Chapter 285: Chapter 284: Preparing for the Worst

"Alright, I’ll go get those two now," White Eagle said. He then walked out of the warehouse and strode outside.

Seeing White Eagle leave, Ale and Kase came over to help look for supplies.

Only Orelia stood there, looking dazed and a little lost.

Once they had gathered all the necessary supplies, Colin laid everything out on the table.

In total, there were four Antidotes, four Healing Potions, four bottles of Sacred Oil, and four Potions of Protection from Evil and Good.

It was worth noting that Magic Potions with lasting effects could have adverse reactions with one another. If someone drank a second long-lasting Magic Potion while the first was still active, only the heavens knew what would happen next.

Colin had read accounts of explosions, transformations, poisoning, and more—and ninety-nine percent of those cases didn’t end well.

That was why most High-tier Adventurers, when preparing for battle, would typically only bring one long-lasting Potion suited for their impending enemy, one Sword Oil, and multiple Healing Potions.

Colin said, "Orelia, bring out everything you made with the herbs. I want to take a good look at how many consumables we have left."

Orelia nodded and placed several clay pots and four smoky glass bottles on the table.

The pots contained a simple salve made from herbs like Plantain, while the bottles were Purple Mushroom Smoke Bombs, crafted from Purple Mushrooms and vials purchased at an apothecary.

[Purple Mushroom Smoke Bomb / Ordinary Item]

[Smoke Burst: Creates a three-meter radius cloud of smoke when the bottle is broken.]

These could be a huge help when outnumbered, perfect for sowing chaos or obscuring the enemy’s vision.

Another key item was a Smoke Bomb. At the right moment, something like that could be a game-changer.

"Here, take my two Healing Potions," Ale offered. "And this Sacred Oil that Yuri gave me last time—I never used it. I won’t need Sword Oil unless things get really strange."

As Colin was thinking, Ale spoke up.

She then took her two Healing Potions and placed them on the table.

"We can’t just take those for free. Even among comrades, it’s best if things are kept fair." As he spoke, Colin pulled out over thirty Gold Coins and handed them to Ale. The other two quickly followed suit.

Ale licked her lips but ultimately accepted the money.

With that, counting the ones left over from before, the party now had ten Healing Potions.

Looking at all the bottles and jars on the table, Colin marveled to himself, ’I’ve never been this well-equipped for a fight!’

Just then, the sound of clanking metal came from the doorway.

White Eagle walked in, leading two other men.

A closer look revealed them to be the same two fully-armored Guards from outside.

’Is the Church really this short-staffed?’ Colin grumbled to himself.

"Both of them have undergone rigorous combat training," White Eagle said. "In a worst-case scenario, they are completely trustworthy."

Colin sized them up.

Their gear was identical.

They each wore Half-plate Armor and a Charell Helmet, along with impressive Plank Arm Guards and Funnel-shaped Gloves. Their lower bodies were protected by perfectly fitted Metal Leg Armor and Greaves.

’This whole set can’t be cheap,’ Colin thought.

’I don’t remember the Guards at the Church entrance being this lavishly equipped last time I was here.’

"They’ve brought their own Healing Potions and such," White Eagle continued. "Do you need more weapons? While there’s no Magic Equipment in this warehouse, we have plenty of Ordinary weapons and Armor."

"That won’t be necessary. Of course, if you’d let us take them to sell for a profit, that’d be a different story."

White Eagle just stared at him.

"Just kidding," Colin said with a shrug.

He glanced around at the equipment in the room.

There were a couple of Plate Armor Chest Guards, but their quality was poor—nothing compared to the Bronze Breastplate he was currently wearing.

None of the weapons were worth asking for, either. Colin’s own arsenal was already quite comprehensive, enough to handle any situation.

The rest of the party didn’t really need more Armor or weapons either.

Since they didn’t need anything else, Colin started distributing the supplies and packing up.

The ten Healing Potions and two Weak Healing Potions were divided among the four party members.

Each of them took two Healing Potions, with the two Weak Healing Potions going to Colin and Kase. The two Guards already had their own Healing Potions, so they didn’t need any.

White Eagle produced a few more Potions of Protection from Evil and Good and Antidotes to ensure everyone had one of each.

Everyone except Orelia got a bottle of Sword Oil, while the two Guards each took an extra bottle of Sacred Oil.

The two of them didn’t have Magic Weapons, so their Damage would be significantly lower without Sword Oil.

As for the smoke bombs, each party member took one. The Smoke Bomb remained with Colin.

While packing, Colin suddenly remembered something.

He took out the Signal Flare Yuri had given him and asked White Eagle, "Will this thing be of any use?"

"It’s just a signaling device, like a firework. If the situation is as you’ve described, it probably won’t be very useful," White Eagle said.

Colin nodded and put it away.

Looking at his Medicated Bandage, now half-stuffed with supplies, he suddenly felt armed to the teeth. A little more confidence bloomed in his heart.

"Lastly, there’s this," White Eagle said. "These are some relatively high-grade Magic Scrolls. I remember you’re a Mage, correct? Can you cast Tier Three Magic yet?"

"I can only cast Tier Two Magic," Colin said.

White Eagle produced a leather case stuffed with Scrolls. "Then you should just barely be able to use these. After all, you can cast while wearing Armor."

Colin’s eye twitched when he saw so many Scrolls.

For a moment, he couldn’t even begin to calculate how much these Magic Scrolls were worth...

He carefully inspected the Magic recorded on the Scrolls.

One for See Invisibility, one for Gaseous Form, one for Sending, and one for Eagle Eye Technique.

These Scrolls hadn’t been on the shelves; they must have been stored in a higher-Level warehouse.

Aside from See Invisibility, a Tier Two Magic, the rest were all Tier Three Magic Scrolls.

Even though Colin was currently only a Mage capable of casting Tier Two Magic, with a Scroll in hand, he could cast High-tier Magic.

However, there was a chance of failure when casting above his own Tier. The higher the Tier, the greater the chance of failure. A minor failure would just waste the Scroll. A major one could cause a magical explosion, inflicting severe Damage on the Caster.

’Besides, if I don’t end up using these Scrolls, I can always use them for study later.’

’But right now, I can only cast Tier Two Magic. I’d have to wait until I can cast Tier Three Magic to learn them...’

Colin pushed the thought from his mind.

’Having thoughts like that during a battle is dangerous. It would be a cruel joke to get myself killed over it.’
