Chapter 49: Chapter 44: Ill-fated Bond

In the dimly lit confinement cell.

Yuan Lisha drank her milk, her eyes fixed on the computer screen.

Although it was confinement, all her daily needs were well provided for. Not everyone received the "privilege" of being confined here by the Committee.

Typically, those held in confinement were veteran players. Newbies were still figuring out the basic controls and exploring the map, and most didn’t have the time to get into any illegal shenanigans.

Although player eligibility was random, every player was a strategic resource—a part of humanity’s collective strength. The Committee rarely resorted to extreme punishments unless absolutely necessary.

Yuan Lisha stood up and began to gently practice Pilates, her eyes never leaving the screen.

On the screen, pixelated figures were building thatched huts and hanging their hunted prey on wooden poles. A primitive civilization, waiting to be rebuilt from scratch.

She too had once set foot in the Divine Hall of the Gods and entered the Crawling Area where the worlds of the Gods overlapped. That was the true global battlefield.

After being invaded by a Lizardman, the civilization Yuan Lisha had built was destroyed, and the faith in "God Jack" suffered a devastating blow.

Left with no choice, she had her remaining Believers scatter and flee, taking the Faith Flame with them to hide in lower-level worlds, awaiting the next Rebirth and rise.

The agony of defeat came with the shrinking of her Fire of Faith. She plummeted, becoming an ordinary person, no longer able to traverse between the two dimensions. Her divine body had all but completely collapsed.

Yuan Lisha couldn’t accept it.

She began using some... special methods to gather Faith.

As long as she wasn’t discovered, it didn’t count as violating the rules set by the Committee.

Who would have thought a High Level player would be loitering in a safe zone?

For some reason, they’d set their sights on her... completely unconcerned with wasting their precious time.

The tastes of High-Class Players were hard to predict.

Sometimes, this world just didn’t make any sense.

Yuan Lisha stretched her legs, keeping her muscles relaxed and flexible.

Suddenly, a notification popped up on the screen.

[The Faith of the Skinner has completely vanished from the Forest Fragment World. His Believers in that world will begin to seek a new God.]

[The Skinner is disappointed in you. Your reputation has decreased.]

Yuan Lisha narrowed her eyes, making sure she wasn’t seeing things.

’How is that possible?’

’There are only Apprentice Deities in the Fragment Worlds—total rookie players...’

’The Skinner left High Level fanatics there. With the Power of Faith of Apprentice Deities, it’s absolutely impossible to take them on.’

She quickly slapped the wall.

"I have critical intelligence!"

A short while later, a young woman in a white blouse emerged from the wall.

The young woman wore a thin tie with her blouse. Her lips were habitually pressed into a thin line, and her gaze was full of a stranger’s caution. She studied Yuan Lisha’s face as if trying to verify her identity.

"Why is it you? Can’t you send someone else?" Yuan Lisha said, exasperated.

"Songx Shiyi, stop staring. It doesn’t matter how many times you look, you won’t remember me anyway."

She ran a hand through her hair and waved impatiently. "Let’s skip the introductions."

"Now, I’m giving you a piece of critical intelligence. Listen carefully."

"In the Fragment World I was in before, the Hero the Skinner left behind has been eliminated. The Skinner’s Faith has completely vanished from that region."

"I’m affiliated with the Skinner in the Divine Hall of the Gods, so I get to see related information immediately."

Songx Shiyi looked startled. "The Skinner?"

"A Titled Deity from the Divine Hall of the Gods! Didn’t you check your database before you came?"

Yuan Lisha said through gritted teeth.

She usually enjoyed teasing Songx Shiyi about her condition, since the other woman wouldn’t remember anything tomorrow anyway, but right now it was just a burden.

Songx Shiyi seemed to ponder for a moment. "Ah, a Titled Deity. I remember now."

"..."

Suppressing her annoyance, Yuan Lisha spoke very quickly. "After the Forest God fell, the [Skinner] and the [Whistleblower] occupied that Fragment World."

"The Forest God was once a Main God. After He fell, the dimensional worlds He had overlapped were scattered and carved up by the Gods. But one world has yet to be found."

