Chapter 37: You’re a kind person
Jonathan glanced at the two of us before asking,
"Ready?"
Maria smirked.
"I was born ready."
I simply nodded indifferently.
Jonathan raised his hand.
"Then... begin!"
The moment Jonathan’s voice fell, Maria charged at me at full speed. She raised her muscular arm, wrapped in a golden aura, and swung it toward me with enough force to crush me at any moment.
I frowned as I watched her fist.
Even though she had suppressed her mana to [F] Rank, just like me, the power behind her attack was astonishing. I could tell the power of Saintness was no joke.
Her bloodline skill had to be something extraordinary.
I easily sidestepped her punch before spinning in midair and bringing my heel crashing down onto her head, driving her into the ground with a thunderous impact that echoed throughout the yard.
I kept one hand behind my back while my foot remained pressed against her head. I sighed.
"Is that all you’ve got?"
It was a simple taunt, but it was enough to make the veins on Maria’s forehead bulge. She clenched her jaw in fury.
The students widened their eyes in shock. None of them had expected Maria to be overwhelmed so easily.
In reality, Maria wasn’t weak. She had simply let her guard down for a moment, and I had taken full advantage of that opening.
The next instant, her power erupted as she blasted me into the air.
A hint of amusement flickered across my eyes as I watched the wound on her forehead heal at a ridiculous speed. The aura erupted from her body, growing stronger and stronger.
"So that’s your bloodline skill. A kind of berserk ability?"
Maria chuckled as she wiped the blood from the corner of her lips.
"Something even better."
She charged at me like a rabid bull, unleashing a relentless barrage of punches and kicks. Every strike tore through the air with sharp, piercing whistles. Anyone watching could easily imagine what would happen if one of those blows landed – they would be torn to pieces.
This time, unlike before, I could genuinely feel the pressure and killing intent radiating from her.
However...
I spun through the air once more before bringing my heel crashing down onto her head again, driving her into the ground for the second time.
I had done it twice.
The chatter among the crowd spread everywhere, growing louder than before.
Maria’s face twisted with rage and disbelief. She let out a furious roar as a golden aura erupted from her body. She had become even stronger than before.
She continued to attack me like a rabid beast, but I simply responded with the same heel strike as before.
Three times.
Four times.
Five times.
Her face was pressed against the ground, her hair sprawled across the floor, while my foot rested firmly on her head.
"I-It can’t be... Why? Why?!" she roared in helplessness.
Jonathan forced a smile.
"Maria, did you forget what I told you before? I warned you that your weakness is relying too much on your bloodline skill."
He continued, but his next words cut even deeper.
"Henry hasn’t even used twenty percent of his strength yet. Do you understand what that means?"
’’You look like a baby with a gun in hand.’’
Maria’s twisted expression gradually faded into a hollow one. She slowly got to her feet with her head lowered.
It seemed she had finally accepted her defeat.
Jonathan smiled and nodded in satisfaction. He turned to me and said,
"Thank you for helping her realize her mistake. You’re a kind person for going easy on her."
He added,
"You’ll receive 300 credits from me."
Nearby, the other students could only frown in jealousy.
"The professor is obviously playing favorites with him. Damn it."
...
’’Wait a minute ... .Is there something wrong with Maria? I couldn’t feel her mana anymore.’’
A student frowned as they looked at Maria.
Jonathan’s expression instantly changed. He hurried over and tapped her on the shoulder.
But at that very moment, she collapsed to the ground, her body going limp.
A crack split open across the top of her skull, exposing part of her shattered brain as blood gushed out like a waterfall.
She was on the verge of death.
Jonathan’s face twisted with horror and disbelief. He immediately poured his mana into her body, desperately trying to keep her alive as he shouted at everyone around him.
"Call the medical professors! Right now! Hurry!"
In shock, the students quickly split up. Some rushed toward the medical wing, while others shouted for anyone nearby to come and help.
After a few minutes, finally, a medical professor came here and used their bloodline skills to save Maria.
He let out a relieved breath.
"She’s out of immediate danger, but she has suffered severe brain damage. She’ll need at least three months to recover, and she may even be left with some permanent aftereffects."
He frowned.
"Jonathan, you’re a senior professor. How could you let something like this happen? The Holy Church won’t let this go so easily."
Jonathan clenched his fists and gritted his teeth, struggling to suppress the murderous intent surging within him. Then he turned to me. His voice had turned ice-cold, carrying a hint of killing intent.
"What have you done to Maria’’
I could see the disappointment and shock in his eyes. It seemed I had shattered his view of me as a kind person. Instead, he now saw me as a devil, a murderer.
I kept my expression blank and answered calmly.
"What did I do? Everyone here saw exactly what happened, including you. You watched the entire fight from beginning to end. You were even the one who said I had gone easy on her. So why are you asking me now?"
Jonathan grimaced. Then he let out a helpless sigh. He knew I was telling the truth.
I added in a soulless voice,
"Actually, let’s just consider this a lesson for her. Not every lesson comes for free."
Then I walked over to my wife.
The students looked at me with fear in their eyes, as though they were looking at a demon rather than a human.
Even my wife was no exception.
I could see her eyes begin to water, turning red. Her hand trembled on the handle of the wheelchair. She seemed deeply saddened by what had happened to her friend.
"W-Why are you always like this? Can’t you just become a better person, a good husband?’’
