Chapter 54: Chapter 54- Kaen (Part 1)

Chapter 54- Kaen (Part 1)

Zen stared at the man. He was wearing an old hoodie that covered his face. So, Zen quickly grabbed it and pulled it, revealing his face. The man looked almost in his 40s with a messy appearance and a nasty scar running across his face. freewebnovёl.ƈom

"Let go, you bastard!!" He yelled as he tried to yank his arm away.

Zen, however, ignored his requests as he looked around him. All of a sudden, several individuals started appearing all around him. His eyes grew colder when he noticed the machetes and weapons they had tucked in their pockets and under their shirts.

’This was a trap.’ Zen frowned. ’They set a trap for us?’

"Why did you come here, pretty boy?"

"Do you have a death wish?"

"Let him go before you regret it."

Their words were threatening and laced with mockery. In total, 12 men surrounded him from every angle and left no route to escape.

"What is happening, Zen?"

"I have some trouble here, Cipha. I will take a minute. Keep going, I will be with you in a bit." He replied as he looked down. "So you want your guy?"

*Twist*

"AAAGH!" The man screamed in pain as Zen twisted his arm.

"Let go of him!!" The group stepped forward, ready to attack.

"Ok, ok, relax. Here..." Zen said as he released the man from his grip. However, as he tried to stand up and run. Suddenly, Zen sent a flying kick toward his face.

*BANG*

The man’s body flew to the side as he slammed into the wall, losing consciousness instantly. Then, before the rest could react, Zen dashed forward and launched himself into the air.

*BANG*

His knee slammed into one of the men, breaking all the teeth in his mouth as blood burst everywhere. Landing on the ground, Zen saw several react as they attacked. However, he quickly slid his foot, tackling all of them down before he dashed to the side.

"Die!!!" A man yelled as he swung his machete down, ready to hit Zen. However, with a simple move, Zen dodged the attack before he punched the man in the stomach.

"Blurgh!!" The man instantly coughed all the air out of his lungs as he flew back several feet. Then, Zen turned around and stared at the few left as he cracked his knuckles.

Their jaws dropped on the floor from shock. In less than a minute, Zen had completely beaten 7 of them without even trying.

’Who the hell is this guy?! Why is he so strong!!!’

’He’s a Hunter! He’s a goddamn Hunter!!!’

"So, are you guys going to attack or should I do it myself?"

"W-Wait!! Sir, please wait! We didn’t know... We didn’t know who you were!! Please forgive us, please!!"

"..." Zen stared at them coldly. "Interesting. I will spare you on one condition."

"... W-What?"

"There is a butcher shop in this area I’m looking for. Heard he sells pretty good meat. Where is it?"

"..."

"..."

Zen looked at them before he sighed and walked toward them. "Where... is it?" He asked coldly as he unleashed some of his aura, crushing them with his mere presence.

"..."

"Sigh, really now? Are we really going to do this?"

"..."

"Alright. You asked for it."

A few minutes later, Zen walked away from the area as he dusted his hands. "Hey, Cipha. Are you there?"

"Yeah, what did you do?"

"Dealt with a bunch of idiots. I have gotten a lead as to where the butcher shop is. Come meet me."

"I’m on my way."

With that, Zen walked down the street as he took a turn through a small alley. It was well hidden, so he wasn’t surprised he didn’t notice it. The path led him left and right deep into the area.

Eventually, when he emerged from it, he found himself in an open area surrounded by buildings from every angle. He could instantly tell that the only entrance to this place was that alley.

There were some old houses and buildings around him, and one particular one immediately stood out to him.

A very old sign hangs loosely from the door saying ’Dreams Butchery’.

’Hm.’ Zen squinted his eyes before he started walking toward it. "I think I found it. I’m going in."

"Be careful."

"Roger that."

The entire place was very quiet, eerily so. Zen could sense a few eyes staring at him from the windows, but he didn’t sense any threat, so he continued. Reaching the door, he noticed that it said ’open’. So, he pushed the door open and walked in.

The interior was dimly lit with the smell of fresh meat permeating the vicinity. The interior looked old but quite tidy and nice. Zen looked left and right for a second.

"Anybody here?" He said.

No reply.

So, he walked to the counter and tapped the bell. "Hello?"

"Hm? Coming right up! Hold on a sec!" A voice finally replied from the other part of the shop. Zen instantly recognized it and rolled his eyes.

’He still sounds as obnoxious as ever.’ He thought to himself.

A few seconds later, the door opened, and a young man emerged. The young man was instantly striking with his distinct blond hair and blue eyes. He had soft features that many would consider very handsome and a lean build with an average height. However, he had a distinct feature that would catch attention, and that was the scorpion tattoo on the side of his neck.

"Oh? Hi there, how can I help you today?"

"Hmm, I’m here to buy some meat, obviously. Do you have any chicken, perhaps?"

"Of course we do, sir." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"Great. Then I will get a full chicken."

"Coming right u-"

"And 5 minutes of your time, if you don’t mind," Zen added, cutting him off. That made Kaen stop and look back, his eyes flashing with a mysterious glint.

Then, he turned around and walked back into the shop. Zen waited for a bit as he roamed the shop, staring around silently. Eventually, Kaen came back with a bag in his hand.

"Here, that will be 9 Enes."

Zen paid them and took the bag before he leaned against the counter. "Say... Your name is Kaen, right?"

"Yeah... How did you know?"

"Well, you see." Zen looked over his shoulder and then at Kaen. "I’m Zen. I’ve heard things about you, and I have actually come here to meet you in person."

"Zen, huh?" Kaen asked as he pursed his lips. "And what do you want from me?"

"My partner and I are looking for people who could join us, and you have the skills required to help us, and of course, you will get a lot of things from it. I believe our goals align, and we want you with us."

"..." Kaen stared silently at Zen as the time ticked in the background. "You’re a Hunter. Which clan do you belong to?"

"No clan," Zen replied. "I work alone."

"No clan? Well, that’s rare to see. What is your goal?"

"It’s... A bit complicated. But, we are essentially looking to-"

At that moment, suddenly, Kaen’s phone rang, cutting Zen off. His eyes instantly flared as he picked it up and answered.

"Yes?"

"Kaen, get the hell out of there! Heavensoul is here for us!! They sent their daughter to get us! Run!!"

His eyes flared as he stared at Zen. The latter could hear the voice.

"Wait, Kaen. This isn’t what is happening. We aren’t here to harm-"

*Swish-

Kaen grabbed the nearest knife and threw it at Zen. The latter instantly sidestepped it before it could hit him. That was enough time for Kaen to turn around and run through the door.

"Shit!! Cipha, he ran away! Someone told him that we came!" Zen yelled as he slid over the counter and rushed after him. "He’s escaping from the back door!"

"I’m on him!"

Zen rushed through the butchery, avoiding the hanging meat as he saw Kaen open a door and leave quickly. When Zen emerged outside, he found himself back on the main street. Looking left and right, he saw him running down the street.

"Kaen, wait! I’m not here to harm you!"

"Shut the hell up, you rotten bastards! I won’t let you harm us!" He yelled back as he took a sharp turn.

’Great, the worst-case scenario happened!’ Zen clenched his teeth as he channeled his energy and dashed after him. ’I need to capture him. No other way.’
