Chapter 412: Illusion Technique
The woman hadn’t expected the child to be the young miss of the General’s estate. Though she was being held captive, she had heard the palace maids mention the girl once or twice.
"Let her go, and I can pretend I never saw you," Ye Qianning said coldly.
"Aren’t you afraid, little one?" the woman’s pleasant voice rang out.
"What is there to fear? We have no quarrel. If you release her and leave the General’s estate, I promise I won’t breathe a word of this." Ye Qianning heard the sounds of an approaching search party; they would be here very soon.
’If these people were discovered on the grounds of the General’s estate, it would likely cause unnecessary trouble.’
"And why should I believe you?" The woman scrutinized her.
"There are no adults home, and I don’t want any trouble. So you have two choices: one, leave quietly on your own, or two, I let the search party in to arrest you."
"And what if I were to choose a third option?"
"Too bad for you, then." Ye Qianning pulled a small signal flare from her storage space.
’She had little patience for people who could potentially cause trouble.’
The woman didn’t recognize the object, but her intuition screamed that it was dangerous. With no time to think, she staggered to her feet and drew a circle in the air with both hands.
Ye Qianning felt the air currents shift around her. The DRIP... DROP... of the rain in her ears seemed to slow down.
She held a tinder cord in one hand and the signal flare in the other. As she slowly brought them together, her vision suddenly blurred. The tinder cord in her hand had become a pistol.
Surprise filled her eyes. She shook her head. It was, without a doubt, a pistol. And her hands... they weren’t a child’s hands anymore. They were the hands of an adult.
’What’s going on?’
A shocked Ye Qianning looked at her other hand. It was an adult’s hand, too.
The world before her eyes suddenly condensed into a single scene: modern architecture, bodies littering the ground, and destroyed vehicles. It was Country F—the final battle of her past life.
And it was in that battle that her powers had been completely depleted.
No one cared about espers who burned out from overuse. They were just orphans, weapons raised by the base. When they died, no one even came to collect their bodies.
’Is this a lingering vision? Did I just transmigrate back here?’
’Or was her entire life in the past just a dream she had before dying?’
Ye Qianning’s hand, gripping the pistol, was trembling. An old-fashioned clock hung over the entrance of a dilapidated shop nearby, its hands ticking away—TICK... TOCK...
’No, that’s not right.’ Ye Qianning’s entire body jolted. She closed her eyes, listening intently. DRIP... DROP... ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
It wasn’t the sound of a clock; it was the rhythmic patter of rain on the ground.
After a moment of silence, Ye Qianning’s eyes snapped open. As a longsword flew toward her, she deftly caught the blade between two fingers and yanked hard.
The man in black, stunned, was pulled stumbling forward.
She raised her hand and viciously clawed at his waist with her five small fingers, which sank deep into his flesh.
"Aaargh!" the man in black screamed in pain.
The instant Ye Qianning’s mind cleared, she heard the alarmed cries of Zhan Chi and Luo Wen.
She turned to see Zhan Chi’s worried face just a step away. The man in black pursuing him had caught up, driving a longsword through his left shoulder from behind.
Seeing that Ye Qianning was unharmed, Zhan Chi let out a heavy internal sigh of relief, though the panic had yet to fade from his face.
A vicious glint and killing intent flared in Ye Qianning’s eyes. She retracted her fingers, leaving the man’s waist a bloody ruin. Then, with a sharp twist of two fingers—SNAP!—the longsword broke.
Her small hand snatched the broken tip of the blade out of the air and, without a shred of mercy, plunged it into the man in black’s chest.
The entire sequence was swift and fluid.
