Chapter 973: Spring Twilight Ball Planning
The golden afternoon sun bathed the prestigious campus of Yukihime High School in a warm, amber glow. As the final bell chimed, signaling the end of Friday’s classes, a palpable sense of relief swept through the corridors of Elffire City’s elite academy. For the underclassmen, freedom had arrived. First and second-year students eagerly dispersed toward their respective clubs, ready to immerse themselves in sports, arts, and passion projects.
In stark contrast, the third-year wing remained hushed. With the looming specter of college entrance examinations shadowing their every move, the seniors surrendered their afternoons to rigorous study sessions, surrounded by towering stacks of textbooks.
Fortunately, Aurora was a second-year, leaving her perfectly free to pursue her own favorite pastime: ruling the school alongside her closest confidantes.
The heart of her high school experience beat inside the Student Council. The executive board was a tight-knit quartet of inseparable friends. Vivian led the charge as the formidable Student Body President, while Aurora balanced her perfectly as the Vice-President. Carolla managed the finances as Treasurer, and after months working on the job, she acquired a particular taste for the function. Umaru kept the gears turning as Secretary, which she also started showing talent for it. To round out the leadership team, two bright-eyed first-years had been welcomed into the fold: Brenda, who upheld order as the Chief of Justice, and Hanako, who managed relations as the Public Representative.
On this particular May afternoon, the council had gathered in their dedicated briefing room within the Student Council Building to map out the final stretch of the academic term.
"Alright, girls," Vivian began, clapping her hands together to capture everyone’s attention. A bright smile graced her face, though her eyes held the fierce glint of a commander entering battle. "We are less than two months away from summer vacation, which means our most chaotic—and exciting—season is officially upon us." Plus, the special harpin exclusive for presidents adorned her hair, which made her even more inspiring
"Please define ’exciting,’ Madam President," Carolla chimed in, not looking up from her calculator. She aggressively tapped the keys, a dramatic sigh escaping her lips. "Because from where I’m sitting, your ’exciting’ usually translates to ’Carolla needs to magically manifest five thousand credits out of thin air.’"
Umaru spun around in her swivel chair, holding a stack of neatly color-coded folders. "Oh, come on, Carolla! Where is your sense of youthful adventure? I’ve already organized the paperwork into three distinct categories of fun!"
"My sense of adventure died the moment you suggested hiring a live fireworks crew for a spring dance," Carolla deadpanned, finally looking up to flash a dry smile.
"Hey, it was a metaphor for explosive school spirit!" Umaru defended herself, laughing as she waved a hand dismissively.
Vivian chuckled before she offered a subtle nod to her right, passing the floor to her second-in-command. "Anyway, before Carolla stages a financial mutiny, Aurora, give us the breakdown."
Aurora stepped up to the podium, offering a reassuring smile to the group. "To echo our explosive President, the countdown to summer has begun. Our immediate focus centers on two major events before the final bell rings. First up is our traditional Spring Twilight Ball at the end of May. Since today is already the seventh, we have less than three weeks to finalize the decorations, music, and catering."
"I vote for a chocolate fountain," Umaru raised her hand instantly. "For administrative morale, obviously."
"Denied," Carolla muttered, though she was smiling. "Although we have plenty of budget due to the Club Festival, we have so many events and other expenses..." She said with desponted expression
Aurora chuckled, clicking to the next slide on the projector screen, which revealed a colorful world map. "Moving on from chocolate disasters... our second, and arguably grandest, undertaking is the annual Summer School Trip, scheduled right after finals. This journey is a hallmark tradition of Yukihime High. Any student is welcome to join, provided they secure a signed parental consent form."
She leaned against the podium, her tone turning nostalgic. "We have a legacy of incredible destinations; for the past two years, the school traveled to Sakura City and Heartwood Mountains. However, the benchmark was set seven years ago, when the council miraculously secured a budget for a voyage to Shenzhen, Panda Country."
