Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Jiang Suhan Fight For Qiao Meixia

Jiang Lukang had deliberately asked Qiao Meixia this loaded question in front of everyone, fully hoping to induce a wave of guilt in her. He wanted her to feel ashamed for taking away a luxury that technically belonged to Jiang Yanna. Unfortunately for him, the family dynamics did not unfold the way he had so smoothly calculated.

Qiao Meixia slowly lifted her head from her porcelain bowl and stared directly at Jiang Lukang for several quiet, unblinking seconds. Her gaze was entirely hollow of emotion.

"I don’t really care about that." Qiao Meixia answered with absolute calmness before indifferently lowering her gaze back to her meal. "As far as I am concerned, simply having a standard bed to sleep on is already more than enough."

Jiang Lukang nodded, a faint, satisfied smile playing at the corners of his lips. He then turned his gaze toward Jiang Suhan, fully expecting his eldest son to take the obvious hint and stop stubbornly insisting on disrupting the household over a room.

"That is absolutely not enough." Jiang Suhan immediately rejected the notion, his voice sharp and without a single shred of hesitation. "Dad, your real, biological daughter has finally returned to this house after being tragically missing for so many years. You should be doing everything in your power to make it up to her. You can’t just casually shove her into any dark corner of this estate and expect that to be enough."

Every single time Jiang Suhan deliberately emphasised those heavy, pointed words, "biological daughter", Jiang Yanna unconsciously clenched her fists so tightly beneath the table that her manicured nails dug deep into her palms.

Jiang Lukang frowned slightly, his displeasure growing. He had always known his eldest son, and heir, was incredibly stubborn when it came to business matters, but he had never expected him to be this fiercely determined in a domestic dispute. He could not help but wonder why Jiang Suhan was treating Qiao Meixia with such extreme favouritism. It almost felt as though Jiang Suhan had known Qiao Meixia’s true worth long before she had ever set foot back into the Jiang family mansion.

"Fine... Fine..." Jiang Lukang finally let out a heavy sigh of defeat, waving his hand dismissively. "Do whatever you want with the space."

Realising he could not bend his eldest son’s iron will, he finally gave up trying to force Jiang Suhan to abandon the sudden renovation plans.

The moment the decision was finalised, Jiang Yanna’s slender body trembled almost imperceptibly with a mixture of rage and humiliation. Feng Lan noticed her adoptive daughter’s distress immediately. Heart aching for her favourite child, she gently patted Jiang Yanna’s back to comfort her while simultaneously shooting another freezing, venomous glare across the table at Qiao Meixia.

Unfortunately for her, Qiao Meixia did not even spare the mother a single glance. She was far too occupied dealing with the mountain of food that Jiang Suhan kept attentively placing into her bowl.

"Taste this one next." Jiang Suhan smiled warmly, using his chopsticks to pick up another premium dish for her. "The chef prepared it perfectly today; it’s really delicious."

Jiang Suhan had already thoroughly convinced himself that Qiao Meixia must have suffered unimaginable hardships while living outside the protective shelter of the Jiang family. In his mind, she had probably spent years lacking proper nutrition, which perfectly explained why she currently looked so thin, pale, and frail. At that exact moment, he made another silent, solemn resolution to himself. He would make absolutely sure his younger sister would never go hungry again, and she would have every opportunity to enjoy all the luxury and delicious food she had missed out on over the years.

"I really cannot eat another bite." Qiao Meixia finally spoke up, placing her hand over her bowl to stop him before he could pile even more food into her already overflowing dish.

"Oh..." Jiang Suhan paused, staring at the small mountain of food, before smiling sheepishly. "That’s good, then. At least you are finally full."

"The new school term officially starts tomorrow morning." Jiang Lukang suddenly spoke again, shifting the conversation to a matter of status. "Meixia, I will have Butler Jun drive you to complete your official registration tomorrow."

"Okay." Qiao Meixia simply nodded, her expression remaining deadpan.

Jiang Yanna narrowed her eyes slightly, a dangerous gleam flashing through them. She silently made up her mind right then and there. Once Qiao Meixia entered the school, she would make absolutely sure the country bumpkin received a proper, unforgettable "welcome."

After all, the prestigious First Hannan School was entirely Jiang Yanna’s home territory. She was highly popular, deeply entrenched in the social circles, and knew practically everyone of influence there. Ruining Qiao Meixia’s life at school would be effortless.

"Dad, is she really going to study at our school?" Jiang Chinan asked, his voice filled with a look of obvious disbelief and distaste.

"Of course she is." Jiang Lukang nodded firmly.

As the patriarch, he fully intended to officially introduce Qiao Meixia to high society as a true member of the Jiang family. How could he possibly damage his own reputation by sending his flesh and blood to some ordinary, low-class public school?

The absolute best educational institution in the entire city was First Hannan School. It was a massive, elite academy that offered everything from kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, and high school all the way to a top-tier university. Countless prominent, wealthy, and politically influential families sent their heirs there. It was universally regarded as the most prestigious academy in the entire region.

"Dad, I am just a little worried that Sister Meixia would not be able to keep up with the rigorous lessons." Jiang Yanna spoke up gently, her voice instantly shifting into a tone filled with deep, apparent sisterly concern. "Her background is... a bit different, after all."