"The Main God Space containing the Forest God’s many treasures: the [Golden Field]."

Songx Shiyi was starting to get into the zone, her expression growing serious. "Are you saying that Fragment World overlaps with the [Golden Field]?"

"I don’t know."

Yuan Lisha shook her head. "But I think that being able to eliminate the Hero Level Believers left by the Skinner is far beyond the capabilities of an Apprentice Deity."

"The only possibility I can think of is that the Forest God’s Apostles are still hiding in the [Golden Field], and they were the ones who moved against the Skinner’s subordinates."

Songx Shiyi flipped open her phone and quickly looked up some information.

"According to your previous testimony, there’s a new player who was randomly assigned to that Fragment World."

"Yes. The kid’s power was mediocre. Half a month ago, when I was expelled from that world, his population was less than three hundred. His two Heroes were also garbage, only level 2."

Yuan Lisha sneered. "That kid took advantage of the fact I’d been captured by you people, and he led his primitives to steal my tribe and destroy my foundation there."

Songx Shiyi made a soft sound of surprise. "It was destroyed that easily?"

"My strategy is to spread out bases and Believers everywhere, unlike you types who focus on deeply cultivating a single world!"

Yuan Lisha said impatiently, "Anyway, it couldn’t have been him. Not unless he trained two level-30 Heroes in half a month and also managed to find the Skinner’s deep underground tunnels..."

"A very small possibility," Songx Shiyi agreed.

"It’s absolutely impossible!"

Yuan Lisha stressed, "In a Fragment World, there aren’t any wild monsters above level 20 for him to level up his Heroes! Even if he slaughtered every single monster in that Fragment World, he couldn’t possibly reach level 30!"

"If he doesn’t build a wonder or enter the Divine Hall of the Gods, his world can’t move, and its dimension can’t overlap. It will remain a Dead Water Fragment World with a capped level."

Songx Shiyi propped her chin on the back of her hand and said seriously, "Then is this a possibility: he has some kind of special treasure, and this treasure allowed him to get two level-30 Heroes?"

Yuan Lisha gave her a cold look.

"...Alright. I know, that’s a very small possibility," Songx Shiyi muttered to herself.

Her expression turned serious again. "In other words, an anomaly occurred in the Fragment World, which led to the elimination of the Hero the [Skinner] had left to stand guard."

"Correct. And this information concerns a Main God Space."

Yuan Lisha emphasized heavily, "You should understand what that means."

"Understood. I will verify this information. If it’s all true, the Committee will grant you a sentence reduction in accordance with the relevant articles of the ’Special Management Regulations’."

Yuan Lisha was stunned for a moment. "How are you going to verify it? There’s only that one new player there."

"May I ask his name? What do you know about him? An address and family information would be even better," Songx Shiyi asked earnestly.

"...All I know is the guy calls himself ’Yao God.’ I don’t know anything else."

"I see. I will do my best to find this player and verify the information you’ve provided."

Songx Shiyi said, "Once this player enters the Divine Hall of the Gods, we’ll be able to contact him."

She pulled up a page on her phone and recited from the data, "According to the Committee’s current Statistics, the probability of a new player ascending to the Divine Hall of the Gods is 7.4%, and the average time it takes is 176 days. We’ll have to have some Patience and wait."

"..."

Yuan Lisha squeezed her eyes shut in anguish, her fists clenched tight.

Now, she ironically had to pray that the rookie who had ambushed her would successfully ascend to the Divine Hall of the Gods and not die in some accident or natural disaster.

He was her only witness now.

’What sins did I commit to deserve this?!’

’Did I cheat on him and swindle his family fortune in a past life or something?’

...

At the office, Luh Yao yawned.

He’d been on edge all last night watching the [Mad Molting Monster]. Now that he had relaxed during the day, he was utterly exhausted.

He decided to go home and sleep early today.

Tonight, even if the sky falls, even if the boss calls me late at night with a raise, even if some long-lost relative insists on leaving me a billion-dollar inheritance... This Luh is going to bed before midnight to catch up on sleep.
