Chapter 13: Chapter 12: The Seat Dispute
"Brother Tang Yi, sit here!" Tang Lian called out, pointing to the seat beside her.
"Unacceptable!"
"You can’t sit there!"
"This is not allowed!"
The seat Tang Lian pointed to was in the row reserved for the Elders. Of course, no one minded Tang Lian sitting there, but if Tang Yi sat there...
Wouldn’t that mean Tang Yi’s position was equal to that of the Elders?
How could a piece of trash who couldn’t cultivate be on par with the Elders?
How could anyone present, be they an Elder or a member of the younger generation, accept this?
How could the younger generation possibly accept this?
And so, they couldn’t let Tang Yi sit there.
But despite everyone’s vocal objections, nothing could stop Tang Yi’s determination to sit beside Tang Lian.
Tang Lian had invited him. How could Tang Yi possibly yield to a mob of nobodies?
Sit!
Ignoring everyone’s objections, Tang Yi swiftly walked to Tang Lian’s side and sat down.
"How audacious!"
"Tang Yi, you...!"
"You brat, you’re courting death!"
Several of the Elders were furious!
Tang Yi’s actions were a blatant challenge to their authority!
If word of this got out, how would people view them, the Elders of the Tang Family?
Elders sitting as equals with a piece of trash who couldn’t cultivate? What an absolute joke!
On the Saint Martial Continent, the strong are revered. No matter where this story spread, they would become a laughingstock.
The members of the Shangguan Family watched this scene, slightly astonished. ’This piece of trash from the Tang Family has become this lawless,’ they thought.
’He has no respect for his superiors, challenging the rules of the Saint Martial Continent. With no strength of his own, he still dares to sit as an equal with the Elders and defy their wishes. What audacity.’
However, this was ultimately not the Shangguan Family’s affair, so it wasn’t their place to intervene. They could only glare at Tang Yi to express their dissatisfaction.
The strong are revered—this was a universal truth on the Saint Martial Continent. If Tang Yi were an expert of considerable strength, he could, of course, sit wherever he pleased. Unfortunately, he was just a piece of trash who couldn’t cultivate. How could he possibly sit in a seat of honor?
"What’s wrong? There’s an empty seat. Am I not allowed to sit in it?" Tang Yi retorted with a dismissive curl of his lip. ’A seat’s a seat, what’s the big deal?’
"This is not a seat for you!" the Seventh Elder roared, his anger boiling over.
"Why not?" Tang Yi asked coolly.
"Why not? Heh!" The Seventh Elder sneered, his gaze turning sinister. "Take a look at yourself! What gives a junior, a piece of trash who can’t cultivate, the right to sit as our equal?"
In the Tang Family, aside from the Clan Leader Tang Haotian, the Seventh Elder held the highest position. The reason Tang Fangzhou dared to be so arrogant was because of his relationship with the Seventh Elder.
So now, with Tang Yi brazenly taking a seat of honor, the one who was most displeased—and the first to jump up and condemn him—was, of course, the Seventh Elder.
"Tang Yi, you’ve got some nerve today! How dare you show such disrespect for your superiors, completely disregarding the Elders and the other Tang Family disciples! Do you even want to remain in the Tang Family?!" Tang Fangzhou also barked.
Seeing Tang Yi sitting next to Tang Lian and his own grandfather publicly rebuking him, Tang Fangzhou no longer cared about giving the Clan Leader any face.
’So what if Tang Yi is the Clan Leader’s son? He’s still a piece of trash, that’s a fact. And it’s also a fact that he’s challenging the authority of the Elders.’ At that moment, Tang Fangzhou was already considering whether he should step in and teach Tang Yi a lesson.
"Heh." Tang Yi sneered, his eyes narrowing. He then casually used the Celestial Eye Technique on Tang Fangzhou and the Seventh Elder.
Name: Tang Fangzhou
Level: 16 (Six-star Battle Master)
Cultivation Technique: Starry Sky Technique (Yellow Tier Upper Grade)
Martial Techniques: Star Palm (Yellow Tier Upper Grade), Three Roar Fist (Yellow Tier Upper Grade)
Assessment: Minor Threat (You are slightly stronger than your opponent. They do not pose a significant threat to you.)
...
Name: Tang Feiyin (Tang Family’s Seventh Elder)
Level: 22 (Two-star Battle Grandmaster)
Cultivation Technique: Celestial Star Technique (Profound Tier Lower Grade)
Martial Techniques: Celestial Star Palm (Profound Tier Lower Grade), Six Roar Fist (Profound Tier Lower Grade), Celestial Star Nine Break Sword Technique (Profound Tier Lower Grade), Celestial Star Twelve-Revolution Sword Technique (Profound Tier Lower Grade)
Weapon: Heaven-Listening Treasure Sword
Assessment: Extremely Dangerous (Your strength is not vastly different from your opponent’s, but they can pose a grave threat to you.)
’Oh?’ Tang Yi was slightly startled after seeing Tang Fangzhou’s and the Seventh Elder’s levels with his Celestial Eye Technique.
’I fought tooth and nail to level up last night, ending up a complete mess in tattered clothes, only to reach the level of a Five-Star Battle Master. To think my strength is only about on par with Tang Fangzhou’s. It’s only thanks to my Advanced Cultivation Technique and various Earth Tier Martial Techniques that I’m slightly ahead of him.’
’Without those rewarded Earth Tier Martial Techniques, I’d actually be one level lower than Tang Fangzhou.’
’As for the Seventh Elder, that goes without saying. Right now, I’m not qualified to challenge him. The gap between a Battle Master and a Battle Grandmaster is a massive chasm. Although the level difference doesn’t seem huge, the disparity in strength is night and day.’
’Of course, my Cultivation Technique and Martial Techniques make up for a lot of that disadvantage. Otherwise, the assessment wouldn’t have said our strength wasn’t vastly different.’
’If we were to fight to the death, it’s still uncertain who would come out on top, but I’d only have a ten to twenty percent chance of winning at most.’
’Looks like neither of them are pushovers!’
’But...’
’Should I back down? Give up my seat next to Tang Lian?’
’Impossible!!’
Even setting aside the fact that he had a cheat like the system, it wasn’t in his nature to compromise!
’Why did I seek out a fateful encounter in the first place?’
’It’s because I never wanted to fall behind, never wanted to yield to others, never wanted to yield to the darkness, and never wanted to yield to myself! That’s why I jumped!’
’And now they want me to stand up? To compromise?’
’In their dreams!’
So, after checking Tang Fangzhou’s and the Seventh Elder’s levels, Tang Yi simply sat up a little straighter, with no intention of moving.
Seeing Tang Yi’s defiant posture, the Elders and the Tang Family disciples grew even more furious. They were about to berate him again and demand he stand up—perhaps even resorting to force if he refused—when Tang Haotian, the Tang Family Patriarch, finally spoke.
"Alright, that’s enough. Stop arguing. We have guests present. What kind of impression does a scene like this make? We can deal with any issues later."
"But Tang Yi...!" The Seventh Elder pointed at Tang Yi, still wanting to protest, but a sharp glare from Tang Haotian made him grit his teeth and fall silent.
Seeing Tang Haotian openly shield Tang Yi, the others felt they couldn’t press the matter. After all, Tang Haotian was the Tang Family Patriarch, and they were in front of guests. It was best to resolve internal matters privately. If they openly defied the Clan Leader in front of their guests, it would be an even greater embarrassment.
"Clan Leader Tang, is everyone here now? If so, let’s not waste any more time. Let us begin our official business."
With the Tang Family’s little drama concluded, the elderly man from the Shangguan Family spoke up slowly.
