Chapter 43: Chapter 42: Li Kuang Escaped
After separating from the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps, Tang Yi didn’t leave the Wind Moon Forest. Instead, he circled back. Once the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps had left, he returned to the scene where he had killed Zhangg Yuxi and the others.
Looking at the several bodies lying in pools of blood, Tang Yi extended his hand, and a small, purple flame appeared in his palm.
The people from the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps had just been there, and he hadn’t wanted to reveal his Exotic Fire. That was why he waited for them to leave before returning to the scene to destroy the bodies and erase all traces.
FWOOSH!
The small purple flame split into several wisps, each landing on a body. Instantly, the fire flared, making a sizzling sound. The dark night was abruptly filled with a brilliant purple light. In moments, the bodies turned to countless specks of ash and vanished into the air.
Other than the pools of blood on the ground and the black ashes, not a single trace remained of Zhangg Yuxi and his men.
"Hm?"
After incinerating the bodies with the Three Thousand Flame Flames, Tang Yi suddenly felt that something was wrong. He then did a count.
One, two, three, four, five...
Five bodies? One was missing!
Li Kuang plus the later arrivals, Zhangg Yuxi and his men—that should have been six bodies in total. Yet, he could only see five.
’What’s going on?’
’The people from the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps wouldn’t have taken a body. Could a Demon Beast have dragged it away?’
’Could it be... Dammit!’
After a moment of careful thought, Tang Yi cursed himself for his carelessness.
He had struck Li Kuang with a palm strike earlier but hadn’t confirmed if he was dead. At the time, he saw him lying on the ground, having lost all his Combat Power, and paid him no more mind.
After the battle ended, he was preoccupied with talking to Liuu Tian and the others, forgetting to confirm that all the bodies were, in fact, dead. He never expected one to slip through the net.
’The one missing body must be Li Kuang’s. He might not have been dead. And while I was gone with the Nine Cities Mercenary Corps, he took the opportunity to escape!’
’This is really bad!’
’Li Kuang is a member of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps. If he gets back to them, it will definitely stir up unnecessary trouble!’
Furthermore, Tang Yi had killed Zhangg Yuxi, a core member of the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps. There was no way the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps would let Tang Yi off the hook!
Tang Yi hastily scanned the area, hoping to find some clue—any sign of Li Kuang’s escape route. But no matter how hard he looked, he couldn’t find a single trace of Li Kuang.
Besides, the scene was a complete mess—a field of dust, blood, and shattered rock. Trying to find a clue in a place like this was harder than climbing to heaven.
"Sigh... What’s fated to happen, will happen. There’s no escaping it."
Tang Yi sighed. He had originally come back to destroy the evidence, but unfortunately, his efforts had been for nothing. The biggest loose end had gotten away.
However, he wasn’t overly worried. ’What’s coming will come; there’s no escaping it. As long as my strength reaches a certain level, so what if the Wolf Heaven Mercenary Corps finds me?’
’They wouldn’t be able to touch me.’
Therefore, Tang Yi only searched for a short while before giving up. Then, with a flicker of his body, he headed deeper into the Wind Moon Forest.
Although Tang Yi’s current strength meant he no longer had to fear anyone in the Tang Family, only one day of the three-day agreement with Tang Mingtian had passed. There was no need to return to the Tang Family so soon.
Besides, he could use this time to level up rapidly and return with overwhelming power. Then, he wouldn’t have to worry about the so-called geniuses of the Tang Family or figures like the Seventh Elder being unconvinced.
’And if they’re still not convinced, I’ll just beat them until they are.’
And so, Tang Yi ventured deeper into the forest once more to hunt High Level Demon Beasts and gain more Experience Value.
Previously, he had only been fighting some Level 1 and Level 2 Demon Beasts on the outskirts. Now, he planned to enter the Level 3 and even Level 4 zones to kill some High Level Demon Beasts.
He had used Mountain Shattering Earth Splitting Slash once during his fight with Zhangg Yuxi, leaving him with 20 Battle God Points. If he kept 10 points in reserve for emergencies, Tang Yi could still afford to "waste" one Finishing Move on grinding monsters.
’I have to make the most of this opportunity,’ Tang Yi thought. ’I’ll pull more mobs and maximize my gains.’
As he pondered this, Tang Yi couldn’t help but sigh. ’It would be great if I had more Battle God Points. Then I wouldn’t have to be so meticulous.’
Tang Yi had also started to figure out the pattern for acquiring Battle God Points. Besides the initial reward, subsequent points were earned by completing missions and killing key figures in those missions.
He got 10 points for killing Tang Fangzhou and 30 points for completing the mission.
’It seems completing missions yields more Battle God Points.’
However, Tang Yi hadn’t received any new missions from the system yet, so there was no way to get more Battle God Points for now.
’When I do get a mission in the future, I’ll have to complete it proactively. That’s the only way to earn more Battle God Points.’
SWISH! SWISH!
Tang Yi moved as if on wings, heading straight for the depths of the Wind Moon Forest. He ignored any Level 1 or Level 2 Demon Beasts he encountered along the way, pressing onward without stopping.
After walking for about ten minutes, Tang Yi finally ran into a dozen or so Third-level Demon Beasts. It seemed he had entered the area of Third-level Demon Beasts.
The fur of these dozen or so Demon Beasts came in various colors—some Red, some white, and some black. Each one was different. They were Demon Beasts that looked similar to cats from Earth, the only differences being their red eyes and extremely long limbs.
Unlike the short-legged cats of Earth, these were more like monsters with the head of a cat but the body of a monkey. Tang Yi cast a Celestial Eye Technique on one and obtained the Demon Beast’s information.
Name: Bloodthirsty Cat Demon
Level: 23 (Third-level Demon Beast)
Description: A pack-dwelling creature with extremely fast Speed. Becomes frenzied at the sight of blood. Its long limbs are tipped with razor-sharp claws that can tear through an enemy’s Armor.
Assessment: Middle Level threat.
If an ordinary Battle Grandmaster were to encounter such a Demon Beast, there would be no other outcome than being run down and killed.
But Tang Yi was different. He had Phantom Step, had consumed many Speed Pills, and his Speed was even faster than that of a typical Battle Spirit. Therefore, dealing with these Demon Beasts renowned for their speed would be a simple matter.
’Time to begin the grand enterprise of pulling mobs!’
CRACK!
A stone went flying toward the head of a Bloodthirsty Cat Demon, but the Cat Demon’s reactions were extremely sharp and its Speed was incredibly fast. With a flicker of its body, WHOOSH, it dodged. Tang Yi’s stone missed the Cat Demon.
However, this managed to infuriate the pack of Bloodthirsty Cat Demons.
A dozen pairs of crimson eyes locked onto Tang Yi, and then, they charged him.
Tang Yi had been annoyed that his stone had missed the Cat Demon, but seeing this result, it was clear his objective had been achieved.
Activating Phantom Step, he kited the Bloodthirsty Cat Demons, running deeper into the Wind Moon Forest.
Along the way, Tang Yi ran into wave after wave of Bloodthirsty Cat Demons, but surprisingly, not a single other type of Demon Beast.
’Looks like I’ve entered the exclusive territory of the Bloodthirsty Cat Demons,’ he thought. ’Maybe a big Cat Demon BOSS will even appear here.’
The moment he thought of a BOSS, Tang Yi’s heart burned with excitement, his mind filled with thoughts of Experience Value and treasure rewards.
As the saying goes, speak of the devil. Just as Tang Yi was wondering if there might be a big Bloodthirsty Cat Demon BOSS here, a Cat Demon bathed in a blood-red glow appeared right before his eyes.
