Chapter 328: Chapter 273: Evolution: Ghostly Stealth

"A very thorough check?!" Gao Neng’s expression changed. He was truly bitter on the inside. ’The more thorough your check is, the more worried I get, right?’

Of course, he couldn’t say that out loud.

Besides, judging by the attitudes of Sect Leader Hua, Shen Ning’Er, and the others, the two men in front of him represented the United Council. He had no way of refusing.

"Is there a problem?" one of the middle-aged men asked again.

"I don’t have a problem. I’m just afraid your institute’s machines might explode," Gao Neng said honestly. A comprehensive examination would surely include testing his talents.

"Heh heh... Our United Council’s machines have never exploded before. You’re worrying for nothing, Gao Neng," the middle-aged man chuckled, a glint flashing in his eyes.

Then, the two men’s gazes turned to the unconscious Fang Tangtang.

After exchanging a look, the two began to approach Fang Tangtang.

One step.

Two steps.

Three steps.

"Fang Tangtang isn’t awake yet," Gao Neng said.

"Mm," the two middle-aged men nodded, but they didn’t stop walking. One of them even reached a hand toward Fang Tangtang’s head.

"I said she isn’t awake yet!" Gao Neng repeated, stepping directly in front of the two men. The outstretched hand involuntarily pulled back.

"Gao Neng, what do you think you’re doing? We’re from the United Council. We just want to wake her up to give her the notification," the two middle-aged men said, looking confused.

"Tangtang isn’t awake yet. Could you give her notification to me? I’ll pass it along," Shen Ning’Er’s voice rang out just then as she appeared by Gao Neng’s side.

"Pass it along?" The two men exchanged another glance, then looked at Fang Tangtang on the ground, seeming to hesitate.

"The Military Department will guarantee her safety," Shen Ning’Er said again.

"Understood... Then we’ll trouble you, Lieutenant Colonel Shen. The time and place remain the same!" Looking at Shen Ning’Er, the two men finally handed over the third golden card.

"Alright." Shen Ning’Er nodded and accepted the card.

The two middle-aged men glanced at Fang Tangtang again, then at Gao Neng and Shen Ning’Er. Without another word, they turned and left.

"Why did you stop them from approaching Tangtang? They’re from the United Council. Offending them won’t do you any good," Shen Ning’Er asked unhurriedly as she watched the two men walk away.

"Then why did you stop them?" Gao Neng casually retorted.

"It’s because... Never mind, let’s go." Shen Ning’Er started to speak, but then swallowed her words. Instead, she bent down and lifted Fang Tangtang from the ground.

The reporters who had just scattered saw this and immediately started to swarm in again.

"Whoops, my hand is so slippery... I can’t control it at all! It must be an aftereffect. Everyone, look! My blade... why is it randomly slashing at people?" Gao Neng raised his blade and began to swing it wildly, shouting all the while.

"Ah!"

"Quick... run!"

The reporters knew exactly what Gao Neng was doing.

But they could only run. Gao Neng had just been rated S-rank by the Dragon List. They couldn’t afford to offend someone with his future status.

"Gao Neng!" Sect Leader Hua called out.

"Sect Leader Hua, what is it?" Gao Neng stopped.

"You think you can just leave like that? Leaving aside everything else, shouldn’t you compensate us for these two Alloy Arenas?" Sect Leader Hua said, pointing at the two ruined platforms.

It was obvious that Sect Leader Hua needed to regain some face for his two disciples.

His disciples had lost.

He couldn’t blame anyone for that; he had no complaints. However, making Gao Neng compensate for the damaged Alloy Arenas—on that point, no one else could complain either.

"I have to pay for an arena destroyed during a match?" Gao Neng looked bewildered.

"If it was damaged during a normal match, then of course you wouldn’t have to pay. But you damaged it intentionally, so that’s different!" Sect Leader Hua said with a dark expression.

"This *is* normal damage. Look, Sect Leader Hua, how normal is this!" Gao Neng pointed to one arena that had half-collapsed and another that was riddled with holes.

"You call this normal?!" two Elders shouted, stepping forward.

That kid was lying through his teeth!

A normal match, like the one between Shen Ning’Er and Cheng Cai, had been just as intense, but at most, it had only left a few marks on the arena.

But this guy...

He had gotten up there and, without a second thought, destroyed half of the arena.

The worst part was, his challenge match against Fang Tangtang had nothing to do with the Huashan Ancient Sect. And the result? Her Electromagnetic Cannon had gone on a rampage and ruined another one. Did he really think they were blind?

"Gao Neng, I can let the matter of your fight with Qu Ran slide. But the damage from your fight with Fang Tangtang—it’s not too much to ask you to compensate for it, is it?" Sect Leader Hua spoke again.

Shen Ning’Er, holding Fang Tangtang, looked toward Gao Neng.

She said nothing.

But her meaning was obvious...

He had to solve this himself.

Gao Neng felt he was being wronged. ’If I don’t have to pay for the first arena, then I definitely shouldn’t have to pay for the second one. After all, Fang Tangtang was the one who blasted it.’

’However, from the looks of it, the Huashan Ancient Sect just needs a way to save face. If that’s the case, their asking price probably won’t be too high.’

"Name your price. How much?" Gao Neng didn’t waste any more words.

"Twenty million. An Alloy Arena of this quality costs at least fifty million to build. Even just for repairs, twenty million is merely the base cost!" one of the Elders said.

"Twenty million? That’s highway robbery!" Gao Neng was shocked.

He was sure the Elder from the Huashan Ancient Sect probably wasn’t lying to him, but having to pay twenty million for one arena was still rather unexpected.

After all, he’d thought it would be twenty thousand, tops!

"Gao Neng, our Huashan Ancient Sect has thousands of years of history. Do you really think we would try to swindle you? I told you, twenty million is just the cost!" the Elder said, his brow furrowing.