"Ah, the legendary Panda Country trip," Vivian sighed dramatically, leaning back in her chair with a dreamy look. "The school forums still talk about the student council that pulled that off like they were gods walking among mortals."
"They were ’gods’ because they had a great budget flow," Carolla pointed out, though her eyes twinkled with a competitive spark. "But... if we trim the budget on the Spring Ball decorations, I might be able to squeeze out enough funds for somewhere equally spectacular."
Umaru gasped, clapping her hands together. "Are you saying what I think you’re saying? The great Carolla is willing to loosen the purse strings?"
"Only if Umaru promises not to fill out the travel permits in glitter pen this year," Carolla countered, raising an eyebrow.
"It was metallic gel, and it added flair!" Umaru pouted, making the first-years, Brenda and Hanako, giggles softly from the edge of the table.
Aurora smiled at her friends, feeling the familiar warmth of their dynamic. Tapping the financial binder on the table to bring them back to center, she concluded, "While we always distribute student surveys to gauge popularity, the ultimate destination rests in our hands. It falls on us to balance student dreams with our actual administrative budget. Let’s show the school exactly what this council can do."
"Then, let’s start with the Spring Twilight Ball," Vivian said, tapping her pen on the table to officially pivot the agenda.
Instantly, the atmosphere in the room shifted from relaxed Friday afternoon lethargy to a buzz of focused energy. The girls plunged into the details and arrangements with gusto. Fortunately, this wasn’t a frantic, last-minute scramble. The council had wisely laid the groundwork a month prior, mapping out the core logistics before the mid-term rush. Now, with less than three weeks on the clock, it was simply a matter of fine-tuning the machinery they had already set in motion.
"Catering is locked in, and the decorator has already confirmed the floral arches," Umaru announced, ticking off a mental checklist. "We just need to authorize the final playlist and ensure the AV club doesn’t accidentally blast death metal during the slow dances again."
"Please," Carolla sighed, reviewing the receipts. "My heart—and the budget—cannot take another audio equipment emergency."
"Don’t worry, I’ve already drafted a strict compliance memo for the AV club," Brenda said, her voice dropping into her trademark legal drone. "Any unauthorized volume spikes will result in immediate club probation."
Aurora smiled at Brenda’s intensity before shifting her gaze back to her notebook. Her expression grew slightly more serious as she flipped to a flagged page. "The standard logistics are well in hand, but we do have a unique variable to account for this year. Something that requires our absolute, undivided attention."
The table quieted, sensing the shift in her tone. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Right," Vivian nodded, her playful demeanor vanishing, replaced by the poised responsibility of a president. "The exchange program."
"Exactly," Aurora continued, looking around the room. "This year, Yukihime High is playing host to thirty foreign exchange students arriving from the Vytral Continent. They will be attending the ball as our honored guests. This means we need to take extra precautions to ensure they feel welcomed, integrated, and above all, completely safe."
"The Vytral Continent?" Hanako’s eyes went wide with curiosity. "Wow, that’s quite a distance. Their customs and social etiquettes are entirely different from ours, aren’t they?"
"Precisely, Hanako," Aurora validated with a nod. "Which is why we can’t just treat this like a standard school dance. We need dietary accommodations for the banquet, bilingual welcome signs, and a dedicated student liaison team to make sure they aren’t just left standing in the corners of the gymnasium."
Although English and Yamatese were spoken in several countries, as the hosts, the girls knew they needed to show the famous Sakureans’ reception.
"I’m already on it," Umaru said, her pen flying across her notepad as she sketched out a new color-coded system. "We can assign council volunteers as cultural ambassadors for the evening!"
Carolla tapped her calculator, her brow furrowing. "An international delegation means tighter security protocols and a slight adjustment to the hospitality fund. It’s tight, but... if we swap the floral arrangements, we can cover the cost of the welcome banquet without blowing the budget we discussed before."
Vivian smiled proudly at her team. "Brilliant. Let’s lock in those security adjustments first. Once we ensure our guests from Vytral have everything they need to enjoy the night safely, we can finally move on to the next massive headache on our agenda: the summer trip."
