Chapter 366: Chapter 304: Super Evolution: Gene Weapon (Part 2)

Then came the brewing, pouring, and drinking of tea. The two men chatted and laughed, appearing for all the world like close friends.

Ten minutes later.

The office finally fell silent.

Wu Qingjing drank his tea.

Councillor Liang, for his part, gently rubbed his teacup.

"Something on your mind?" Wu Qingjing finally spoke after a long wait.

"Regarding the Speaker election in four months, I’ve discussed it with Old Li and the others. We’ve decided to support Speaker Wu’s re-election. I wonder what Speaker Wu thinks of this?" Councillor Liang said, taking another sip of tea.

"Re-election? Heh, since the Federation Council was founded, has there ever been a re-election?" Hearing this, a faint smile touched the corners of Wu Qingjing’s mouth.

"Just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it can’t. If both our factions offer their support, I imagine any objections from a third party would be a minor issue, wouldn’t you agree, Speaker Wu?" Councillor Liang replied with a smile.

"Just say what you came to say." Wu Qingjing waved his hand dismissively.

"It’s simple. Just hand over Gao Neng and Fang Tangtang to us, and we’ll give you our full support for your re-election!" Councillor Liang nodded, dropping all pretense.

"Impossible!" Wu Qingjing refused outright.

"Why be so stubborn? Our goal is to face the external threat together. There’s no need for internal disputes. What we’re doing is for the victory of the Human Alliance. You should understand that!"

"To strip a person of their freedom, then turn them into a living specimen for your genetic research? I’d rather do without that kind of victory!" A cold glint flashed in Wu Qingjing’s eyes.

"What do you mean, ’living specimen’? We’re just developing his genes! Gao Neng has twenty maxed-out talents. This is a form of evolution, do you understand? An evolution we know nothing about! His body must hold unknown secrets. As long as he cooperates with our research, we might be able to replicate his genes. When that happens, the Alliance won’t just have one Gao Neng, but ten, or even a hundred! Do you have any idea what that means?"

"Winning by any means necessary?"

"The Alliance has reached this point; humanity is on the brink of annihilation. At a time like this, how can we still talk about means? Let’s not even talk about Gao Neng for a second. What about Fang Tangtang? A human nuke! She is the result of research we started twenty years ago. Now that this result has appeared, we want to take her with us. What’s the problem?"

"Then what about Fang Haotian’s death? How do you explain that?"

"Fang Haotian’s death was an accident. Speaker Wu, you should be well aware of this. We only took control of his wife to make him continue cooperating with the research. But who knew... he would get so emotional? It wasn’t something we wanted to happen. Moreover, his wife’s death had nothing to do with us. After Fang Haotian died, his wife wanted to follow him in death. We couldn’t stop her!" Councillor Liang sighed.

"Enough. There’s no more need for discussion. There is no room for negotiation on this matter. I will absolutely not hand Gao Neng and Fang Tangtang over to you! I have other business to attend to. Councillor Liang, please see yourself out. I won’t escort you!" As Wu Qingjing finished speaking, he stood up, signaling that Councillor Liang could leave.

"Wu Qingjing, the Alliance doesn’t belong to you alone! The human nuke has appeared. If we don’t seize this opportunity, humanity will be annihilated in a year and a half. That’s a responsibility you can’t bear!"

"Get out!"

"Teacher Wu!!! I’m begging you, alright? How about this... we’ll take a step back. You can choose one: Gao Neng or Fang Tangtang. You want to stand by your ideals, you want human rights, fine! But we have to be more realistic, don’t we? The Human Alliance can’t afford to wait. We’re out of time. If we can’t cultivate a ’genetic weapon’ capable of turning the tide of war in a short time, how are we supposed to fight the great war in a year and a half?!" Councillor Liang’s face was slightly flushed.

