Chapter 51: Chapter 51: Demand The Spare Key Too
Qiao Meixia glanced coldly one last time at the unpleasant, sullen expressions on Feng Lan’s and Jiang Yanna’s faces before silently turning around and following Butler Jun.
As they walked down the upper-floor corridor, Qiao Meixia spoke up, her voice dropping to a calm, direct tone.
"Butler Jun, give me the key to my room." Qiao Meixia said.
Butler Jun had already fully anticipated this exact request from her. He reached into his vest pocket, retrieved a polished silver key, and handed it over to her securely.
"I want the spare key as well." Qiao Meixia added, her voice completely flat and expressionless.
"But Miss Qiao, according to standard household safety protocol, someone from the staff should always keep the spare key for emergency and maintenance purposes." Butler Jun explained hesitantly, pausing outside her door.
"There is absolutely no need for that." Qiao Meixia shook her head, her tone leaving absolutely no room for further discussion. "If I leave the spare key with the staff, those people will simply demand it from you whenever they want to enter my room behind my back. I don’t like strangers barging into my private space. Just give me both keys. Otherwise, I will hire an outside locksmith and replace the entire lock tomorrow morning."
Butler Jun fell completely silent for a moment after hearing her sharp words. He could not deny that her underlying concern was completely reasonable, especially after the young master’s volatile actions the day before.
"I understand your perspective, Miss Qiao. I will personally ensure the spare key is handed over to you tomorrow. It is currently not on my person at the moment." Butler Jun said, ultimately choosing to give in to her practical demands.
"Hmm..." Qiao Meixia responded with a brief nod before unlocking the door and stepping inside.
She closed the door firmly behind her and quietly looked around the room, carefully examining the structural changes.
The room was noticeably different from the sparse and almost insulting setup she had been given when she first arrived. Previously, it had contained nothing more than a small closet, a basic single bed, a simple desk, and a single wooden chair. It had looked far more like a temporary, low-class guest room than a bedroom meant for a real family member.
Now, that small closet had been completely replaced with a spacious, high-quality, medium-sized wardrobe. The single bed had been significantly upgraded to a comfortable queen-sized frame with fresh linens, and the flimsy desk and chair had also been swapped out for a much larger, far better-quality furniture set.
With these changes, the room finally looked like a proper, respectable bedroom rather than a temporary, low-class guest room.
Qiao Meixia immediately locked the door from the inside before placing her personal belongings down on the new desk.
After that, she reached into her hidden gear, took out two miniature wireless cameras, and discreetly began installing them in strategic, completely hidden locations around the room. One camera was perfectly positioned to monitor the main doorway. The other was aimed directly at the window frame.
The people residing in the Jiang family mansion were far too volatile and unpredictable. She had absolutely no intention of allowing anyone to destroy her belongings again without concrete, undeniable evidence.
After washing up in the bathroom and changing into a set of clean, comfortable clothes, she suddenly heard a sharp, impatient knock on the bedroom door.
Qiao Meixia walked over and opened it.
A young maid servant was standing outside in the hallway. Judging from the servant’s rigid posture and arrogant expression, the woman clearly looked down on her, treating her like an unwanted outsider.
"Master is calling everyone down to the dining room for dinner. You should go down now." The servant said coldly, before immediately turning around and walking away without even waiting for a polite response.
Qiao Meixia remained completely silent, her face unreadable. She stepped out of the room and immediately locked the door securely behind her with a soft click.
