Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Beautiful Elf Doctor
Chapter 42: Beautiful Elf Doctor
—ARIA—
The moment I gave permission, the door immediately opened and Ren entered first.
And what followed behind him made me stop.
I blinked.
Oh.
Oh wow.
A very tall man stepped quietly into my chambers carrying a polished silver medical case in one hand. Long pale-blond hair flowed smoothly over one shoulder, almost white beneath the candlelight, while sharp emerald eyes calmly surveyed the room with unnatural composure.
Then my gaze lowered slightly.
Pointed ears?!
My soul briefly exited my body.
Elf!
There was an actual elf standing inside my room.
A real one.
An actual beautiful fantasy-world elf had just walked directly to heal my emotional breakdown.
What the beautiful baby buns!
The man bowed gracefully the moment our eyes met.
"Lady Aria," he greeted smoothly, his voice calm and low. "I apologize for the delay. I came as soon as I was summoned."
I stared at him.
Then at Ren.
Then back at the elf again.
"...You have elves here?"
Ren looked mildly confused by the question.
The physician himself blinked once before answering politely.
"...Yes?"
Right.
Of course.
To them this was normal.
Meanwhile I was currently trying not to scream internally because fantasy races apparently existed casually in this world and nobody thought to emotionally prepare me for that information beforehand.
The elf stepped closer afterward, entirely unaware that my brain was collapsing.
And honestly...
This man was offensively beautiful.
Not handsome in a normal human way either.
No.
He looked like he had been handcrafted by an overenthusiastic fantasy author who decided mortal standards no longer mattered.
Smooth skin.
Elegant features.
Long lashes.
Sharp jawline.
Perfect posture.
Even his robes looked expensive enough.
This world was deeply unfair.
"My lady must not have seen many of our race," the physician said calmly, clearly noticing my stunned expression. "Most elves remain within the forests protecting them. We are guardians, after all."
His tone carried no arrogance while saying it. If anything, it sounded matter-of-fact.
Then unexpectedly, he gave a small amused laugh and lightly adjusted the gloves around his hands.
"For someone like me who indulged too much in human society..." He paused briefly before smiling faintly. "Well, I am considered somewhat of a reject among my people."
I nearly choked on air.
That was... unexpectedly honest.
And strangely self-aware for someone who looked like he had descended directly from a sacred prophecy.
I coughed awkwardly and tried recovering the situation before my silence became insulting.
"Oh. S-sorry," I said quickly.
Unfortunately, my eyes drifted toward his ears again immediately afterward.
The physician noticed.
A faint smile appeared on his lips, as though he already understood exactly what had captured my entire attention since he entered the room.
"It is your first time meeting an elf?" he asked gently.
Without thinking, I immediately pointed at him.
"Yes."
The answer came out far too fast.
The physician laughed quietly again, and honestly, even that sounded unfairly graceful.
"I suppose the reaction is understandable," he admitted. "Humans tend to stare the first time."
"To be fair," I defended myself immediately, "you look extremely magical."
That only seemed to amuse him further.
"I would hope so," he replied smoothly. "It would be unfortunate if centuries of racial mystique accomplished nothing."
I stared at him for several long seconds.
"...You people are naturally funny too?"
"Only the disappointing ones."
I slapped a hand over my mouth.
No.
Absolutely not.
I refused to get emotionally attached to this beautiful elf doctor less than ten minutes after meeting him.
But unfortunately, my self-control had already begun collapsing.
"May I know your name?" I asked immediately, visibly brightening despite myself.
Behind me, Ren went strangely still.
"My lady," he interrupted quickly before the physician could answer, his tone was calm but noticeably firmer than before. "The physician is here to examine your condition, not entertain conversations."
I blinked at him.
"What does that even mean?"
"It means," Ren replied smoothly while stepping slightly closer beside my chair, "you should focus on recovering first."
Something about the way he said it felt oddly pointed.
Meanwhile, the physician merely watched the exchange with amusement before inclining his head politely toward me anyway.
"It is fine," he said calmly. "My name is Aelith."
The name sounded so painfully elegant that I immediately knew this world was deeply unfair.
"Aelith," I repeated slowly.
Even his name sounded magical.
I noticed Ren’s expression tighten faintly beside me.
"Lady Aria," he said again, a little quieter this time.
I looked at him and smiled.
"Relax," I said casually. "I am only learning his name, not proposing marriage."
Unfortunately, the moment those words left my mouth, the atmosphere shifted strangely.
Ren’s jaw tightened slightly which I noticed.
And somehow, Aelith noticed too.
The elf physician’s pale eyes flickered briefly toward Ren before amusement quietly deepened in his expression.
Then my gaze landed playfully on Aelith again.
"...Yet," I muttered unconsciously.
"My lady."
Ren’s voice came out flatter than before.
Which somehow felt...uncomfortable.
I looked up at him innocently.
"What? I said ’yet,’ not ’immediately.’"
Aelith lowered his head slightly, clearly trying, and failing, not to laugh again.
Meanwhile, Ren looked like a man reconsidering every life decision that led him into my service.
I pointed accusingly at the elf physician afterward.
"Do not encourage me," I told Aelith seriously. "I am currently unstable."
"I noticed," he replied smoothly. "Well, I can see that you have recovered enough to be playful, but I would still prefer to examine you properly before declaring you healthy."
The moment those words left his mouth, Ren’s expression became indescribably complicated.
Meanwhile, I pointed at Aelith again.
"You see?" I told Ren triumphantly. "The doctor understands me."
"I am beginning to regret summoning him," Ren muttered under his breath.
Aelith’s lips curved faintly before he finally stepped closer toward me, setting the polished silver medical case carefully atop the nearby table.
"May I?" he asked politely while extending one gloved hand toward me.
I placed my hand carefully into his.
Immediately, Aelith’s expression shifted subtly.
The teasing amusement faded into a calmer expression and more professional as his fingers lightly turned my wrist upward. His touch felt cool against my skin while two fingers rested gently against my pulse.
I watched him closely.
Mostly because I had never seen an elf this near before.
Partly because his eyelashes were pretty.
Aelith glanced up after several moments only to catch me staring directly at him again.
He then released my wrist afterward before crouching slightly to examine my eyes more closely.
"Look at me for a moment," he instructed gently.
Unfortunately, that instruction immediately felt dangerous.
Still, I obeyed.
His face moved closer, close enough for me to notice faint silver markings near the edge of his ears disappearing beneath his hair.
Everything about elves was pretty.
Aelith lightly lifted my chin between his fingers, his expression calm while studying my eyes carefully beneath the candlelight.
"Your pupils are responding normally," he murmured quietly, mostly to himself. "No visible mana distortion either."
Then suddenly...
"Open your mouth."
I froze.
"...Excuse me?"
Aelith looked entirely unbothered.
"I am examining you, my lady."
Right.
I opened my mouth reluctantly while internally grieving my dignity. freēwebnovel.com
Aelith leaned closer again, one hand lightly tilting my face upward while the other produced a small glowing crystal from his coat pocket.
Even his medical equipment looked magical.
This world refused moderation in everything.
"Hm," he murmured thoughtfully while examining me. "No discoloration."
Then he paused briefly before adding calmly,
"You must have truly frightened your servant earlier. What exactly happened before you collapsed?"
