Chapter 114: Alive Again

Before Stanley could finish his thoughts, the demon suddenly rared its head back.

"Haaaaah!" The next moment, it thrust its head forward and swept it from right to left.

A white beam of light burst from its mouth.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Explosions erupted wherever the beam passed. The earth shattered, rocks flew into the air, and dust clouds billowed across the battlefield.

The hunters scattered in every direction, desperately dodging the attack. But one of them was too slow.

A female hunter.

She wore no combat armor and looked more like a healer than a frontline fighter. Her face turned pale as she tried to evade the incoming beam but her speed wasn’t enough.

"Mavrin, watch out!"

A male hunter who had just escaped the attack turned around and saw her lagging behind. Without hesitation, he tried to rush back and save her. But he was too late.

Szzzzzz!

The instant the beam touched her body, flesh and bone began to melt away. It was as though highly concentrated acid had been poured onto her skin. ƒrēewebnovel.com

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" An agonizing scream tore from her throat. Her body convulsed violently. The beam had already passed by. Yet, the damage was already done.

Slowly, her screams weakened. Her eyes rolled back. The light faded from them.

Then...

Nothing. Her body collapsed onto the ground. Motionless.

Dead.

Silence spread through the arena which had turned into a battlefield.

Tears welled up in several hunters’ eyes.

Some lowered their heads. A few looked away. They were her teammates. Or friends.

People who had fought beside her.

Archie’s jaw tightened. His hand slowly moved to the sword hanging at his waist.

"You dare touch a member of my guild?" His voice was cold. Filled with killing intent.

"I don’t care what the hell you are." Lightning began crackling around his body.

"You’ll pay for that with your life." He leaned forward. "Lightning Step."

BOOM!

His figure bolted forward. A streak of blue-white lightning shot toward the demon.

Shing!

His sword left its sheath in a single fluid motion. Crackling arcs of lightning danced along the blade.

Then...

Whoosh!

The lightning-infused sword sliced through the air, heading straight for the demon’s neck.

At the same time, Leon was already moving.

’It’s gotten even stronger.’ His expression was dark. ’If we don’t stop it now, everyone here might die.’

With a thought, Leon summoned the Raging Inferno’s Wings. The twin daggers vanished right after emerging from the system storage.

They whistled through the air and shot toward the demon, each one from the opposite direction.

At the same time, Leon pulled out the black claymore he had recently purchased. Without slowing down, he charged forward.

The distance vanished in an instant. Then he swung.

The demon was being attacked from multiple sides at once.

Archie from the front.

Leon from behind.

And the two invisible daggers from the flanks.

Yet the demon remained completely calm. The vicious smile never left its face.

Just as the blades were about to land in the demon’s crimson skin...

Just as the invisible daggers were about to pierce through its flesh and emerge from the other side...

The demon moved. It pivoted on its heel.

Whoooosh!

The massive club swept through the air in a devastating circular arc.

Clang!

Archie’s lightning-infused sword was knocked aside instantly.

Clang!

Leon’s claymore suffered the same fate.

The overwhelming force behind the swing threw both of them off balance and sent them sliding backward across the ground.

But that wasn’t all.

The invisible daggers arrived a heartbeat later. Yet the demon didn’t even bother looking at them.

It casually twisted its body to the left. One dagger missed.

Then it shifted to the right. The second dagger sliced through empty air.

The attacks that should have been impossible to dodge failed to touch it even once. The demon stood there calmly, the massive club resting in its hand.

Archie wasn’t willing to stop there. He raised his left hand toward the sky.

Immediately, dark clouds began gathering overhead. Lightning flickered within them, illuminating the battlefield with brief flashes of blue-white light.

The demon simply watched. It didn’t attack.

It didn’t interrupt him. It was as if it wanted to see what Archie was capable of.

"Thunder Roar!" Archie shouted.

ZAP!

A massive bolt of lightning descended from the sky.

Then another.

And another.

In the blink of an eye, dozens of lightning bolts rained down upon the battlefield.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

The earth exploded wherever they struck. Cracks spread across the ground. Massive pits were blasted open. The demon tried to evade the storm. Its speed was astonishing.

But the lightning was faster.

ZAP!

A bolt struck its shoulder.

ZAP!

Another slammed into its chest.

ZAP!

A third tore across its back.

ZAP!

The fourth landed directly on its thigh.

For the first time since its arrival, the demon was forced backward. The lightning ravaged its crimson flesh. Large patches of skin blackened and decayed. Burnt flesh peeled away from its body. Thick, dark fluid dripped from the wounds and splattered onto the ground below.

The smell of charred flesh filled the air.

But Archie wasn’t finished yet. While the demon was busy dodging the remaining lightning bolts raining from the sky, Archie vanished. The next moment, he appeared directly behind it.

"Yes, Guild Master! Obliterate that thing!"

One of the hunters shouted from the distance where the others had gathered.

Lightning crackled violently around Archie’s arm. Without hesitation, he threw a punch.

The demon sensed the danger and began to turn.

But it was too late.

Thwack!

Archie’s fist pierced straight through its back and burst out from its chest. For a brief moment, silence fell. Then the lightning erupted.

Zap! Zap! Zap!

Violent streams of electricity surged through the demon’s body, tearing through flesh and organs as they zigzagged in every direction.

The demon’s body swelled. Cracks of blue-white light spread across its crimson skin.

And then...

BOOOOM!

A deafening explosion shook the battlefield.

The demon’s body exploded into countless pieces. Chunks of flesh and blood rained from the sky. The shockwave blasted dust and debris outward.

For a moment, nobody spoke. Archie slowly lowered his arm, his breathing heavy. Sweat dripped down his forehead.

"Finally..."

He exhaled.

"It’s dead."

But just as he was about to step forward...

Something moved.

A piece of flesh lying on the ground twitched.

Then another.

And another.

Archie’s expression froze. The surrounding hunters stared in disbelief. The scattered chunks of flesh suddenly began crawling across the ground. They moved toward one another.

Faster and faster. As if drawn together by an invisible force. The pieces collided. Merged.

A mass of writhing flesh rose into the air.

Under countless horrified gazes, the grotesque mass rapidly took shape.

Arms formed. Legs emerged. A torso followed. Then a head. Within seconds, the demon stood there once more.

Whole.

Uninjured.

Alive.
