Chapter 369: Chapter 367: His Baby Is Sleeping Soundly
Right up until the end of the workday, Silas Grant showed no signs of displeasure.
He seemed very happy that she had come.
But Mia Grant seemed distracted.
By the time they left the company’s underground parking garage, the sky outside had already darkened.
Eric had booked a restaurant for the two of them. On the way there, Silas Grant took a call.
Mia Grant couldn’t understand which foreign language he was speaking, so she simply stared out the window in a daze.
The call continued until they had parked.
Mia Grant sat and waited for a bit, but she grew impatient and decided to get out of the car first.
Eric led her inside.
On the way, Eric carefully observed her expression. He couldn’t shake the feeling that she was a little down.
Of course, Silas Grant didn’t seem to be in a great mood either.
"Did you and Mr. Grant have a fight?" he asked.
Mia Grant snapped out of it and looked at him in surprise. "No, why would you say that?"
"Well, neither of you seems to be in very high spirits."
Mia Grant smiled. "It’s normal that you can tell I’m not in a great mood, but how could you tell with him?"
Eric gave an enigmatic smile. "I’ve been with Mr. Grant for so many years, so I can pick up on the little details. When he’s unhappy, his expression is flawless, but if you look closely, there are subtle changes in his movements and speech."
Mia Grant crossed her arms as she waited for the elevator with him. "I don’t know why, either. But we definitely didn’t fight. We’re not the type to argue."
Eric thought for a moment. "Is it about the birthday gift?"
Hearing this, Mia Grant’s gaze froze, and she looked at him with some surprise.
Seeing her reaction, Eric knew he had guessed correctly. He immediately said, somewhat apologetically, "My apologies for being nosy! Why don’t you just give that golf club to Mr. Grant?"
"I’m just making wild guesses. It doesn’t represent what Mr. Grant is actually thinking."
Mia Grant threw his own words back at him. "But you’ve been by his side for many years."
"..." Eric felt like he had just shot himself in the foot.
"But I don’t really know Mr. Grant that well, either. As you know, Mr. Grant is a very deep person. He’s hard to read."
"I was just talking nonsense, please don’t take it to heart!"
Eric was filled with regret. He shouldn’t have spouted all that nonsense.
He pressed his palms together in a pleading gesture. "Miss Grant, you’re the bigger person. Please don’t hold it against me."
"Just give it to him! Otherwise, when Mr. Grant finds out, he’ll fire me!"
"Don’t be so dramatic." Mia Grant straightened up slightly and glanced toward the entrance. Silas Grant still hadn’t gotten out of the car.
She then looked away. "You’re the chairman’s assistant and part of management. It’s not that easy to get fired."
Eric said, "But I made a huge mistake this time. Getting fired would be the minimum. I might even get blacklisted from the entire industry. You know Mr. Grant’s methods."
"..." Mia Grant was at a loss for words.
"Alright, alright, I’ll think about it."
Eric tried his best to suppress the upward curve of his lips. "Thank you, Miss Grant! The elevator is here. This way, please~"
Throughout the meal, Mia Grant barely paid attention to what she was eating. Her mind was entirely focused on the birthday gift.
After wrestling with it for a while, she decided to just give it to him.
’I’ve already bought it, I can’t just return it, can I?’
’Do they think an auction house is a farmer’s market?’
’Even a farmer’s market wouldn’t give a refund for no reason.’
When they got home, Silas Grant set his jacket aside. "I have an urgent international conference call. Why don’t you find a movie to watch and relax for a bit?"
Mia Grant blinked, swallowing the words about the golf club, and nodded. "Okay."
This was his private residence, unlike the He residence, which had a large staff of servants. Here, someone only came to clean during the day at scheduled times.
Right now, besides the two of them, no one else was there.
Silas Grant was worried about her and had also noticed her poor appetite at dinner.
Even though the team overseas was already waiting, he unhurriedly went to the kitchen to make her a glass of fresh juice and wash some fruit.
Mia Grant had originally planned to take a shower and go lie down in her room for a while, but seeing him bring over the fruit, she stayed in the living room.
Silas Grant then helped her turn on the projector and switched to the movie channel.
Seeing that he was about to help her find a movie, Mia Grant’s temple throbbed. She snatched the remote from him. "I can do it myself. You should hurry and get to work. I know how to find a movie."
She muttered under her breath, "It’s not like I’m illiterate."
Silas Grant heard her and raised a hand to stroke her hair, then kissed her on the cheek. "I’ll try to finish early. If you get sleepy, just go to your room and sleep. You don’t have to wait for me."
Mia Grant plucked a grape and held it to his lips, urging, "Go on, go on!"
Silas Grant bit down on the grape, took her hand, and kissed her fingertips. "Be good."
Only then did he leave.
As soon as he left, Mia Grant put on a random movie and started to unpack her suitcase.
Mainly to get the golf club.
After taking it out, she held it in her hands for a moment before finally putting it in the bedroom.
Mia Grant got sleepy halfway through the movie.
She took the unfinished fruit with her and went to the bathroom to take a bath.
When she got out, she was extremely tired. Noticing that Silas Grant was still in his meeting, she set an alarm and went to bed.
At eleven o’clock at night, Silas Grant took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose.
He sat in his chair for two minutes to recover before looking at the clock on the side.
’It’s already so late.’
He subconsciously held his breath to listen for any sounds outside, but the soundproofing was too good; he heard nothing.
He picked up his phone and got up, planning to look for her in the living room.
The projector was off, along with the living room lights.
’Looks like she went to sleep.’
He turned, loosened his tie, and headed back to the master bedroom.
He gently pushed the door open, walked past the walk-in closet, and went inside.
On the large bed in the center of the room, a small lump was slightly raised under the covers.
She felt insecure when she slept, so she was clutching something bulky in her arms, probably a pillow.
She was sound asleep.
Silas Grant stood by the bed, gazing at her for a long time, before finally leaning over with a smile to turn off the lamp beside her.
With a soft CLICK, Mia Grant’s brows furrowed slightly. Before her eyes even opened, she subconsciously asked, "Are you done with work?"
The figure by the bed froze, then leaned down to hug her. "Did I wake you?"
"Mhm, why aren’t you getting in bed?"
"I haven’t showered yet. I thought you wouldn’t sleep well with the lamp on, so I wanted to turn it off for you and leave a small night-light on."
Mia Grant wasn’t fully awake yet, her reaction a little slow. It took her a moment to say, "That night-light is too dim. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to see when you came in..."
Hearing that, Silas Grant realized she had left the lamp on for him.
His heart instantly melted.
He bent down and kissed her, whispering softly in her ear, "Thanks, baby. You go back to sleep. I’m going to take a shower, I’ll be back soon."
Mia Grant mumbled something, turned over, and went back to sleep.
Half an hour later, Silas Grant came out of the bathroom.
He didn’t turn on the light. Using the faint glow of the night-light, he walked to the bedside. His baby was sleeping soundly.
Suddenly, his foot kicked something.
