Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Mysterious Jade Pendant
"Hmm? Why are you suddenly asking?" Lin Yunzhu tilted her head slightly. "I already went to the toilet when I woke up this morning."
"Oh..." Zhou Feng muttered, cursing inwardly. *Damn it, I miscalculated.*
Lin Yunzhu smiled warmly and patted his clothes, straightening them out. "Alright, let’s go out and have some fun today. You’ve been such a good boy lately. Mommy will buy you whatever you want."
If this had been the old Zhou Feng, he would have been jumping with joy. But now, his mind was completely occupied with thoughts of the Divine Pupil and his growing plans.
"Thank you, Mom," he replied calmly.
Lin Yunzhu noticed his subdued reaction. "What’s wrong? You seem a little unhappy. Is it because of what your father left you yesterday?"
"No, I’m fine," Zhou Feng said quickly, forcing a smile. "How could I be unhappy when we’re going out to play? Let’s go, Mom!"
"Alright, alright." Although she sensed something was different about her son lately, Lin Yunzhu decided not to press him. Everyone had their own secrets.
The mother and son put on their shoes and took the elevator downstairs. Their old residential complex still had an elevator — a remnant of its past glory. After a short discussion, they decided to visit Wuyue Square, a familiar shopping mall just a short distance from home.
As expected, once they arrived, Lin Yunzhu dove into shopping mode. She moved from store to store, trying on clothes while Zhou Feng followed behind, growing increasingly bored.
After accompanying her into the sixth clothing store, Zhou Feng finally couldn’t take it anymore.
"Mom, this is really boring for me. Can I walk around by myself for a while?"
Lin Yunzhu looked up from the mirror. "You want to explore alone? Okay, but don’t go too far. Call me when you’re tired." She took out her phone and transferred five hundred yuan to him. "Here, buy whatever you like. Stay safe." freёweɓnovel.com
Zhou Feng thanked her and wandered off. Because it was National Day, the square was packed with people. He avoided the crowded areas and eventually noticed a large sign pointing toward an antique market just 500 meters away. frёewebnoѵēl.com
Curious, he followed the direction and soon arrived at a lively outdoor antique market. The place had recently been renovated, with many proper shops lining the street and numerous roadside stalls filled with goods.
He browsed a few shops but quickly left — the prices were too high, and he had no interest in risking thousands of yuan on fragile items. Eventually, he started checking the roadside stalls.
Most items were obvious fakes — old coins, small trinkets, and even a replica axe from a popular game. While wandering, Zhou Feng suddenly felt a strange pull. His eyes began to tingle slightly, as if something was calling to him.
He stopped and looked around carefully. His gaze finally landed on a small, quiet stall run by a shady-looking middle-aged man who wasn’t loudly advertising like the others.
"Hello, how much are these items?" Zhou Feng asked, squatting down.
"Prices vary, young man. Some are a few hundred, some over a thousand. See anything you like?"
Zhou Feng scanned the goods and immediately noticed one item that made his eyes light up — a pure white jade pendant carved with a smiling Maitreya Buddha. It looked simple yet gave off a faint, warm aura.
"How much for these jade pendants?" he asked, pointing to a group.
"Most are 700 to 800 yuan each."
Zhou Feng picked up a few casually. "These look like they’ve been treated with glue. The color isn’t natural. I’m just buying for fun, not expecting anything special."
The seller smiled awkwardly. "Then tell me your price."
"Two hundred for this white Maitreya one."
"Deal!" The man agreed instantly and pointed to his QR code.
*Still overpaid a bit...* Zhou Feng thought with a sigh, but he paid anyway.
The moment the jade pendant touched his palm, a gentle warmth spread through his hand. Even more astonishing, he could feel his mental energy rapidly replenishing. At this rate, he would be able to use hypnosis again within minutes.
Time passed quickly. It was nearly noon. Surprisingly, despite walking for so long, Zhou Feng didn’t feel tired or sweaty.
Just as he was about to call his mother to decide on lunch, his phone rang. It was Lin Yunzhu.
"Mom, where are you? Should we eat lunch somewhere nearby?" he asked after picking up.
"Come home," she replied.
"Huh? Why go home when we’re already out?"
"I... Son, I need to pee. Let’s go home quickly. I’m almost there already. Hurry back."
Her voice carried a hint of urgency and embarrassment. But on the other end of the line, a wide, excited grin spread across Zhou Feng’s face.
