Chapter 70: Chapter 70 - Miserable Winter Mornings

It was an extremely cold winter morning.

Now what I probably haven’t told you yet is that I absolutely hate the winter, I mean I despised it.

On Earth I lived in a place that had pretty mild winters compared to other places on Earth. We also had summer rainfall, which made me love summers even more, since I love the rain.

What this means is that I was so very miserable at that time, yet there were some very big bonuses to these cold times.

And that was the two beauties who were hugging me from each side under the sheets, trying to stay as warm as possible.

I woke up every morning thanking whoever was out there for the blessings in my life.

For blessing me with the charm and charisma to be able to pull to stunners like them.

For a man who had never experienced love on Earth, waking up with two women he loved, and was loved by, in his arms each morning surely must have been some sort of karma right?

Anyway, I woke up that morning with Cat and Julia clinging to me on either side.

The thick sheets we had covering us tried its best to keep out the cold, but it was not completely successful. My nose felt like it was a block of ice, and my breath was misting in front of me with every exhale.

Cat and Julia didn’t seem to have that problem though, but that was only because the only part of them that was sticking out from underneath the sheets were the top of their heads.

I still don’t know how they do that, I feel like someone is trying to suffocate me as soon as I cover my head under the sheets.

At least the rest of my body was nice and toasty, how could it not be when it was being toasted from two sides like that.

Anyway, enough talk of our very comfortable sleeping arrangements. freewёbnoνel.com

"Are you two awake?" I whispered down at them, giving each of their waists a slight squeeze.

"Hmm-mhm" Both of their muffled replies came from beneath the sheets.

I couldn’t help but smile at their refusal to stick their heads out from under the sheets.

"I have to tell you something." I said, unconsciously pulling them even closer to me.

"What?" Julia asked, still neither of them came out from under the sheets.

This was the moment I had to tell them that I was going on a little journey, and that I wasn’t going to take either of them with me.

Now as you can imagine, I needed to approach this situation quite delicately.

I had to make them believe that they couldn’t leave Lofie at all at that time, or else all of my businesses would fall flat, which meant that I absolutely had to go on this trip alone.

"Before that... how’s your shop’s merger with the bathhouse going, Cat?" I asked.

"We’re getting there," Cat answered, still from underneath the covers. "The contractors are almost done with the shopfront, and John and I have also already negotiated some packages where we could include some soaps with certain entrance fees."

"That’s good," I nodded. "And what about the training and organisation of the guards?"

"Everything is going exactly according to plan." This time it was Julia who answered.

Her answer caused a slight wrinkle in my plans though, because if everything there was going as well as she said, it meant that there was nothing that kept her in Lofie so I could go on my little trip alone.

For the first time I met the man, I was genuinely cursing Erick’s efficiency.

"Mmm," I mumbled.

For a few moments I was completely stumped, how in the hell was I going to pull this off.

Now some of you might be thinking that I should’ve just told them that I was going on a trip, and that they should stay in the village, and that was that.

And all I can answer to that is...

Do you want me dead?

Sure I could probably just slip away for a couple of days without telling them anything.

Once again, death awaits me at the end of that option.

Finally after a few moments of thought an idea struck me, one so brilliant that I immediately sat up, which unfortunately meant that the warm and cozy covers we had until then were shifted from us.

The cold that hit my upper body at that moment was bone chilling, bone chilling enough that not even the view on either side of me could warm my blood again.

"I really need to find a way to introduce central heating to this world." I mumbled as I got out of bed, reaching into my storage for a new shirt and jacket.

Julia and Cat squealed, immediately pulling the covers back up to under their chins, attempting to get the heat they had so suddenly lost back.

"Where are you going?" Cat asked.

I don’t think you guys can understand how world shatteringly cute they looked at that moment, the covers pulled up to just under their eyes, leaving only those two beautiful pairs of eyes peeking up at me.

"I have to go and see Erick," I said with a smile. "You two can stay in bed for a while longer."

"That’s the plan," Julia answered, disappearing under the covers completely again.

I couldn’t help but laugh as I walked over to the bed, pulled back the covers just enough to give each of them a kiss.

A kiss they accepted with beaming smiles, before pulling the covers over their heads again just as quickly.

I made my way out of the inn, and down the road to the barracks with a smile on my face, even though it felt like I was freezing to death as I walked.

The irony of the situation was that apparently this wasn’t even the coldest it would become, according to the villagers this was only the lead up. They all kept telling me that I should feel it when the first snow fell.

At that point I was seriously reconsidering my decision to live there, but unfortunately I had already invested quite a bit there, and all of my plans at that point revolved around the development of Lofie village.

I do however wish that someone had told me about this very large drawback before I made that decision though.

Finally after a few minutes’ walk I came to the front door of the barracks.

A massive wooden building that seemed to be dominating the entire village, it was so large compared to the other buildings in the village as a matter of fact that it could be seen from anywhere in the village, even from outside the walls.

I made my way through the building, bidding a good morning to John’s wife, who was already busy preparing breakfast for the men. We chatted for a few moments, before I continued to make my way up to Erick’s room.

I knocked twice on the door, and waited for Erick to open it.

A sly smile tugged at my lips when I heard two voices from inside, one clearly being a female voice.

After a few moments Erick opened the door.

He stood in front of me with far too few layers of clothes in my opinion, honestly did these people not know it was pissing cold?

"Daniel?" Erick asked, he seemed quite confused about my presence at his door.

Maybe it was more of an irritation for disturbing him from the... warmth of his bed.

"Good morning," I said, the smile on my face widening a bit. "Did you have a good rest?"

"Ahem," Erick started, his eyes darting back into the room as he stepped out and closed the door behind him. "What can I do for you?"

"Erick, you dog you," I said, slapping him on the back. "It seems you’re almost as charming as me."

Erick only looked down at me with a deadpan expression, I mean sure I may have interrupted his fun, but the man could’ve at least seemed a bit more enthused that his charm was compared to mine.

"Fine," I sighed. "I need your help."

"How can I help you?" He asked.

"I need you to help me convince Cat and Julia not to go with me on a trip." I answered.

"Do you want to kill me?" Erick asked, stepping back from me like I had the plague.

"Oh come on, they won’t kill you." I said, reaching out to pat his shoulder in comfort, but he dodged out of the way of my every touch.

"I’m sorry Daniel, but you definitely don’t pay me enough to take those chances." Erick said. "Maybe there are a few beasts I could go and kill instead?"

Seriously, the man felt it would be safer for him to go hunting beasts than it would have been for him to help me convince my wives that they had to stay behind while I went on a trip.

Overreacting much?
