Chapter 15: Chapter 10: Polytheistic Faith

Luh Yao immediately formulated a counterattack plan.

He first sent the Pig Fish Brothers into the Western Mountain Range to continue their reconnaissance. With their Tracking Technique and Water-Seeking Technique, the two Heroes were perfectly suited for the role of Scouts.

Next, he opened the Divine Hall interface.

The [Blessing] slot was now empty.

Luh Yao took out a red and yellow children’s toy bow and arrow set from his inventory. It was made entirely of plastic, with soft rubber tips on the arrows. He had bought it at a toy store after work.

Bows and arrows were powerful weapons for early tribal civilizations. They allowed people to break free from the high-risk method of melee combat, using range to harass and wear down the enemy.

Although it was a child’s toy bow and arrow, the mechanical structure was the same.

Luh Yao placed the toy bow and arrow on his mouse cursor.

A small, red and yellow bow and arrow icon appeared in the Blessing slot.

[Bow and Arrow]: A Blessing from a God. A powerful, long-range weapon, it is one of the most important tools for armies and Hunters.

--Do you wish to bestow the [Bow and Arrow] upon your Believers?

Luh Yao clicked [Yes].

Exclamation marks appeared above the heads of all the little people in the Garlic Tribe.

"Yao God has bestowed a new Blessing!"

"The bow and arrow! The miraculous bow and arrow has been born!"

"It’s a weapon, a magnificent weapon!"

"We are no longer afraid of our enemies!"

"Hunting, hunting, I want to go hunting!"

"Praise the God! Praise the Sun!"

Among the little people, the Hunters had the strongest reaction. Not only did smiley faces appear above their heads, but they also danced for joy.

They seemed to understand the significance of the bow and arrow the most. The Hunters quickly crafted their own bows and arrows, then excitedly rushed toward the forest.

A question mark, however, appeared over the Prophet’s head.

Luh Yao clicked on his thoughts.

’The bow and arrow, a powerful ranged weapon. The God wants to arm us so we will no longer be threatened or attacked. From now on, we will no longer fear raids from outside enemies.’

’The God’s will... is for us to fight the Demon’s believers, to defeat those evil and savage brutes, and to defend our Faith and protect our lives.’

’It must be so!’

A question mark also appeared above the Shaman’s head, but his train of thought was different from the Prophet’s.

’The bow and arrow is like a frog’s tongue lashing out. Someone holding a bow can hunt from a very safe distance. As long as we are equipped with bows, we can not only hunt rabbits and monkeys but also shoot down birds from the sky. We will no longer have to fear injury when facing venomous snakes, bears, and wolves.’

’An incredible masterpiece. The God’s power is truly beyond mortal imagination.’

’We need more bows and arrows. Every one of us can be a warrior and a soldier. We will no longer be afraid of the Barbarian Tribe!’

Just as Luh Yao was observing each pixel person’s reaction to the bow and arrow, a notification popped up on the screen.

[Your Blessing has allowed your Believers to learn how to make and use the bow and arrow. Faith has increased.]

The Faith in the upper right corner increased by 30 points in one go, becoming 267 points.

After mastering the bow and arrow, the Garlic Tribe’s martial prowess visibly surged.

Every pixel person who went out now carried a bow and arrow. The Hunters also began to bring back large prey like bears and deer. More leather hides were stretched over the thatched roofs and walls, and more dried meat was hung on the wooden racks next to the wheat fields.

At that moment, news came from the Pig Fish Brothers.

"We’ve discovered a new tribe, the Salt Pool Tribe."

"The Salt Pool Tribe has heard that we have grain and wants to trade with us."

They hadn’t found the Barbarian Tribe, but they had made an unexpected discovery.

Luh Yao clicked on the two brothers, pulling them back to the tribe.

So, the two Heroes returned, bringing people from the Salt Pool Tribe with them.

Two little people arrived from the Salt Pool Tribe. They wore linen clothes and carried cloth bags, looking quite prosperous. As soon as they arrived, they began discussing trade with the Prophet and the Shaman.

"The Salt Pool Tribe has always traded with various other tribes, exchanging salt for grain, clothing, medicinal herbs, and other goods."

"We wish to trade our salt for your wheat."

A question mark appeared above the Prophet’s head.

He thought, ’This seems to be an opportunity. I must seize it to spread the Faith of our great God.’

Luh Yao was pleased to see this.

