Chapter 52: Chapter 52- Living The Dream
Chapter 52- Living The Dream
"We’re finally here," Zen said as he got out of the car and looked all around him. Their car stopped in the heart of the Port City, where it was the most active. The smell of sea salt filled Zen’s nose, mixed with the smell of the city.
Everyone around him was moving constantly, and the weather was quite pleasant. The sky was dark, with the moon hanging in the air, sending rays of light down to the city. Adjusting his shirt, Zen looked around him and then at Cipha.
"Are you sure we should stop here?" He asked.
"Best place to hide is in plain sight. We will keep it here until we need it." Cipha said. "We will get a hotel room and lie low for tonight and then move tomorrow. We can’t find Kaen at night."
"Fair enough."
"Let’s go."
The two left the parking lot and merged with the large crowds, walking through the city’s busiest districts. Zen and Cipha kept some distance between each other to make sure nobody would catch them. It was a small detail that kept them well hidden and blended with the crowds.
Zen’s eyes looked left and right, memorizing every face he saw. He knew that the moment they walked into that city, every face, every person, every eye could mean harm for them.
’While this city is technically under Heavensoul authority, it is completely infested with Kaen’s people. It is their city essentially, but they just can’t take control over it, or they might make the beast angry. They’re quite smart about it, but that also means they could come to realize that we are here and decide to be hostile, considering Cipha’s identities.’ He thought to himself.
Everything around him felt like it was moving in slow motion, and that every face was someone he could potentially recognize. The feeling was odd. It was something he had every time he walked into a massive crowd. His mind was constantly working, and his vision never stopped.
Zen had lived in a constant state of threat for years; he never had a peaceful moment being the man he is. Even at night, he could not even sleep completely and had to be ready for something to happen constantly.
It was not a pleasant life, but his wife made that life far more bearable for him. The two found strength in each other to keep going, and the day he lost her was the day everything snapped for him.
His eyes wandered to Cipha, who was walking ahead of him. His heart raced just seeing her moving at such a distance and disappearing into the crowd every few seconds. His desire to rush to her became strong, and he was contemplating doing that.
’Get your shit together, Zen. What are you even doing?’ He asked himself. He clenched his teeth and quickened his footsteps.
Eventually, the two stopped at the gates of a hotel on the main road. It was pretty active with people going in and out constantly. Just one look told Zen that it was quite luxurious and popular, and it felt like a perfect spot.
Cipha approached him quietly.
"Your name is Gin, I’m Agartha, we are a couple who came here to spend our vacation and to unwind from studying. Understood?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Got it, ma’am," Zen said with a smile. "We will pay cash to avoid giving them our real names."
"Well then. You’d better put on your best act as my girlfriend." Zen said as he tapped her shoulder.
Cipha didn’t reply for a second as she closed her eyes. Zen raised an eyebrow as he watched her confusedly. Then, she suddenly opened her and it was as if Cipha was a completely different person than before. Her cold and aloof air disappeared and was replaced with a jovial, loving smile as she looked at him happily.
"Let’s go inside, darling~ I’m so excited!!" She said with a happy tone before she grabbed his hand and rushed inside.
"..." Zen was completely taken aback by the shift. ’I forgot how much of an amazing actress she is.’
The shift was almost comical but very convincing, even though he flinched for a second. But, knowing that she was simply playing a role, he sucked in a deep breath and got into the role himself.
’I wouldn’t even call it a role, this is how I exactly treat her.’ He thought to himself as they reached the reception desk, holding hands.
"Hiii~"
"Oh, good evening." The receptionist replied, slightly taken aback by the strikingly good-looking couple that walked in.
"We would like to book two rooms, if you don’t mind," Cipha said with a happy smile.
"Do you have a reservation?" The woman asked.
"Oh?" Cipha made a sad expression. "No, we didn’t, unfortunately. Are there no empty rooms?"
"Let me check."
The woman then opened her list and looked around before she looked up. "We do have a royal suit still empty. Would you like to take that room? I must inform you that it is significantly more expensive than our normal rooms."
"Oh, it’s ok~ We will take that one. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Isn’t that right, honey?" Cipha asked Zen.
"Anything for you, my love."
The woman smiled, seeing the loving couple, before she nodded. ’They’re such a sweet couple. Ugh, I wish I had love like that in my life.’
"Understood. One Royal suit."
Cipha then paid for it with the cash she pulled from the ATM outside. The two then grabbed the key and walked away, hand in hand. The moment they took the elevator, Cipha’s expression faded back into normal.
"You’re almost too good at this. Are you sure you never did this before?" Zen asked with a teasing smile.
"You wish," Cipha replied. "In any case, it went well. We will have to do with one room."
"..."
’One room... I wasn’t mentally prepared for this. Fuck.’ He cursed under his breath. Just the idea of spending the night in the same room as Cipha was making his heart race. He knew nothing was going to happen, but just being that close to her again was something he had only dreamt of not that long ago.
Now, Zen was living that dream in real time.
