Chapter 74: 74:Permission II
"That’s partly the reason."
Several eyes narrowed. The Patriarch leaned back.
"Continue."
Silver met his gaze directly.
"I also believe remaining here may become dangerous," he quietly said.
That immediately got everyone’s attention.
"What do you mean?"
Silver chose his words carefully, he just needed that last small button.
"Someone attacked me during my hunt yesterday. I do not wish to come to such a conclusion but someone seems interested in the box Cruella returned to me... which, of course, I threw away," he hurriedly said.
Mixing truth and lies in it was the best way he could come up with. If the Patriarch knew that someone from the family was being hunted, that would be considered unacceptable.
He also wanted to observe the expression of those in the room.
The room grew silent. The Patriarch’s fingers tapped the desk once, yet the atmosphere changed immediately.
Silver couldn’t place it but from the subtle expressions passing across his face, he knew that the Patriarch understood or at least suspected, more than he realized.
After several moments, he finally spoke.
"Do you have evidence?"
"No. Only suspicion."
The Patriarch nodded slowly then sat quietly for almost a full minute. Nobody dared to interrupt him. Finally, he looked toward Silver.
"You intend to leave with whom?"
Silver answered honestly.
"Just one person."
He raised an eyebrow.
"The Arkland girl?"
Silver froze. Several elders suddenly looked amused at his reaction. The Patriarch continued calmly.
"The entire Sanctuary knows already."
Silver wanted the floor to immediately swallow him. The Patriarch ignored his embarrassment.
"Is she trustworthy?"
Silver thought for a moment then nodded.
"More than most."
That answer seemed to satisfy him. Eventually, the Patriarch leaned back, decision made.
"I approve."
Silver’s eyes widened. That had been easier than he had expected it to be. It seems awakening had at least raised his image and value.
The Patriarch continued.
"You may leave." Before Silver could turn, he added," since you will not use the family convoy, but travel independently..."
Silver nodded, that was exactly what he wanted. The Patriarch continued.
"You will receive a vehicle..."
Silver couldn’t hide his surprise. This meant he would get one of the better long-range contractor vehicles, far better than the one Silver currently used.
The Patriarch continued.
"You will also receive fifty thousand points."
The room visibly reacted. Fifty thousand points was a substantial amount of money, enough to travel comfortably, buy supplies, and survive unexpected situations.
The Patriarch looked directly at him.
"Do not embarrass the family."
Silver smiled.
"I’ll try not to."

Two hours later, Silver was driving toward the Contractor Hotel. The new vehicle practically purred beneath him. It was faster, stronger, and better armored with more storage space.
It was a really good and genuine long-distance contractor vehicle. Which was exactly what he needed.
The city gradually shifted around him. Eventually, the familiar hotel came into view. Silver parked and walked inside. He stopped by the lobby, near the reception desk.
"Good morning, young master?"
Silver smiled. "Morning too. Could you please inform Ravenna of my arrival?"
"Sure."
Silver’s attention went to something else as he waited.

He had four roses in his hand behind his back as he waited for her arrival. No one had noticed what he was doing.
A few minutes later Ravenna arrived. She tilted her head slightly in question.
"You look happier than usual?"
Silver chuckled.
"Good morning to you, too," he said and extended his arm," flowers for a beautiful lady."
She chuckled as she stared at the flowers before accepting them. She brought them to her nose.
"They still smell as good," she said, " where did you learn to say that?"
"Say what?"
She smiled and shook her head.
"Come on, let’s take a seat we’re becoming quite the spectacle."
That was when Silver noticed everyone was looking at them weirdly. Others were smiling while some looked ready to hit them.
He picked a table in the corner of the hotel and led her there.
"I hope I didn’t wake you up too early?" He said while pulling out her chair.
"No, I just came from my morning run. There is a garden behind the hotel where I go to run. Most people around this area go there."
Silver nodded. He took a seat opposite her and called for a server. A comfortable silence fell over them as they both fell into their thoughts.
Silver eventually surrendered.
"I got permission."
Ravenna froze.
"Permission for what?"
"To leave the Sanctuary"
Now she understood. Her eyes widened.
"They actually agreed? I thought you would have to leave without anyone knowing"
Silver nodded.
"I thought so too. I was actually debating whether to inform my grandfather or not but it’s better to do it as a courtesy. It wouldn’t have hurt to try.," he said getting infected with her excitement, " I’m glad I did it since I got more than I expected to get. I was given a vehicle, money, and supplies."
Ravenna stared at him a second longer then laughed.
"Your grandfather likes you more than you think."
Silver wasn’t entirely convinced. It was probably because he now held little value to the family and he proved he could change.
The laughter gradually faded. Then Silver’s expression became serious.
Ravenna noticed the change in his expression immediately.
"What?" freewebnσvel.cѳm
Silver hesitated, then decided honesty was better. She had already agreed to leave with him at first but he hadn’t told her about it.
"There may be another reason I need to leave."
The smile completely disappeared from her face.
"What happened? Is something wrong?"
Silver leaned back, thinking carefully.
’How much should I tell her?’
He couldn’t tell her everything but it should be enough to satiate her curiosity.
"My parents left me something," he quietly started," it’s important enough to warrant an assassination. I don’t really have it at the moment since I’ve already used it but those who want it don’t know that. They only know I have it and they would do anything in their power to take it. I’m afraid that if you decide to go with me, our travels would not be as easy."
Ravenna didn’t respond immediately. Her expression remained impassive even after he was done.
"Would you tell me what it is?" He quietly asked.
Silver shook his head immediately. "No... not yet."
She nodded and straightened, immediately serious.
"How bad do you think it will get?... the attacks, I mean."
Silver stared out the window at the people moving through the streets, completely unaware of the conversation happening nearby.
"I don’t know."
And that was the truth. What frightened him wasn’t certainty, it was uncertainty because uncertainty meant possibilities and some possibilities were dangerous. Eventually, he looked back toward her.
"I might be overthinking it... I don’t even know who wants to be dead. I only have one lead and that’s all."
Ravenna shook her head.
"No," she instantly responded, "If your instincts are telling you something is wrong or going to happen, don’t ignore it."
Silver stared at her. The certainty surprised him. Ravenna folded her arms.
"I survived because I learned one thing."
"What?"
"Paranoia keeps you alive."
Silver laughed despite himself. The answer was ridiculous and somehow completely believable.
Ravenna smiled slightly then her expression softened. She looked directly into his eyes then asked quietly.
"When do we leave?"
