After all, this was the Apocalypse World.
He took out the two Special Ability Crystal Cores and gave one to Xu Bin and one to Guo Zhen. "Just swallow it," he said.

The Ability Crystal Cores were quite miraculous. They were normally extremely hard, but the moment one entered your mouth, it would rapidly dissolve into a liquid.

Xu Bin and Guo Zhen respectfully accepted the Crystal Cores. Their palms trembled as they held them.

Guo Zhen, however, didn’t hesitate for a second. He popped the Crystal Core into his mouth. As he swallowed, the core, which had felt like it was scraping his throat raw, suddenly dissolved, turning into a liquid that slid down his gullet.
In that instant, he felt a warm current surge through his entire body. The sensation was followed by pained groans escaping his lips.
He felt as if his very flesh and blood were being torn apart by an unknown force. The pain was so intense that he collapsed to his knees, his body hunched over on the ground.
At the same time, however, he experienced a strange sensation: the torn flesh was healing almost instantly, leaving behind an even more peculiar feeling in its place.
The others couldn’t comprehend what Guo Zhen was experiencing. All Lin Jiao and her group could see was the skin and flesh on his body writhing rapidly. In the process, his body began to swell, growing fatter and fatter until his clothes ripped apart at the seams.

Suddenly, Guo Zhen slammed a fist into the ground. The punch carried a tremendous impact, shaking the earth and creating a large, circular web of cracks.
Dust billowed out as pebbles and debris were sent flying.

"You certainly did..." Xu Bin said, his face a mask of astonishment. Without another moment of hesitation, he stuffed the Crystal Core in his hand into his own mouth.
Just like Guo Zhen, his body underwent the same changes. When the transformation was complete, he too had become a fatty.
The only difference was that his frame was even larger than Guo Zhen’s. He had been a sturdy man to begin with, and now his body had become even more robust.
After gaining his ability, Xu Bin let out a great shout and slammed his fist into the ground.

They had found a special, six-tentacled, octopus-like creature and discovered that its tentacles had the unique ability to link with a host’s nervous system.
So, the faction tried to use this research to control zombies, which led to the creation of the monster known as the Hexagonal Beast.
But the outcome of humanity grasping the unknown without being able to control it is always predictable, just like how so many disasters in movies are caused by reckless human research.
The Hexagonal Beast created by the faction could indeed control zombies. It could even release a special aura that caused zombies to mutate.
However, the Hexagonal Beast’s intelligence was far beyond their expectations. It was completely uncontrollable, and the faction ended up being destroyed by its own creation.
The lore didn’t explain why the Hexagonal Beast appeared near the City East Alliance, or why it took so long for the zombie horde to emerge. It only mentioned that the Hexagonal Beast had been injured and was slowly recovering in the vicinity of the City East Alliance.
Lu Feng checked a few other sources, but they all said roughly the same thing.
’In other words, there’s another mysterious faction somewhere around Qingfeng Base, and the Hexagonal Beast has already appeared?’