’The Prophet gets what I’m after.’

The Prophet said, "Friends from the Salt Pool Tribe, have you ever considered moving to a more suitable place to live?"

The little people from the Salt Pool Tribe looked at each other.

"We have the Salt Pool. The Salt Pool is everything. With the Salt Pool, we can trade for anything. We don’t need anything else."

"The Salt Pool is enough."

They had no intention of migrating whatsoever.

The Shaman also tried to persuade them, "The Barbarian Tribe lives in the mountains. They worship a Demon who turns people into beasts. The Barbarian Tribe attacks all other tribes that don’t believe in the Demon. The Salt Pool Tribe can’t hope to avoid them either."

Smiley faces appeared above the heads of the two little people from the Salt Pool Tribe.

"That’s not a problem."

"We also believe in that Lord Demon."

Exclamation marks appeared over the heads of everyone in the Garlic Tribe.

The people from the Salt Pool Tribe explained, "In the Salt Pool Tribe’s Divine Hall, we worship three Gods, and that includes the one you see as a Demon."

"Our tribe lives by the Salt Pool and salt production. Every one of us has to sell salt. As long as it helps us live better, we can accept any Faith."

"If need be, our tribe is willing to believe in your God here, as long as you are willing to trade with us and your God can protect us."

The Prophet and the Shaman were both stunned for a moment, and question marks appeared above their heads.

Luh Yao was thoroughly impressed.

This Salt Pool Tribe was the first polytheistic tribe he had ever seen.

They seemed to be quite pragmatic, possessing some traits of early merchants.

"Friends from the Garlic Tribe, we are willing to trade with you for wheat long-term. We are also willing to purchase any other suitable goods you have."

The Prophet and the Shaman went aside to confer.

"The tribe has plenty of grain now. We can spread our Lord God’s Faith through the Salt Pool Tribe. This will be beneficial to our Lord God and the tribe." The Prophet was focused on the influence of their Faith.

"Salt is very important for the tribe. With salt, we can make more cured meat, which can be stored for a long time. With salt from the Salt Pool Tribe, we won’t have to search for it everywhere anymore. The Hunters will become stronger." The Shaman was more concerned with the practical benefits.

The two Wise Men reached a consensus.

"We are willing to trade with the Salt Pool Tribe."

[The Garlic Tribe has begun to trade with the Salt Pool Tribe. The Salt Pool Tribe’s attitude has changed to Neutral.]

Smiley faces appeared above the heads of both little people from the Salt Pool Tribe.

"There are quite a few goods here."

"Wheat, an important grain."

"Bows and arrows, excellent weapons."

"Leather, which can be made into clothes, armor, and bags."

"!"

Suddenly, exclamation marks popped up above the heads of the two little people.

"Garlic! It’s a spice!"

"We’ve discovered a unique commodity! The spice, garlic!"

The little people from the Salt Pool Tribe raised their arms and cheered excitedly.

"Please give us as much garlic as possible, we want all the garlic! The priceless garlic, the wonderfully pungent garlic!"

Luh Yao was amused.

’I never expected that my initial thoughtless action would actually come in handy now.’

In the early days of human civilization, spices were extremely expensive luxury goods. While wheat, bows and arrows, and leather could be considered conventional commodities, garlic was the only spice of its kind in the vicinity.

The two little people from the Salt Pool Tribe left behind two bags of salt, took a large amount of garlic, and hurriedly returned to the mountains in the west.

A few minutes later, a line of text appeared on the computer screen.

[The Salt Pool Tribe has decided to make garlic a key commodity. The Salt Pool Tribe’s attitude has changed to Friendly. Your Faith will now be spread within the Salt Pool Tribe.]

[Your Blessing has made the Salt Pool Tribe ecstatic. Faith has increased slightly.]

This time, the Faith in the upper right corner increased by 120 points, bringing the total directly to 387 points.

Even Luh Yao was stunned for a moment.

’This Salt Pool Tribe seems extraordinary. Just by giving them the distribution rights to garlic, they offered up so much Faith. It looks like their population and scale far exceed that of the previous Forest Tribe.’

Then Luh Yao had another thought.

’You can’t just jump back and forth between three Gods without having some strength to back it up. If they weren’t tough enough on their own, the Barbarian Tribe, who are so keen on plundering heretics, would have probably wiped out the Salt Pool Tribe long ago.’
