Chapter 372: Chapter 370: Green is Good for the Body and Mind

Their things, all together.

He used her body wash.

A rushed shower this morning.

Simon Adler gripped the pen in his hand, struggling to keep his expression neutral.

There was little fluff in that statement; it was all key points.

You could pull out so many keywords from it with no effort.

It was hard not to suspect the man’s intentions.

Noticing his sour expression, Silas Grant calmly dusted off his cuffs and looked at the crowd impassively. "Everyone’s here. Let’s begin."

During the subsequent meeting, it was clear that Simon Adler was not in a good mood.

He had been feeling refreshed and energetic this morning. Now, well, it would have been better not to have come back at all.

Throughout the entire meeting, a low-pressure system seemed to hang over Simon Adler.

Except when he absolutely had to speak, he stared at the documents on the table without uttering a word.

Anyone could see he was in low spirits today.

The people here were all managers who interacted with him frequently and knew his usual temperament. So, seeing him like this, they couldn’t help but be curious.

’What’s wrong with him?’

’Could it be that he’s reluctant to leave?’

’Or resentful?’

’Don’t tell me it wasn’t a voluntary resignation? Is there some inside story?’

The others silently exchanged glances.

They held back until the meeting ended. The moment Silas Grant left, several people immediately surrounded Simon Adler, showering him with concern.

"It’s not that."

Simon Adler repeatedly insisted his departure was a standard transfer.

’A transfer... I guess you could barely call it that.’

’After all, it’s still one of the Grant Family’s businesses, and it’s connected to Silas Grant.’

So on the surface, there was no conflict of interest between him and Silas Grant, and none of the dramatic soap opera storylines everyone was imagining had occurred.

"Then what’s the reason?"

"Yeah, you were just chatting and laughing a moment ago. Then Silas Grant showed up, and your face just fell."

"It’s nothing," Simon Adler said, not wanting to talk about it. He gathered his things, ready to leave.

He was supposed to go up and say goodbye to Silas Grant, but he wasn’t in the mood for it now. He planned to visit the branch office and then fly directly to Jynsia.

’Out of sight, out of mind.’

"Don’t tell me you met a girl you fancy in Jynsia?"

"Looking at him, it doesn’t seem like he met a girl he fancies. It looks more like he’s heartbroken."

Everyone laughed. They didn’t mean to tease him, just to liven up the atmosphere and lift his spirits.

Who knew that Simon Adler’s expression would darken even more.

Seeing this, the laughter around them died abruptly.

They glanced at each other. "We’re screwed. We really hit a sore spot."

"Who jinxed it?"

Simon Adler didn’t notice their looks and stood up. "Alright, I’m heading out."

Coming out of the conference room, Simon Adler saw Eric.

His mood soured even further.

Eric was like the chief eunuch to an ancient emperor. His appearance represented the emperor himself, and he usually came bearing an imperial edict.

Simon Adler wanted to take a detour, but Eric sidled up with a grin, beating Simon to the elevator button. "Mr. Adler, this way, please."

Simon hadn’t been in the conference room, so he didn’t know what had happened.

But seeing the look on Simon Adler’s face, he immediately grew wary.

With a single glance from Simon Adler, Simon immediately blocked Eric from entering the elevator.

Simon Adler looked at the man outside and said coldly, "What is it?"

"It’s almost lunchtime. Mr. Grant asked me to see if you’d be interested in trying the new dishes in the cafeteria."

"Hmph." Simon Adler scoffed. "Since when does he have the time for such leisurely concerns?"

"Mainly, Mr. Grant is worried that after you leave this time, you won’t be able to eat the food from the Hughes Corp cafeteria for a long time, and you might miss it."

"The new avocado potato salad and stir-fried celtuce have been very well-received. Everyone says green vegetables are good for your physical and mental health; you should like them. How about this? I’ll have someone pack them up and send them over to you later. It’s a token of Mr. Grant’s goodwill."

"..."

The elevator doors closed. There was a moment of silence inside, followed by a curse.

Back in the car, Simon Adler’s face was even greener than that plate of vegetables.

Simon subconsciously glanced at the top of his head.

"What are you looking at?!"

The man’s tone was not pleasant.

Simon was very direct. "Just looking at your hair. It’s fine, still black."

"..."

Simon Adler really wanted to kick him.

But it wasn’t exactly convenient to do so from the back seat.

"Who the hell does he think he is, the main consort? Who is he indirectly calling a homewrecker?"

"If we’re really getting into it, hmph. He’s not exactly someone you can show off in public either."

"And now he’s trying to compete with me."

Simon knew how to smooth his ruffled feathers. He placated him while driving, "Well, that just means Mr. Grant sees you as a serious threat. That’s a good thing."

"The fact that he can imply you’ve been cuckolded means that in his eyes, Miss Grant must like you a lot."

"..."

As expected, the back seat went quiet.

Simon smirked triumphantly and soon began to hum a little tune.

Simon Adler leaned back in his seat, but his expression didn’t soften at Simon’s words.

His face remained tense. He didn’t feel happy.

Because it didn’t matter what Silas Grant thought.

Fundamentally, nothing had happened between him and Mia Grant.

Ever since he landed in Jynsia, Mia Grant had promised to have a housewarming for him, but she still hadn’t contacted him on her own initiative.

His attempts to chat with her were met with radio silence, like a stone sinking into the ocean.

She should’ve replied by now. It’s been long enough for a message to come back from the dead.

But she just didn’t reply.

Meanwhile, he was the one constantly reaching out to her, like an underling reporting to his boss, only to get the cold shoulder every time.

He opened his phone, glanced at it, and typed out a message.

[Are you in Jynsia? I need to talk to you about something. Are you free to meet?]

On the other end, Mia Grant had already woken up.

Hearing her phone vibrate, she picked it up, looked at it, and after a moment’s hesitation, replied: [No, I’m in Portia. What’s up?]

[That’s perfect. I’m in Portia right now too. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up so we can talk in person.]

"..." Mia Grant sat up a little straighter. She reread their conversation, feeling like she had just fallen into a trap.

’I wonder if it’s just my imagination.’

It was still early, and Silas Grant had said he wouldn’t be back until the afternoon. Mia Grant was feeling a bit bored anyway, so she agreed.

She only realized it was raining when she went to the door.

She hadn’t been standing under the eaves admiring the rain for long before Simon Adler arrived.

Once in the car, she got straight to the point. "What did you want to see me about? Spit it out."

She couldn’t be bothered to dwell on the fact that he’d tricked her.

The moment she got in the car, Simon Adler caught the familiar scent of milk.

It was the exact same scent that had been on Silas Grant a few hours earlier.

He pressed his lips together, only speaking after a long moment. "Let’s talk about Felix Sinclair and the lab."

Hearing this, Mia Grant’s interest was immediately piqued. She fastened her seatbelt and turned to look at him. "Is there a development?"

"You could say that."

"Felix Sinclair will probably fly to Portia in the next couple of days. He might be staying for a while."

"Huh?" Mia Grant frowned. "He has classes. That probably won’t work."

"Perhaps he’ll have to travel back and forth," Simon Adler said lightly.

Mia Grant decided she would go back and try to persuade Felix Sinclair otherwise. Traveling back and forth every day would be too taxing on his body.

"What was the development you just mentioned?"
