Chapter 12: Chapter 12

Fleur moved quickly through the sleek halls of her design firm, the sharp click of her heels echoing across the polished marble floors. Behind her, Lea struggled to keep pace while clutching a tablet and notepad against her chest.

"Ma’am," Lea said breathlessly, "Miss Channing is demanding an appointment again."

Fleur closed her eyes briefly in frustration.

Of course she was. Ever since the tabloids exploded with news of Christian Wayne’s engagement to Carrie Channing, the supermodel had become relentless in pursuing Fleur’s services.

The irony almost made Fleur laugh bitterly.

Years ago, Christian had wanted Odette gone from his life so badly that she had convinced herself he would finally be happy once she disappeared.

And now his fiancée wanted the famous Fleur Swann to decorate their luxury apartment in Paris.

Fate truly had a twisted sense of humor.

Carrie had apparently fallen in love with Fleur’s designs after Christian purchased her an extravagant penthouse overlooking the Seine. Since then, she had become obsessed with hiring Fleur personally rather than accepting one of the company’s elite senior designers.

But Fleur knew better.

Working for Christian’s future wife would be dangerously reckless.

Even though almost nobody from Christian’s world had ever truly seen Odette Wayne—because Christian had hidden his Luna from public life—Fleur still feared exposure.

One wrong glance.

One familiar scent.

One slip...

And everything she had built for herself and her children could collapse overnight.

"Tell her we’re fully booked for the next two years," Fleur said briskly as she headed toward the elevators.

Lea winced awkwardly. "I already did."

Fleur stopped walking. "And?"

Lea swallowed nervously. "She refused to accept it."

Fleur muttered a curse beneath her breath.

"Actually..." Lea continued carefully, "security just informed me she’s already inside the building and heading this way with Alpha Wayne."

Fleur’s blood ran cold.

Christian was here.

The name alone sent old instincts roaring awake beneath her carefully controlled exterior.

Her wolf stirred uneasily inside her chest after years of silence.

Run.

The instinct hit her immediately.

"Tell them I’m not here," Fleur ordered quickly, resuming her pace. "No—tell them I left Paris."

Lea blinked.

"Ma’am—"

"Actually, say I’m out of the country indefinitely."

Fleur kept speaking rapidly as they crossed the busy office floor. Employees rushed around them carrying samples, blueprints, fabric books, and design mockups. The entire company buzzed with activity, but Fleur barely noticed any of it now.

Panic clouded her thoughts. She was so focused on escaping that she never realized the elevator doors had already opened.

At the exact same moment, Christian Wayne stepped out.

The world seemed to freeze.

Tall. Powerful. Dressed entirely in black.

The Alpha King of the Bloo Moon Pack radiated dominance so intensely that the entire lobby instinctively fell silent around him. His bodyguards flanked him like shadows while Carrie clung possessively to his arm.

Six years had changed him. Christian looked even colder now. The darkness inside him no longer hid beneath charm—it openly lived in his eyes.

Every person nearby instinctively lowered their gaze before the overwhelming pressure of his Alpha aura.

Meanwhile, Fleur approached from the opposite direction, her attention still fixed over her shoulder as she spoke hurriedly to Lea.

Their paths crossed.

He was so close.

Only a few employees separated them. And yet neither saw the other clearly.

Fleur slipped into the elevator just as the doors began closing again.

Then, one of Christian’s bodyguards shifted slightly. For the briefest second, Fleur caught sight of Christian’s broad back.

Her breath caught violently. Something inside her twisted painfully.

That familiar presence. That scent. Morning dew and cedarwood.

Her mate.

The elevator doors began sliding shut. At that exact moment, Christian suddenly turned his head sharply.

His wolf surged violently beneath his skin.

There.

A scent.

Familiar.

Impossible.

But the doors closed before he could see anything except cold steel. freewebnoveℓ.com

Christian stood motionless. A strange restlessness spread through his chest instantly.

His wolf paced dangerously inside him.

Find her.

The instinctive command hit him so hard that his jaw clenched. Slowly, his icy blue gaze swept across the office lobby, searching for something he couldn’t explain.

But there was nothing.

Only employees nervously avoiding eye contact.

Carrie tightened her grip around his arm. Christian ignored her completely and turned toward the receptionist’s desk.

The terrified young woman nearly stopped breathing when his attention landed on her. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Sir..." she stammered nervously, "Miss Swann is currently out of the country. We don’t know when she’ll return."

Christian’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

Even after all these years, his mere presence could reduce people to trembling wrecks.

Power rolled off him naturally. Predatory. Deadly.

Carrie scoffed dramatically beside him. "That’s ridiculous. One of my friends saw her at an event recently."

The receptionist visibly panicked.

"She... she may have attended a business event briefly, ma’am, but we weren’t informed directly."

Christian leaned slightly against the desk, his voice dropping low enough to send chills through everyone nearby.

"Listen carefully."

The entire room went silent.

"No one refuses Christian Wayne."

Fear flooded the receptionist’s scent instantly.

"If your boss wishes to continue insulting me," he continued coldly, "then she should understand there are consequences for provoking the Alpha King."

The receptionist swallowed hard and nodded shakily.

Christian straightened. "Let’s go, Carrie."

"But Christian—"

One sharp glance from him silenced her immediately. Carrie hid her irritation behind a pout.

She had deliberately dragged Christian here, hoping he would intimidate Fleur into obedience.

Instead, he seemed distracted and restless. And that unsettled her.

As they walked back toward the elevators, unease continued clawing at Christian’s chest.

Ever since meeting those strange twins at the mall, his wolf had refused to calm down.

Especially that boy... Gabriel’s resemblance to him had been almost unbearable.

Not just physically, but instinctively too.

The child had challenged him like a born Alpha pup protecting his pack.

Christian had tried dismissing it as coincidence. But now... Something about this office felt wrong. Like invisible threads were tightening around him, pulling him toward answers he couldn’t yet see.

He paused briefly and glanced around the office one final time.

Nothing. No familiar scent remained. No sign of the strange pull disturbing his wolf.

Finally, Christian forced himself to look away.

I’m exhausted. That must be it.

Years of grief and sleepless nights were beginning to affect him.

Since Odette’s disappearance, work had become the only thing holding him together. Endless meetings, pack business, mafia negotiations, bloodshed—anything to silence the emptiness inside him.

Because without distractions... Christian feared he would finally break beneath the weight of losing his mate.
