Chapter 2729: Chapter 950: You’re Not Clean Anymore
Zheng Qing ultimately failed to catch up with Jiang Yu.
When he rushed to the base of the Astronomical Tower, a small breeze blew in his face, causing him to lose sight. This was rare during the warm late spring season. The wind was small and swift, paired with the suddenly overcast weather, giving an immediate sense of impending rain.
White willow catkins gathered by the roadside, forming winding white threads. Students welcomed the thread with laughter and chatter as they walked toward the canteen.
Zheng Qing sighed and turned back to the Astronomical Tower.
Others were already out of class, but he still had a session of second-stage battle formations theory awaiting him in another time-space. Compared to tracking the witch, his current priority was finding an empty room for Time Conversion.
Moreover, unsurprisingly, Jiang Yu might have also gone to another time-space—much like their current relationship, which was close yet untouchable.
The rest of Tuesday passed.
From lunch to two afternoon classes.
Like the past twenty-four hours, Zheng Qing never found an opportunity to apologize.
This made him suspect that traditional magic might have a ’Loach Curse’ that made people slippery; otherwise, why did Jiang Yu always manage to dodge his every attempt to greet?
Until Tuesday afternoon after classes, he had to temporarily halt his plan to continue seeking out Jiang Yu because, as per yesterday’s arrangement, it was time for him to go to Greenhill Mansion for dinner.
Compared with other districts in Beta Town.
Most residents belonged to clans and nobility, so Beta Town’s West District had always been quieter. Even if the Beta Town Pedestrian Street was now bustling, as Zheng Qing walked through the West District, there were hardly any pedestrians.
The Greenhill Mansion was located at Courtyard 54 in the West District.
In front of the door, the creek flowed clear and murmuring. Several Flower Sprites wore skirts of fresh petals sewn together and sat in rows on the wet Pebbles by the bank, giggling as they washed their feet. Seeing the Warlock in a Red robe, they did not seem afraid; instead, they bravely waved at him as if inviting him to wash feet together.
"Thanks, but no need."
The young man muttered, glanced at the wooden fence behind the creek, and unexpectedly found the mansion’s door ajar, leaving a door gap that just about allowed a person to pass through sideways.
He hesitated for a few seconds, touched the Haha Beads on his wrist, and ultimately crossed the creek and entered the mansion without announcing himself, drawing out his Charm Gun.
Behind the fence was a tranquil little garden, where hundreds of flowers in varied hues competed for attention. Some Fox Maids were pruning leaves, some Grass Spirits were collecting dew, and from faraway windows came the giggling voices of a Little Fox and Great Elf.
Zheng Qing quietly exhaled a breath and laughed self-deprecatingly, putting away the Charm Gun.
Walking along the Pebbles-paved path for a few steps, his gaze suddenly sharpened, as he unexpectedly noticed a rare twin-stemmed Four-Leaf Clover beside the path, reminding him of the Amber Jiang Yu tossed to Su Ya the day before.
The Four-Leaf Clover seemed like a wonderful gift, especially considering this one was twin-stemmed. The Warlock couldn’t help but be intrigued and squatted down to examine that fragile little plant closely.
Not far away, Su Man was hastily stepping toward him.
"Miss is waiting for you in the study, Master Zheng Qing!"
After a meticulous greeting, the Head Maid immediately noticed the plant near the Warlock and instinctively warned, "Hey! Don’t touch that Four-Leaf Clover, Su Ya previously..."
Poof!
The leaf that Zheng Qing touched suddenly ballooned and then ruptured, spraying out a liquid with a strong pungent smell, splattering him with sticky stuff.
"...placed a Protective Spell on her favored plants." The belated warning from the Head Maid reached Zheng Qing, who swore under his breath and frantically stood up.
From the window, five furry heads quickly poked out and then retreated almost simultaneously.
Zheng Qing faintly heard soft cheers—because the scent from the liquid was too strong, he was unsure if the cheers were welcoming from the Great Elves or Schadenfreude from Su Ya or Poseidon.
"Oh, sorry, but you don’t need to worry—"
The Head Maid gave a stern look at the window—causing those five furry heads to retreat simultaneously—and then apologetically turned to Zheng Qing, taking down the Law book hanging from her waist: "—Thinly stain, thinly cleanse my clothes!"
A gentle fragrant wind swept over.
Zheng Qing’s robe instantly became dry and clean again.
"It’s alright."
Zheng Qing waved his hand, forced a smile, "—The study, right? I can go by myself. Just supervise Su Ya in cleaning the floors. By the way, help check if Poseidon has finished his homework today."
The Head Maid smiled appropriately, bowed slightly, and then retreated on her own.
Zheng Qing glanced again at the little plant and finally gave up on the idea of picking it.
When he arrived in the study.
Su Shijun stood by the window, side-facing him, arms crossed, looking pensive. She wore a backless spaghetti-strapped long elegant wine-red dress, with a lifelike chiffon butterfly resting at her waist, flapping its wings softly with the witch’s breathing. The orange-red sunlight on the witch’s snow-white skin complemented her dress’s color, giving the impression of having taken a large sip of wine.
Zheng Qing unconsciously swallowed, as Nikita’s image flitted across his mind from that night.
That night, the Female Demon seemed to wear a red dress too.
Noticing the young man’s entrance, Su Shijun turned her head and was about to speak when she suddenly frowned, giving him a once-over.
"You’re not clean anymore."
The first words from the witch startled Zheng Qing,
For a moment, Zheng Qing nearly believed Su Shijun had become Old Yao, easily spying on certain fleeting images in his mind. But immediately, he realized he was now covered with layers of soul-protective Magic; even Old Yao couldn’t easily spy on some of his secret thoughts.
So the young man resisted the urge to flee, striving to show an amused expression:
"What?"
"Did you touch any dirty thing in the past two days?" the witch countered.
Zheng Qing instantly recalled the recent encounter in the little garden: "Oh, in your garden, a Four-Leaf Clover, I accidentally touched it, Su Man said Su Ya cast some kind of Protective Spell on it..."
The master of the Greenhill Mansion rolled a beautiful eye.
"Su Ya’s trick isn’t worthy of the term ’dirty thing,’" she interrupted the young man’s rambling explanation with a rebuff, raising her hand to release a Revealing Spell: "—Never say it’s not visible, greet it without hesitation!"
A flash of white light.
Zheng Qing suddenly felt a cool breeze by his ear.
He looked back, just in time to see a pair of dark eyes staring at him expectantly, belonging to a completely transparent infant.
The young man’s skin crawled.
