Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Fire The Maid

"Dismiss her immediately." Jiang Lukang ordered coldly, his voice echoing with finality.

The maid’s eyes widened in sheer terror as reality set in. "Master! No! Master, please, you have to forgive me! I was wrong!"

"Drag her out of my sight." Jiang Lukang commanded, his gaze flicking toward the guards.

Butler Jun immediately signalled to two sturdy servants standing by the doorway to drag the sobbing maid out.

No matter how much the maid wailed, clawed desperately at the floor, or begged for a second chance, her pleas were entirely ignored as she was forcibly dragged away into the dark hallway, her cries fading into the distance.

The formal dining room fell into a heavy, oppressive silence once again.

Jiang Lukang took a long, stabilising breath before finally turning his sharp attention back to Qiao Meixia.

"I will personally ensure that you receive a proper explanation and absolute justice regarding this matter." Jiang Lukang stated, attempting to sound like a responsible father fulfilling his parental duties.

"Oh." Qiao Meixia responded with a single, completely indifferent syllable.

Jiang Lukang immediately felt another sharp, throbbing headache coming on. For some infuriating reason, every single time he tried to act like a concerned and protective father, Qiao Meixia responded with such complete indifference that it felt as though she were speaking to a total stranger. It was as if his patriarchal authority, his sudden concern, and even his grand gestures meant absolutely nothing to her.Jiang Lukang immediately felt another sharp, throbbing headache coming on. For some infuriating reason, every single time he tried to act like a concerned and protective father, Qiao Meixia responded with such complete indifference that it felt as though she were speaking to a total stranger. It was as if his patriarchal authority, his sudden concern, and even his grand gestures meant absolutely nothing to her.

Meanwhile, seated only a short distance away, Jiang Yanna lowered her eyes to conceal the flicker of genuine uneasiness building within them. She had not expected the household servants to become this bold and reckless, nor had she expected her father to become so intensely furious over an incident involving Qiao Meixia.

For the very first time, a cold realization settled heavily in Jiang Yanna’s heart. No matter how dissatisfied her parents might be with Qiao Meixia’s rigid personality or her complete lack of high-society social grace, one solid fact would never change.

Qiao Meixia was the Jiang family’s biological daughter. And if incidents like this continued to happen, her parents might slowly, perhaps even unconsciously, begin paying much more attention to the daughter they had been separated from for eighteen long years.

The sudden threat to her own pampered position was no longer merely a distant possibility. It was gradually becoming a terrifying reality.

After the dramatic atmosphere finally calmed down, the family dinner resumed. A trembling servant quickly replaced Qiao Meixia’s bowl with a perfectly clean one. This time around, absolutely no one on the staff dared to play any tricks.

However, both Feng Lan and Jiang Yanna had already completely lost their appetites.

Feng Lan had lost hers because the mere thought of the contaminated bowl had deeply disgusted her refined senses. As for Jiang Yanna, she could no longer focus on eating because her mind was entirely occupied with frantic thoughts of how to further weaken Qiao Meixia’s standing within the household before she lost her own leverage.

Meanwhile, Qiao Meixia ate her meal calmly, acting as if absolutely nothing out of the ordinary had happened. After finishing her food, she was just about to stand up from the table when Jiang Lukang suddenly called out to her.

"Qiao Meixia."

Qiao Meixia paused her movements and turned her head to look at him.

"Hmm?" Qiao Meixia tilted her head slightly, her gaze steady.

"Come to my private study after dinner. I have an important matter I need to discuss with you." Jiang Lukang said, his tone commanding.

"Hmm..." Qiao Meixia nodded briefly.

Jiang Lukang had already finished his own food. He wiped his mouth with a linen napkin before standing up from his seat at the head of the table.

"Come with me now." Jiang Lukang stated, expecting Qiao Meixia to follow him.

Qiao Meixia silently followed his retreating figure down the hallway and into the study. After entering the grand room, Jiang Lukang sat down heavily behind his large executive desk and gestured firmly for her to take a seat across from him.

Qiao Meixia sat down smoothly without saying a single word, calmly waiting for him to speak his mind.

"Since you have successfully returned to the Jiang family, you cannot continue living your life as carelessly and unrefined as you did before." Jiang Lukang began, leaning slightly forward to project his authority. "You also absolutely cannot become an embarrassment to the prestigious Jiang family’s name in high society."

Qiao Meixia remained completely silent, calmly watching his tense posture and listening to his lecture without a single shred of fear.

"So, I have officially decided to transfer you to the same elite academy that Yanna and Chinan currently attend. You will be placed in the exact same grade level as Yanna." Jiang Lukang stated firmly. He paused briefly, narrowing his eyes to gauge her reaction before continuing. "If anyone asks about your specific relationship with Yanna, you will explicitly tell them that the two of you are fraternal twins, and that you previously lived secluded in the countryside due to poor health reasons. Do you understand?"

"School?" Qiao Meixia frowned slightly when she heard that particular, foreign word.

"What? You don’t want to go?" Jiang Lukang immediately furrowed his brow deeply, instantly misinterpreting her mild hesitation as defiance.
