn’t know why they were in such a hurry to leave.

The dean, standing to one side, sighed.

He spoke up. "Perfect. I’ll see you off, Lady Golden Flame and gentlemen."

Kase and Colin exchanged a look.

Colin shrugged helplessly, while Kase asked in confusion, "Who’s Lady Golden Flame?"

"Golden Flame is Ale’s last name. You’re really..." Colin said, exasperated.

After stowing all the luggage, the group moved the unconscious Orelia onto the carriage. The dean then sat at the front, cracking the whip to get the horses moving.

The children who had just been playing with Kase all gathered around.

Even the orphans who were still in the classroom studying crowded at the windows, their bright eyes fixed on the slowly departing carriage.

Perhaps the Priest in the classroom gave them permission, or perhaps the children simply couldn’t hold back any longer. A crowd of them scrambled out of the classroom.

Carrying all sorts of small toys, they came up to the group and unceremoniously began stuffing them into their pockets and hands, all chattering at once.

Colin could only vaguely make out some children asking him to come back and visit, and others saying they wanted to become Adventurers in the future to help him... It was mostly a chaotic jumble of childish words.

They couldn’t understand how powerful the Demons were, but they knew they had been saved by these "good friends of Orelia" who had arrived a few days ago.

The crowd of children only began to disperse after the dean started shooing them away.

When the group hadn’t gone far, the children all stood at the gate and began to sing a hymn of the Morninglord to see them off.

Colin looked back.

He looked at the children standing at the Monastery gate.

The sunlight shone on their youthful faces, and their white clothes seemed to glow in the brilliant light.

The scene was a stark contrast to the view in the Bone Repository Hall a few days prior.

’How should I put it... This scene feels like the most valuable reward from this whole trip,’ Colin thought to himself.

Once they were too far away to see the Monastery, the atmosphere in the group dropped to a freezing point.

Battier and Morne led their ponies, while Colin and the others stood around the carriage.

The atmosphere in the group was somewhat awkward.

Even though Ale kept a straight face, everyone could more or less sense that the young girl was furious—after all, her face was flushed red as if she’d been stung by a bee.

The dean said quietly, "Have you heard of the Great Debate in the Holy City Cadopolis twenty years ago?"

"I’ve heard of it," Colin said frankly. "It refers to the great debate within the Church of Morninglord, which ended with a group of Paladins and Priests leaving to form the Holy Judge Alliance. They should still be in the southeast now, fighting on the front lines against evil."