"Liang Qi! If you still consider me your teacher, then get the hell out! And I’m warning you, Gao Neng and Fang Tangtang aren’t some weapons. They are human beings! Furthermore, Gao Neng is a super genius who could potentially become one of the Strongest. You can’t find another genius like him in hundreds of millions of people, don’t you get it? He is the hope of our Human Alliance!"

"Hope is something you hold in your own hands! He isn’t a Strongest yet. He’s just a useless Rank-5. If you throw him onto the battlefield now, it’s a death sentence. He can’t even kill a single high-ranker. But if you hand him over to me, in one year at most, I can cultivate dozens, even hundreds of ’genetic weapons’ just like him. Think about it... genetic weapons with twenty maxed-out talents. What will happen when they get to the battlefield? That would be enough to change the entire war! Teacher, wake up! Stop being so merciful. If the Human Alliance wants to survive, we can’t be so conservative. We need to resort to some unconventional methods!"

"Unconventional methods? Turning a living, breathing person into a genetic weapon, that’s what you call an unconventional method? Even if I die, I will never agree to such a thing!"

"Teacher..."

"Get out!"

"Fine, Teacher, I’ll get out! But don’t forget, you only have four months left. After four months, the Speaker’s seat will no longer be yours!"

"Is that so? But are you so certain that you’ll be the one sitting in the Speaker’s chair in four months?"

"Heh heh... Teacher, I was your most promising student, after all. Whether or not I can take the Speaker’s seat... you should know the answer better than anyone!" Liang Qi smiled.

"..." Wu Qingjing’s fists clenched instantly.

"Well, Teacher, I’m leaving. By the way, the tea you brew... is as memorable as ever!" After speaking, Liang Qi turned and walked towards the office door.

"CRASH!"

The tea set, along with the cups, all fell to the floor.

Wu Qingjing’s knuckles turned white from clenching his fists.

Just then, the female secretary who had left earlier walked back in. Seeing the shattered teacups on the floor, her expression remained unchanged.

"Chairman, Dean Lan is on the phone asking for your instructions on what to do next."

"Tell him to bring Gao Neng to my office..."

"Yes!"

"Wait, don’t bring him to my office. Tell him to arrange for Gao Neng to visit the ’Genetic Weapon Laboratory’!" Wu Qingjing said quickly as he saw the secretary about to leave.

"Understood!" The secretary nodded.

...

Liang Qi walked out.

He took the elevator straight down to the 8th floor.

This was his office floor, and he knew someone was waiting for him inside. However, he had no idea that he would run into Li Tiannan the moment he stepped out of the elevator.

Yes.

Li Tiannan was standing right at the elevator doors.

"Elder Li? What are you doing here?" Liang Qi’s eyes narrowed slightly. A Military War God... the status of this Strongest was naturally not something he, a mere member of the Federation Council, could compare to.

"Come here." Li Tiannan beckoned to Liang Qi with his finger.

"Elder Li, were you looking for me for..."

"SLAP!"

Liang Qi didn’t get to finish his sentence before a slap landed squarely on his face.

This made Liang Qi’s expression stiffen. He looked at Li Tiannan with unconcealed confusion, because he couldn’t recall having any sort of grudge or feud with this Military War God.

"My hand was itching, so I felt like slapping you. You don’t have a problem with that, do you?" Li Tiannan raised his palm and waved it in front of Liang Qi’s eyes.

"No problem at all. But, since Elder Li has graced me with this slap, you must at least have a word of advice for me, right?" Liang Qi didn’t cover his cheek like most people would, nor did he show any anger. His chest just heaved a few times before he regained his composure. Moreover, there was no trace of servility in his tone.

"Mm, not bad. You haven’t disgraced your teacher. Since you’re asking for advice, I’ll be direct. Gao Neng is my man." Li Tiannan nodded. Then, without giving Liang Qi another chance to speak, he turned and left, disappearing in an instant.

Liang Qi stared at the spot where Li Tiannan had vanished. He didn’t say another word, nor did he show any trace of anger. He simply continued walking towards his office.
