Chapter 445: Chapter 169: Chaotic Heart Level 6, Beheading 3
At that moment, ten people were gathered around a round table. Though their attire varied, a powerful aura emanated from each of them.
In the seat of honor sat a man dressed in yellow.
The man possessed an intimidating aura, vast and profound like the deep sea.
He scanned the room, his tone grave and serious.
"Shen Bai from Fenglin State has taken up his post. The very first thing he did was wipe out the entire Gao Family—my collaborators. Not only that, but I’ve heard that at a banquet hosted by Dongfang Li, he cut down Zui Wujiang of the Drunken Sword Sect on the spot. He was swift, ruthless, and decisive."
With that, the man fell silent, his gaze sweeping over the others as if awaiting their response.
To the man’s right sat a strikingly beautiful woman.
The woman, who had been toying with her teacup, paused. She slowly said, "He’s a ruthless one, to be sure, but he’s only at the Meridian Realm. The world may say he’s capable of ’Overcoming Adversity and Attacking Upward,’ but even so, the best he could do is fight someone in the Unity Realm. Reaching the Void Realm above that? Impossible. He’s nothing to be afraid of."
After she spoke, the others nodded in silent agreement.
The leader, however, turned and shook his head. "I may not have seen it myself, but the rumors alone are alarming enough. Even if his power is relatively low, a man with such methods cannot be allowed to live."
At this, the remaining members of the group nodded as well.
The woman set down her teacup. "Are you suggesting we move on him immediately? That might be difficult. The security in Nanxing Prefecture is tighter than we anticipated. Killing Shen Bai within the city walls will be no simple task."
The man sneered. "Of course, dealing with him inside the city won’t be easy. But what if he weren’t in the city?"
Across the table, an old man with a white beard and hair frowned.
"You mean to lure him out of Nanxing Prefecture? But how could that be done? A man of his caliber won’t leave the city for just any reason. Creating such an opportunity will be incredibly difficult."
"Yes, you’re right. The key to this is luring him out of Nanxing Prefecture. The question is, how?"
A portly man sitting beside the elder nodded in agreement. "For minor incidents, the Observatory’s men can handle it. For major ones... well, creating a major incident isn’t easy to begin with. Besides, it would be so obvious it’s a trap. We might as well send him an invitation."
In truth, everyone present had already considered the leader’s suggestion. If they could actually lure Shen Bai out, killing him would be simple.
But luring him out was easier said than done.
The leader nodded. "You don’t need to worry about that. I have a way. Here, take a look at this."
As he spoke, the man pulled a thumb-sized longsword from within his robes.
A cold light glinted on the miniature sword, as if it would fly from its sheath at any moment to claim a life.
Upon seeing the object, the woman who had spoken first widened her eyes slightly.
"The Sword of Calamity... That Deceitful Object is incredibly precious. Are you really willing to use it?"
The Sword of Calamity, when planted in a location, would instantly melt away, unleashing a great disaster.
It was a sufficient Deterrence even to those in their line of work, let alone to ordinary people, for whom its power would be even more terrifying.
The leader shook his head. "I’m well aware of this item’s value and power. But all that is insignificant compared to killing Shen Bai. As long as we can eliminate him for good, what does using this matter? There’s just one thing: we cannot be the ones to do it."
"As it happens, I have an agent in a nearby county. I’ll have him do the deed."
Hearing this, the others considered the plan for a moment before nodding in unison.
"Agreed. This plan could work. If we truly want to tie the Observatory’s hands and force Shen Bai to leave the city, only something of this magnitude will do."
A minor disaster would be useless. But a catastrophe of this scale must be reported up the chain of command. Given Shen Bai’s position, he would have to rush to the scene himself, or he’d be considered derelict in his duty.
The man with the miniature sword nodded, returning it to his robes. "The ten of us must be of one mind. This time, we absolutely must capture and kill Shen Bai."
Everyone nodded in unison, saying nothing more.
Only the woman on his left spoke. "What about the timing? When will this happen?"
The man answered slowly, "I have already been patiently communicating with this Deceitful Object. To activate its effect will require three days. Three days isn’t long, but it’s not short either. It’s enough time."
’Three days?’
The group pondered for a moment, then nodded in unison.
That was indeed enough time for them.
"When the time comes, we will find our positions and remain Hidden. The moment Shen Bai arrives, we attack."
Only they understood the significance of the chain reaction Shen Bai’s arrival had triggered.
These were not upstanding citizens. They were all notorious figures from various Demonic Forces.
Even the weakest among them was an Elder of a local Demonic Force.
The man and the woman, for example, were the heads of their respective factions.
